its pretty basic but i think this is a nice little ball of shading.

 

 

 

anyway, i was just wondering which one looks better, outlined or unoutlined?

outlined. However there's a pretty major mistake in the bottom left zone where the shading goes with a rectangular shape :shock:

try making the base of the head a little bigger, make it cover the wood, not stick into it

 

 

 

and make the handle about 30-60% smaller

nah i think it's pretty ok now. Maybe fix the blade a bit.

 

 

 

Making the handle smaller will simply turn the shading into a pointless colorfill.

when i do my pictures, i always have a invisible sun somewhere, and then i just do the light off that, so if the sides close to the sun, there wont be alot of shading, but on the otherside, there well be.
