ancientzoide
***Ancientzoide̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Lag Guide*** ***What will this guide teach you?*** This guide will teach you the techniques I have developed over two years of playing RS on dial-up to reduce lag and to help prevent loss of connection. If you would like to test any of these please know that my internet connects at 43kbps(kilobytes per second) that is slower then the standard 56k modem connects at. ***In game tips for reducing lag*** 1. Play with the light setting on bright (I know this one sounds weird but I do lag less with this one then any of the other three light settings) 2. When you are going to enter a bank or popular marketplace, if it is pretty full, turn you public chat to hide or even off. Off works the best but you cannot see any of the posts so it is hard to buy anything. 3. Keep private chat on friends only so people do not bog you down with messages. 4. Play on low-detail. ***Out of game tips for reducing lag*** 1. Keep the number of applications* you have open to three while playing. (AIM*, MSN Messenger, and YIM do not effect your game in less you have more then 5 different applications open.) 2. Do not run any streaming videos or music as they use up a good percentage of you ISP connection and your CPU. 3. Do not run Windows Media Player, as it will use up most of your CPU and bog you down a lot. 4. Do not log into Myspace while playing because it is slowly becoming a broadband site it does cause some major lag and will cost you if you open while in wilderness. * Application = window ** I recommend using AIM because it has 1 application that every conversation is in so it saves a lot of your ISP connection and your CPU. Retired from RS since Sept
robbert
Its kilobit not kilobyte Thats a difference of a factor eight. :P 1 bit = 1 bit 1 nibble = 4 bit 1 Byte = 8 bit 1 Kb = 1 kilobit = 1024 bit 1 KB = 1 kilobyte = 8*1024 bit I hope you see this makes a lot of difference. Its a 56K modem means 56kilobit per second. Robbert

Adders13
I also suggest disk cleanup, clearing you internet files after major runescape updates and disk defragmenting once a month. Works perfect here, even though i run media player, often have dreamweaver and photoshop open and am on msn all at once. But also depends on pc specs... what if "null" wasn't loaded yet? Would he appear as bill?
Karmastocracy
I also suggest disk cleanup, clearing you internet files after major runescape updates and disk defragmenting once a month.Once a Month?! #-o I usually run disk cleanup once a week, and disk defragment every other week. nomader
do regular spyware/adware scans as those can slow your computer down greatly.
DarkDude
I do all of these, have a 54Mbps (yes, M not K), and still have bad lag.. oh well. That would be your (wireless) connection speed to your router, NOT your internet connection speed =)

fat_klutz
No joke but having ure desktop picture on something simple, like just a colored background, as apposed to a picture or something reduces lag. And putting things into folders instead of leaving them on ure desktop.... Least that stuff works for me.
