F2p mage leveling

I am currently f2p, but planning a shift to p2p in the next 2-3 months. I would like to get some skills up that I have not worked on very much before I start paying. One of these is Magic, which is currently 29. I have runecrafting of 24 (maybe 25, not quite sure, too lazy to check). I am a good enough miner (69, 70 after tonight) and have a rune pik, of course, so I can mine my own ess. I also have a mind and air tiara, and could make some other types.

So the questions are:

1) What spell/spells should I use to level up my magic quickly and inexpensively?

2) What should I be killing with these spell and where (remeber, f2p)?

3) What staff should I wield (I currently have a staff of fire)?

thanks

air or lava staff.... make ur own runes (cheap but not always fast)

for checkin levelin rates etc check the magic calc and see what suits u best and the levels/attacks of the creatures u want to train on

if you're mainly after mage exp and don't mind missing out on drops, i suggest curse training

basically, you wear full metal armor and/or dragonhide items to lower your magic attack bonus as much as possible (full rune will decrease it 65 magic levels and d'hide vambs will do another 10 levels). if your mage level is below the amount decreased by your equipment, your spell will fail to take effect every time (you still get the exp for casting the spell)

this is actually more effective than fire strike, since you automatically get 29 exp per curse, while fire strike gives you up to 19.5 exp per spell

i suggest you use a water or earth staff while doing this (the negative bonus of the vambraces will negate the bonus provided by the staff). preferably, use water staff since water runes are popular among members on ancients

So...let me see if I've got this straight:

-I wear armor that's bad for maging, and then the spell will never work

-Since the spell doesn't work, it won't use up any runes (?)

-Even though the spell doesn't work, I will still get some xp for the spell

Please tell me if this is right. Some how I think I've still got something mixed up.

Could someone also explain "curse training" and the best curses to use for f2p.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm good at mining, not so much with magic

well, you know how sometimes when you cast a strike spell, you see a little "splash" effect?

that's basically what happens when you fail a spell (you notice that you still use up runes to cast the spell)

and even though it fails, you still get the same amount of exp

actually, if your lucky, a good place to train is on dark mages, because they drop many runes, reducing the cost of buying all of the runes slightly. But since the stone circle near Varrock is usually crowded, log on on a england server at around 10 and you get the place to yourself.
