Oh, and you also get one of the most bloated IM clients known to man! It does everything mediocre and nothing well ;)

Annoying silly persons kept adding me over ICQ and their message is always the same...

"Hey, want to look at my picture gallery? *insert website link here* "

I think a dozen people have added me, and gave me that same message so I just deleted ICQ... :?

I think those are the annoying advertsing people, once in a while I'll get an IM(from people not on my list) that reads something along the line of "hey friend, can't talk now but check out my webcam[link]"

I think they use mIRC or IRC now.. I don't know much about those, but I here people talk about them.

Well since you said you dont know much about them, I figured i'd help you out here.

IRC is not new, the oldest network has been around since 1988.

IRC is an form of communication, where people connect to an network. An network can be a sole server, or a group of servers linked together. Once connected, you join an channel, which is an room where users can go to to talk to one another, usually about the topic of the peticular room. Tip.it has an room, which you can get information about connecting to at the top of every page on this forum by clicking the "official Tip.it Chat" link.

mIRC is an program connect to such networks. It is, by far, the most popular program of its kind available. Think of it like Internet Explorer in regards to web browsing, it isn't the web, it allows you to browse the web. However, there are alternatives to it that'll do the same thing.

For more information, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRC

i can either remember a nickname "Mercifull" login name or a 16 digit unique number. >.<

While I understand your trying to say people can remember names easier than numbers, I simply must point out 16 digit is abit of an exaggeration.

I registered sometime in 2000, and I got an 8 digit number, although it was very close to reaching 9 digits at the time.

Nowadays, I think they are still into the 9 digits.

If by revolutionary you mean a pain in the butt outdated program, then yes.

"Revolutionary" as in, it was the first instant messaging program on the market. It came out in in 1996. AIM came out in 1997. MSN and Yahoo I believe both came out in mid 1999.

Its been one of the most downloaded and used programs on the internet in the past. Along with the likes of Winamp, and Napster.

AOL owns the patent in the US for instant messaging, which it was granted late into 2002 because it purchased ICQ in mid 1998.

For more information on that, or ICQ in general, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICQ

Um can someone explain where to get ICQ please? I have been wondering for a very long time what that was ... ?
