1st Terragen Piece (edit2: new v2+new piece)

Featured Replies

I'm amazed at this program, simply, amazed! This program is so powerful and yet it's so easy to use! I just got it and this is my first piece I made with a little help of a tutorial.

[EDIT]

Added v2 below at the bottom. Touched it up a bit in Photoshop, including v1 which I re-uploaded below.

Another new piece, hehehe!

I got Terragen too, needs time if you want to make progress.

I like the snow in it, Maybe you should lower the water stance a bit, for

a more realistic look (I never saw a mountain with snow, so close to the surface.)

Good luck with it, have you seen Nadril's landscapes yet?

Thanks for the input and no I haven't seen Nadril's landscapes yet, by the way, I got a v2 of this coming up later.

Yeah, um... It's all too smooth. Not sure how to sort that, haven't used Terragen in ages.

Also, the land variation isn't much, in my opinion it could do with being a bit more random.

As said, water level is a tad high aswell.

Nice for a start, atleast. :)

Thanks for the C/C! I actually took that into consideration and gave it a shot. Now I know the clouds are messed but I can't be bothered to let it render the image again for another 7 minutes with better clouds, I'll do it later! :P

Also got better textures, detail and blending now.

-EDIT-

Forgot to actually say, re-read my first post and I've added v2, I touched it up in Photoshop and v1 as well which is also re-uploaded.

Oh man, it's been forver since i've seen a terragen around here. Anyways, you have a lot of the problems many people do with the program.

surface map:

- A common problem people have is they show way too much of they grey. You need more than just snow like that. Don't be afraid you use more than a few textures, I usualy use up to 20-30 in mine, depending on what I need.

Actual terrain:

- Mountains don't enter water like that. This is another common problem. Land generaly meets water at something like a beach, rarely like in the images your provided.

Atmosphere:

- Play with it more. Right now it's a simple, blue sky. Terragen is cappable of much more.

I'm sure I can come up with more, but I want to wait until your a bit more familier with the program.

oh and:

Probaly my best 3 examples. I haven't done any work with the program in ages.. maybe it's time to start again.

*BIG LONG QUOTE*

 Those pieces are amazing! May I use one as my background? :3>

And to the author of this topic: I think they look good, but the water in the mountains doesn't fit right. It looks like someone poured water in between the mountains and it had been sitting there for --maybe 30 seconds.

Two things. One, I used to have Nadril's planets as BGs. His dA page was my one-stop-shop for BGs ( ) and they did the job very, very well.

Second, whoah, looked at your avvie on dA. Man I remember that, you haven't used it on TIF in ages. It pwns. :P

Bleh, once I get off my lazy bum and go to Imageshack, there will be a picture here.

Damn Nadril...those pieces are amazing. But I don't have the full concept and control of Terragen, when I posted those, I only had the program for 1 or 2 hours.

I don't yet seem to know how to actually control the mountains it generates or were the water is placed or control the area/size it goes or how far the snow goes on the mountains. (hence I'm having problems making it stop near the bottom of the mountains where it enters water).

mwp9oo.jpg

Yeah, it takes time to get used to the program :).

I'd recomend you download world machine. (google it). It's a terrain creation program, much more powerful than terragens built in commands.

Better. The mountain touching the water is better.

better, but it still confuses me that the world ends behind the last mountains in every picture.

Uh, wanna elaborate what that means? :?

basically the sea doesn't continue after mountains (see the 2nd picture) which gives an illusion that world would "end" after that ledge of water.

-> In horizon there's only sky

Well if you could understand the view and look of the water flow;

The first one your looking at the mountains as if you just came to that island of them, meaning all the sea surrounds the place.

The second one it continues after the mountains end a little bit but the terrain didn't generate enough for it to carry on.

The third one I don't see that 'error' exists there as it seems fine.

In the fourth (last) one, it goes of left in between the mountains.
