Problems with HTTP

Anesthesia

Recommended Posts

This is posted on behalf of the user Lateralus. He can't post it himself for reasons which will become apparent.

He is unable to access any webpages. MSN works fine for him, as do all other services aside from HTTP. HTTP works fine on his brother's computer, which connects to the interweb through the same router.

He has tried resetting the router several times, to no avail - all the while his brother's computer can access pages just fine. He has also tried using FF and IE, neither of which fix the problem.

It is unlikely to be a DNS problem because his machine's DNS settings are the same as those on his brother's machine - both set to acquire a DNS automatically. He is also unable to access pages by entering their IP in his browser.

There is one fishy thing though: in his IE settings it has an automatic proxy configuration script entered (http://localhost:9100/proxy.pac). When he tried to remove it, it was replaced as soon as he reopened the settings window. This setting does not appear in FF though.

He's on XP SP2

Can anyone offer any insight?

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

Not very helpful since you have to pay for a subscription to view the solutions there.

The problem is due to a bad proxy server used by Google Web Accelerator. Uninstall it , remove the proxy setting and it should browse normally.

I like to fart silently but deadly in movie theaters
