I read his article, big deal people play differently. That doesnt mean he should get praised for saying people play mmorpgs differently. Thats like saying "Hey that car over there is blue!" and then someone gives you a pat on the back and says good job buddy!

I just cleaned up the article a bit, fixing afew spelling and grammar errors I had noticed in it, as well as slightly rewording afew small parts for clarity.

I think you are overlooking one of the main points of the article. Its not just that people "play differently", but also pointing out that people should show respect for the ways others choose to play.

that was better then the tip it times in my opinion. really i mean merchanting is not scamming. some people do not like to join clans. some people would prefer to chill with friends on top of the varrock bar. some people hate doing quest others hate the combat so they would rather do skills and they get flamed.

Or those whom take advantage of new releases, such as construction, and sell supplies and equipment for many times more than they would be worth once things had settled down. Would either of these be considered scamming?

 

Actually, yes. Price gouging, in the manner you're speaking of, is illegal in rl for a long time, and corporations can be shut down (banned) if they're caught doing it. If someone took advantage of a clueless foreigner in real life by overcharging them on something, would that be right? No, therefore it shouldn't be right in merchanting, either. When someone (or a group of someones) takes advantage of an easy market (for example, overcharging building supplies after a disaster or gouging prices on a brand-new product), is that ethical? No, and the same should hold true in RS. The reason it doesn't is because RS doesn't (or at least shouldn't) significantly affect people's lives beyond the LogOut button, but it doesn't change the fact that any merchant who charges a newbie 120gp for a cooked chicken, or who took advantage of construction by hoarding planks and selling them at anything more than 25gp are, in fact, the scum of the game and were cheating their trusting fellows.

 

While I do understand the point you were trying to make in the original post, the fact is, the majority of merchants are a bunch of lying scamming jerks. There are some good, honest merchants who aren't in it for a fast buck, but they're, sadly, a dying breed.
