Anesthesia
This is posted on behalf of the user Lateralus. He can't post it himself for reasons which will become apparent. He is unable to access any webpages. MSN works fine for him, as do all other services aside from HTTP. HTTP works fine on his brother's computer, which connects to the interweb through the same router. He has tried resetting the router several times, to no avail - all the while his brother's computer can access pages just fine. He has also tried using FF and IE, neither of which fix the problem. It is unlikely to be a DNS problem because his machine's DNS settings are the same as those on his brother's machine - both set to acquire a DNS automatically. He is also unable to access pages by entering their IP in his browser. There is one fishy thing though: in his IE settings it has an automatic proxy configuration script entered (http://localhost:9100/proxy.pac). When he tried to remove it, it was replaced as soon as he reopened the settings window. This setting does not appear in FF though. He's on XP SP2 Here are his running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ISSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\IWP\NPFMntor.exe C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SMAgent.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exe C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_05\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lexpps.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\GoogleWebAccWarden.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\sistray.exe C:\Program Files\ZyDAS\ZD1211 802.11g Utility\ZDWlan.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\googlewebaccclient.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AcroRd32Info.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\My Documents\Unzipped\hijackthis[1]\HijackThis.exe Here are his running services: R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,AutoConfigURL = http://localhost:9100/proxy.pac O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: Google Web Accelerator Helper - {69A87B7D-DE56-4136-9655-716BA50C19C7} - C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\GoogleWebAccToolbar.dll O2 - BHO: Windows Live Sign-in Helper - {9030D464-4C02-4ABF-8ECC-5164760863C6} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WindowsLiveLogin.dll O2 - BHO: Norton Internet Security - {9ECB9560-04F9-4bbc-943D-298DDF1699E1} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {A8F38D8D-E480-4D52-B7A2-731BB6995FDD} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Norton Internet Security - {0B53EAC3-8D69-4b9e-9B19-A37C9A5676A7} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {C4069E3A-68F1-403E-B40E-20066696354B} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Google Web Accelerator - {DB87BFA2-A2E3-451E-8E5A-C89982D87CBF} - C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\GoogleWebAccToolbar.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_05\bin\jusched.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [siSPower] Rundll32.exe SiSPower.dll,ModeAgent O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [sTYLEXP] C:\Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP\StyleXP.exe -Hide O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background O4 - Global Startup: Run Google Web Accelerator.lnk = C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\GoogleWebAccWarden.exe O4 - Global Startup: Utility Tray.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\system32\sistray.exe O4 - Global Startup: ZDWlan.lnk = ? Albosky
Not very helpful since you have to pay for a subscription to view the solutions there. The problem is due to a bad proxy server used by Google Web Accelerator. Uninstall it , remove the proxy setting and it should browse normally. I like to fart silently but deadly in movie theatersArd Choille says (11:41 PM):I wouldn't dare tell you what to do m'dear
