July 26, 200619 yr Not sure how many of you will no about this... Most of us Americans should though... Anyway, Andrea Yates was accused of drowing 5 of her own children. When taken to court she pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. She claimed that she had killed her children to save them from the devil and that if they lived, they would've grown to be criminals. She went to court and when she got sentenced to life in prison, she appealed the ruling and went to court again. Today, the jurors reached a verdict. Andrea Yates was found not-guilty by reason of insanity... Click for full story Anyway, do any of you have thoughts on this event?
July 26, 200619 yr I think it's bull she got off, she killed five children and came up with a crap story she thought the devil was inside her so she was saving them? Bull. She probably couldn't stand takign care of all the children so she killed them and said she was insane to get off. Rose
July 26, 200619 yr She drowned 5 children to save them from creatures who hold no power over them. Sounds insane to me. Next case! The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!
July 26, 200619 yr The irony is, she'll be going straight to Hell herself by doing such a thing. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
July 26, 200619 yr I hate when they're insane or have a mentally problem and get away with it. "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
July 26, 200619 yr Over here at least, 'not guilty by reason of insanity' doesn't mean you get away with it - it means you can get sent to a secure mental institution indefinitely. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

July 26, 200619 yr I heard it on the news today. The woman is clearly insane, but I think she should be killed herself for what she did.

July 27, 200619 yr Author Over here at least, 'not guilty by reason of insanity' doesn't mean you get away with it - it means you can get sent to a secure mental institution indefinitely. It's like that over here. She'll be sent to a mental institution but she won't be there indefinitely. She will periodically be judged by a panel to see if she can be released which is stupid. I don't want a woman who drowned her own kids walking around in the public. Whether she is or isn't insane, she still killed 5 of her own children....
July 27, 200619 yr Yea, in the USA, she'll be sent to a mental instituion until she is judged sane...Which could be anywhere from months to years. She probably didn't want to take care of the little brats, as said before, so she drowned them...She's faking it, in that case, and will be released soon enough. The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!
July 27, 200619 yr Interesting. One thing is bugging me though. If this woman really has a severe postpartum depression with psychotic symptoms, such an illness is not born overnight. She's sure to have been acting 'crazy' even before she drowned her kids. There are stages even to mental illnesses and one doesn't lose their mental faculties and sense of right/wrong just like that. So why on earth didn't she seek help before the illness progressed so far? For this thing alone, and she is to blame. Also, her husband or the rest of the family and friends who probably witnessed her strange behaviour even before she did the crime, just stood back and let this insane person in charge of the children? As for the verdict, hah, that's some justice being done. It reminds me of that case when a woman killed some people randomly during 'that time of the month' and was found not guilty because doctors found her to be suffering from a bad case of PMS. "Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."
July 27, 200619 yr such an illness is not born overnight. It is in cases where you need to use it as an excuse. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.
July 27, 200619 yr Anyone that commits murder could be considered insane. There is no reason people should be relieved of the charges of murder by pleading insanity.
