normalkills
the attack and defense skills... are they simply for being able to use better weapons and armor, or do they effect your actual fighting ability. like does the attack skill make it easier for you to hit someone the higher it is, and does the defense skill make it harder for someone to hit you. im not talking about the amount of damage you deal or take, just the chance to not hit a zero or the chance to be hit by a zero. do i make sense? #-o turn my headphones up! you herd! `( ;])
Noctis
They affect actual combat. Higher atk means more accuracy in melee combat. Higher def means you're less likely to get hit.
CheapMark
yes. Attack, the higher it is the more you will hit above 0 (according to your strength level). Defence, unlike popular belief, does not lower the amount of damage that someone can hit you. It just lowers the amount of time they actually hit you. Hope that helps. normalkills
oh one more question actualy... besides the xp distribution, does using an att, arg, or def style attack effect ur fight? #-o turn my headphones up! you herd! `( ;])
kwimbob
oh one more question actualy... besides the xp distribution, does using an att, arg, or def style attack effect ur fight? #-o Yes it does. Basically: Controlled adds 1 level to your attack, strength, and defence levels while fighting. Accurate adds 3 levels to your natural attack level while fighting. Aggressive adds 3 levels to your natural attack level while fighting. Defensive adds 3 levels to your natural defence level while fighting. In RSClassic they used to spell that out and wrote that each of them did that next to the styles. This also explains how aggressive style can actually add one to your max hit. Combat 116+; Total 1900+; All Hard Tasks; (Nearly) All quest points; (Nearly) All skills 60+; An aquatic moose ninja.Currently: Using 63 hunter to get some of those "Chins", then I'm going to range stuff down. Interruptions of agility when I feel like it, as well. And lucky enough to get 4 Dragon and 6 Barrow Drops.[hide]Kwimbob now looks exactly like me in real life except for hair color. Yes, this means I look exactly like the protagonist of that certain anime that my second character, Faye_V is also named after. Yes, I bought a jacket that also looks like his. No in real life I don't have a slain bear to sling over my shoulders. Yes, I'm that skinny even if I no-life it for years in basements. No, I can't shoot a gun. Yes, I can win any other strategic video game you have never played - because I probably have, ahahaha. And yes, I also have brown eyes, yet one of my eyes looks different from the other. And yes, I'm completely oblivious to the [real] world around me as I constantly engineer new solutions to daily problems in my head. When I get hungry, all that isn't food can wait. When I'm sleepy - nothing is of any priority in front of sleep. But at any other time, I never slow down. Never give up. Never Surrender. Makes for a good life.[hide]YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT.- See You, Space Cowboy.[/hide][/hide]

Doomster
Raising the levels has a small effect, but the bonuses for the weapon and armour are typically larger than the level required to use them. eg. A defence level 20 in full Mithril has a higher melee defence than a level 40 in character clothing only, though the the defen level 40 unassisted is better against mage. All levels count, yours and the bonus/penalty for any equipment you wear/wield.
