October 13, 200619 yr Theme: A generalized statement about humanity that can pertain to any part of it and teaches us a lesson. This is often the author's/creater's message. Novels are read in class because of this reason. Theme is taught in out schools so that we can learn Moral lessons which will help us to understand life a little better. I Would like to think that video games are can have the same effect. I would like to know what kind of themes the people of this foum can see from variouse video games. Tip. Subject and theme are diffrent. A subject could be war, but that isnt the theme. The theme that goes with the subject could be that war sucks and is a waste of time because of the ammount of lives lost. there could also be an opposit theme saying the other side. October 13, 200619 yr Halo --> A lot of religious references here, such as the Ark, the Flood, and the Forerunners. Also shows what can happen when a society (i.e. the Covenant) gets WAY too into their religion. Mugutu
October 13, 200619 yr I suggest you re-write all of that. I read it over 5 times and was still confused about what the hell you were trying to get at... maby because of your terrible grammar. No offense to you, but if you want replies I think you should fix your statements...
October 13, 200619 yr Author err can i ask but what does this have to do with any of our lives and medal of honor frount line has history in it WWII was real you know no mater how much you dont want it to be There is a diffrence between subject and theme. Subject is what something is about, and that is what theme can be built on, but it is not theme (Not a lesson to be learned). Therefore just because medal of honor is about war, does not mean it is the theme. And im not looking for what was real. Im looking for the moral and social lessons that games can teach us. I.E. The book "Lord of the Flies" main theme was how the fear in our hearts can creat evil. The lesson it teaches us: Dont fear what everything that cant be explained at first hand because then it causes use to hate, and hate is evil. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! October 13, 200619 yr When I was playing Battlefield I learned a decent bit about the wepons/vehicles used in the wars. When you have to wait for a map to load it would show you a wepon/vehicle used at the time of the war and some history about it. I'm too tired to think of any others at the moment but I know there's a lot of games that teach us stuff without us hardly knowing it :anxious: Internet Marketing For Newbies

The lesson it teaches us: Dont fear what everything that cant be explained at first hand because then it causes use to hate, and hate is evil. I thought the theme was that man is inheritly evil and when their backs are against the wall, they'll revert back into savages. I could be wrong, but I doubt it \ The problem with the gene pool is that there's no lifeguard.
October 13, 200619 yr The half-life series have a very good plot. Yep, games are like novells that you play. Lastfm

I forgot to mention that here in canada, theme is considered a grade 10 (so high school) thing in english class. So not all people might know what i mean by theme. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! While some video games have complex stories, they will never be able to offer the same amount of complexity and depth as a novel. For example, The Scarlet Letter is a great book, it has symbols, motifs, allusions, and themes all over the place. You can never get that with in a simple game that was probably created to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. Therefore, there aren't many games with deep and complex themes. After all, video games are mostly for young children and teenagers who won't bother to look beyond the game to discover their deeper meanings. Also, there are no protagonists in most video games. Remember, a protagonist isn't just the main character of the story, he/she must also undergo significant psycological change. The theme of Half Life may be that tampering with nature is bad. However, Gordon Freeman may represent humanity, who, in defiance of nature, is attempting to force it to submit to humanity (portal thing?). Gordon Freeman is fighting a losing battle against nature (represented by the thingies that came out of the portals). However, Gordon Freeman does not undergo a major psychological change. Also, Gordon Freeman would have to lose and die for the theme to be true, which I doubt the creators will do.

October 14, 200619 yr "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering." - Yoda To be perfectly honest, everything is possibly pointless. The fact that I said possibly is the very reason that people are able to belittle some actions over others, sadly. Oh well. Nihilism ftw... Runescape Name: "unbug07"Expand your mind.
