So anyway i'm moving from piano to drums and i wanted to know how diffcult that would be lol... yeah i know they have nothing to do with each other... but i would like to get some opinions before i go out and spend quite a bit of cash for a set lol

 

 

 

anyway dunno if my pervious experience in music is gonna help much #-o or anything but does anyone have sites or info they could share :P

I've learnt the drums since i was 4 years old, and learnt the piano up to grade 6, and piano reading does make drum reading very easy. Oh yeah and if you haven't got a kit, whats your budget, i could help you choose a good one :wink:

It depends a lot on how good you are in keeping rhytm and if you're able to easily move your hands and feet seperately. When I started playing the drums, it was pretty frustrating, because my eye-hand coordination was far from perfect. But give it some practice, an hour a day at least in the beginning, and you'll quickly get far.

Well, it really depends on whether or not you have a natural ability for them. I didn't, and I played the snare in the school bad a few years ago. It was sooooooo hard for me to learn. :( I bet I couldn't play anything now. :P

Piano lessons make reading drum music easier. When I first started playing in band, my friend had taken piano lessons and I never had, so he was already way ahead of me and got the be the main drummer and I totally didn't. Lame. :(

budget is probably around 500 dollers :oops: I can't afford to spend my money and call my parents in also till they know im really serious so i would have to start out myself :?

I've tried. It's more of natural ability and coordination to start with. It makes it much easier if you have good rythm.

wow, 500 dollars? i dont know what you can get with that.. but definitely just try this.. this will help decide if you want to learn the drums, and or whatever..

 

 

 

get like 2 pie tins, a metal rod or soemthing that can stand on its own. utensils nd your pianos bass petals

 

 

 

make a hole in your pie tins center, then attach them to your rod..so that the inner side(where the pie usually goes are facing together.. then grab your utensils and your piano bass petals.. and try to make a simple bea tin your head. even if the bass petals..dont work.

 

 

 

if oyu can. you mgith have a midn for drums.. if not..still try to get drums

Switching from piano to any instrument is easier than just starting on the instrument of your choice. I know it's off-topic, but it's true.

 

 

 

If your school has a band or something, I'd start out there, since it's relatively cheaper than getting lessons from a pro. After a year, see if you like it, then go on.

nazgul, I would get a Ludwig Accent starter kit.... is around $250USD, and its a really good kit for beginners.. I've been playing for 3 years and it still works for me...

anyways, you could probably buy a standard drum kit for that budget, or take the pie tin or whatever it was option :D
