Last night I had left the computer on like I normaly do and found it broken this morning. None touched it, and I have not instaled any software recently.

 

 

 

Monitor, acts like the computer is asleep, but it does work because when I remove it it gives a nosignal message.

 

 

 

Both keyboards fail to work, I have both an USB and Analog and the num key is not responding.

 

 

 

Mouse does not work.

 

 

 

CD drives open but I dont know if they run.

 

 

 

All the fans work, even those not directly conected to the power supply.

 

 

 

Hard drive sounds like it can spin.

 

 

 

My processer however is not warm, normaly it is extremly hot after a few hours of use. (the case is normaly closed but I did insure no static charges hit any of the circuits when I opened it)

 

 

 

Anyone know whats wrong? Could the motherboard be bad and calsing all of these? How could I fix it because I have homework on it due in 14 hours?

Leaving your computer on overnight can never be healthy for it.Have you tried rebooting it?A cold reboot might be in order(i.e hold the powere button down until it turns off and leave it for a minute).If your computer is broken, then how can you be on the interenet?

I only leave it on at night during weekends so I'm not too woried about it having over heated. I have tried cold rebooting it. And I have multible computers conected to the net in my house.

Well since that didnt work,you might have had a power surge,or a corrupted hard drive that slowly eats itself away,possibly a Blaster Worm virus or something.Your best bet is to put the Windows boot disk into your computer and see what happens.If nothing happens then i Seriously suggest removing your hard drive and calling a technician(make sure you unplug everything first )

Off subject, I hate when people say that. I've had uptimes upwards of several weeks and never had a single problem as of yet.

 

 

 

Sure, I suppose if you had a corrosive virus slowly deteriorating your entire hard drives content it wouldn't be good to leave it on 24/7, but then again either way you would end up with a not too great computer.... and uhh... as long as your computer doesn't completely fry itself for no apparent reason you should be fine.

 

 

 

Rebooting every 4 hours is a thing of the 90's.

My guess would be the RAM. Have you tested your RAM for errors?

Well the fact that if you leave your computer on overnight and you get a power surge,have fun putting out and electrical fire that can potentially burn your house down.And if you do have a slowly detiriorating virus but turn your computer off during the night,at least you can do something about it whilst you are on it during the day time.

If it doesnt boot the BIOS (the black screen just before the windows logo or whatever) it can be lots of different things.

 

 

 

Before testing all this, just unplug everything from your computer (except the ram and the graphic card)

 

 

 

Try to remove the ram sticks, if the computer starts acting crazy with beeps all around, its a good sign (the board and processor is working and detect theres something missing)

 

 

 

If youre not confortable doing this things, better take it to a store. Most of the times it involves lots of testing and changing parts. If you have some prob, pm me.

I was doing that not too long ago trying to work out why my pc wasn't booting. It only took one attempt to work out it was the psu, but still a good technique if you're not sure of the problem.

Any cheap old surge protector can.... protect against power surges!

What is everyones bloody problem!I was just trying to give a simple solution.Not everything is infalible,and I still connect my PC straight to the outlet,and I also turn my computer off at night,and reboot every now and then.Im sorry I cant have an uber fast PC like the rest of you,and I'm sorry that I cant waste electricity and contribute to global warming like the rest of you.

Seriously though, leaving your computer on should not be a problem. Does your computer POST? If it doesn't even post check to make sure things are securely attached. You may want to reseat a few components to see if that's the problem.

Neither the broken computer or the computer I am currently typing on made a sound when they where booted. The broken computer also failed to beep when I removed the RAM.

Err... before you unplug it you should probably uninstall it though your device manager other wise you might run into electrical problems... I.E. your mobo frying itself. Not likely, but possible. I've seen it happen :P
