Kuroi_Ame
For those who have a tablet..Wacom Intuos, specifically, or Wacom in general...Are they really worth the high price? The one I'm looking at to buy is the Wacom Intuos 4x5. I make small strokes and have quite a small moniter, so I'm not worried much about the size. But is the tablet itself good quality or is it made from cheap material? Does the surface scratch easy, making strokes look distorted? And, is there much drag to it? Wacom says there isn't, but then what wouldn't they say to make their product sell? For those of you who want to answer, but don't want to read a lot...heres' a shortened version -Are Wacom tablets good quality? -Does the surface scratch easily? -Is there a whole lot of drag to it? -Does size really matter to it? -Kuroi do u wow?Cassiius|Level 70 Night Elf Preist|RunetotemSambora|Level 37 Tauren Shaman|BurningLegion
princessa9
I prefer the smaller ones..more portable if you have a laptop. Um yeah they scratch easily...but you're suppose to replace the cover or something someday.. "drag" would depend on your computer speed not the wacom I dunno why you'd need a tablet. Mouses still work fine. But if you have the extra cash..why not XD [sig inserted here....in few days]
Kuroi_Ame
Do you know how much the covers cost? Or where I can find out? Mouses don't really like me that much, I'm thinking a tablet would feel more natural than a mouse. Thanks for clearing up the drag issue. -Kuroi do u wow?Cassiius|Level 70 Night Elf Preist|RunetotemSambora|Level 37 Tauren Shaman|BurningLegion
Lovelydude
Well, I use mine alot, but if you not using a notebook why bother? A mouse will suffice on most occasions. No need to get one unless you don't have a scanner. I picked mine up for about $49 Australian, so if you can find a cheap one, go for it. If you are very serious about your art you should get one, they are very handy.
Kuroi_Ame
I do plan to go somewhere with my art, and pixeling is just a start for me. I have a scanner, but I don't really like using it. If your saying a tablet will help with my art, I am definately getting one. Thanks for the help. -Kuroi do u wow?Cassiius|Level 70 Night Elf Preist|RunetotemSambora|Level 37 Tauren Shaman|BurningLegion
APERSON
I wouldn't suggest a tablet for pixel art, but if you get into brushing or other more "flowing" forms of art I would highly suggest it for that. Why should we buy postage stamps when we can make our own?aperson being
axeraider70
-Are Wacom tablets good quality? Yes. Mac or PC, it works on both and very reliable. Every point on the tablet matches a point on the computer -Does the surface scratch easily? Not for me, though im sure everybody has different habits. -Is there a whole lot of drag to it? Its just a usb tablet, some free software, and an installation disk. not very bulky, i put it in my lap all the time and draw. -Does size really matter to it? Depending on the size of it will be how many points on the computer will account for one point on the tablet. If your tablet is really small, the tablet pen will move faster and you wont be able to be so meticulous about your art. axeraider70.deviantART.com

venomai
Firstly, if you don't plan on digitally painting/drawing, a tablet is a rip-off. But if you do wish to paint/draw, a tablet is a must. I dunno why you'd need a tablet. Mouses still work fine. But if you have the extra cash..why not XD Heh, easy to say for cell-shading, pixeling, and vectoring, but if you ever start to paint digitally you'll really get nowhere with a mouse. Next, the Intuos is a great choice, and the 4x5 is imo the best. I'm currently using a Intuos3 6x8, and before that I used a very old Graphire1. Buying a tablet won't improve your skill, that has to be achieved through practice. But a tablet will make things a lot easier to work with, and much more natural, which will help you when you practice. Within days of digital painting with a tablet your mouse will become obsolete and completley useless. :) -Are Wacom tablets good quality? Yes, probably one of the best companies for Tablets. -Does the surface scratch easily? Rarely on my Intuos, if ever. I haven't noticed a single scratch yet, and I don't think there will be any for a long time. The nibs to the pens can sometimes get sharp if you don't take care of them properly, but the Intuos should come with extra nibs. My old tablet (Graphire 1) scratched a bit, but even with the scratches it was hard to notice any difference (unless it was a huge scratch). I'm sure they've fixed the Graphires to make them more scratch-resistant. Chances are you won't ever need to spend any money replacing your covers, unless you hack at them with your pen or something. -Is there a whole lot of drag to it? Do you mean the pen snagging or slowing down when you draw? No, none of that. My intuos glides smoothly and it's very comfortable. The old graphire wasn't as nice, but as I've said, I think they've improved the Graphires since then. -Does size really matter to it? To tell you the truth, no. You can get away with smaller sizes and you'll hardly notice a difference. The only real difference is a slight speed change, which just takes a bit of getting used to. xxxShade
1.Yes, they are great quality. 2.Well, my surface hasn't scratched yet and I've been using mine of and on for 3 years :? 3.Not too much. 4.I prefer smaller ones, I don't like having a huge one because when you move your curser it's not equivelent to the screen. I wouldn't reccomend if your not going to take time to get used to it or your just going to stick with pixeling.

So far, no bad comments and everyone pretty much agrees with each other on the matter. I guess it's time to lock this thread, I got my question answered.
