For example many uploaders use multiple proxies or "zombie" computers to transmit files into the network, masquerading the innocent 'hostage' computer as the uploader. Very few uploaders also upload hundreds of gigabytes of data with their real IP address, though this has happened and they've been caught fast. Not to mention the fact that you can set up many virtual servers with different IP addresses with a person never being really behind any of those IP's, the list goes on...

If you uploaded 750gb of new movies and music and software to other users on a 100mbps connection through a single IP every few weeks you could get in trouble faster than you think. My upload ratio is also near those numbers, well actually almost more than double of that, but it spreads out over years. I'm quite positive many peers upload 1gb+ a day, how many upload 100gb+ 365 days a year is up to you to find out. That, and a sick upload connection costs dough. Anyways, let's just leave it at that as Anesthesia said as I'm quite positive the tip.it staff has stated at some point they don't want piracy discussion (though we didn't mention anything concrete yet).

No nothing. but why buy a CD full of crap for just one song? and why pay to recive a rootkit its been known for a long time that you shouldnot open suspicious email attachments. I think its equally stupid to put a CD from one of these crimminals (Sony BMG) into your computer Sony was caught installing rootkits onto peoples machines the recording industry will never be trustworthy enuth for me to put one of their CDs into my computer again. I'll bet you loved the fact that Sony came out with those rootkits. Since you never bought CDs anyway, it gave you the perfect excuse to keep on stealing music illegally. He knows it can't be totally stopped, people like him so out of spite they will actually buy his records because he's that awesome. He sells more than some pop artists and he makes only comedy songs.
October 24, 200619 yr As other people have said, what limited knowledge I have about how p2p networks actually work, would lead me to believe that this won't be effective. Actually credit to the RIAA for thinking of a way to exploit the file sharing market, it's not great, but it's a start I suppose. Even if i was to download a fake song, the time it would take me to find the real thing wouldn't put me off. Oh noes, a few adverts on file sharing networks, although I use them, I concede there should be some kind of incentive to buy the real thing. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
