leinfo
so, i have been taking latin as a foreign language in my school, and i have noticed some latin in runescape, example: Canifis(town) canis-dog(latin) so, i was wondering, has anybody else found any thing like i have also, i have heard that miscelania is somewhat latin, correct me if im wrong, but a friend told me that miscillaneous has latin routs, sorry if i am incorrect but has any body else found anything like i have? Yep Miscellania can be directly traced to the latin word 'Miscellanea' meaning sundries/odds and ends, indeed the same word is still in use today. There is also Miscellany meaning the same thing but with the more modern spelling - both are included in the English dictionary. Both are derivatives of the latin word 'Miscellus' meaning mixed. Huge amounts of the English language are based upon Latin, using 'Canis' as another example, the modern day word 'Canine' is derived from it's Latin source. Interestingly though, the word 'Rune' is not Latin-based, but rather has Germanic and Celtic origins coming from the word 'Ru-no' meaning 'source of magic' hey, thats pretty cool, i had a feeling that misceleania(sorry about spelling, its late and im on a bad keyboard) had a llatin route so nice post =; thanks for the cropping Mr Joob =]

leinfo
yar, there is a lot of Latin in this game if you just look for it. I am also a latin student (at our school for latin 1-3 we use the "Ecce Romani" series (look, the romans) i can't remember who it was who posted the line about marcus and cornelia, but those two are both in this book too lol. i'm in Latin 2 (which is really easy) we are currently working on the passive (for example: in tertio tabulato huius insulae est mater [bleep] duobus liberis. Hi miseri flammis paene opprimuntur) i'll have to watch for more latin though, but i think a lot of the spells that the mages and whatnot say when they cast spells are in latin if i remember right yea, we use rosetta stone v.21 i think, its horrible, they dont teach us the words, hey gve us horrible pictures and make us decphier the phrase hat matches the pictures, and the pictures dont make any sense at all, for example puella scribbit (girl and write i think....) was matched with some like creature with glasses and a pencil. i was like WTF? thanks for the cropping Mr Joob =]

I do beleave that latin was useed in a tell tale heart too i think it was some phrase or something the main character said when the heart beat was getting louder, i dont know lol :-# thanks for the cropping Mr Joob =]

I only know some Canis Camen Edit (dog eat dog) name of the game Bully in Britain. Ragina must mean Queen, I've heard it somewhere. Never heard of that, but it should say "Canis canem edit" (switch the m and n in the second canis: -em is the accusitive, or direct object, ending). EDIT: Lol, I forgot to add that "regina" is the word for queen, not "ragina" . Totally missed that sentence... [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series. Aneron
latin is what people call a dead language, its called this cause like with english, english gets slang words like pal, sup, and so on, but with latin no slang words or any words are changed in oral or on written work, so basically if a scientist discovers a new cell o something, he'll name it in latin and it'll be translated from latin to french, spanish, italian, english, and nay other language. English is made up from alot of languages and continues to be made up from various and sometimes more languages. (spelling sucks by the way=/) I think jagex even posted on the main site about using different language words for purposes that may involve the game becoming a bilingual or multilingual language game. english was developed like pegion? (language developed in hawaii after they shiped slaves there for work on plantations from all pacific countries, mix of phillipean, chinese, japanese, hawaiian, and other pegion thast a language lol? never heard of it, i think you mixed up something here and any language is developt that way first u have so to say "the stem" of the language the main words and then when the language is develeped enough it absorbes words form other languages as far as i know one of the poorest languages is turckish since they dont have many words of their own and all the new aren't absorbed fast enough to full fill the breach thats made Pegion is a mishmash language spoken in Hawaii, with elements of all the languages leinfo mentioned. I am taking 8th grade latin (first year though  ), but my teacher is not very good. On top of that I have her for French too :wall: 3 months into the school year and we arent done with our first chapter in latin, and we just finished a review chapter from last year in french #-o Anyway, I think it is natural that elements of other languages are present in runescape, after all it is a multinational game (although you do kinda need to know english to play it :-# ) Like somebody said earlier, by putting a really basic name (dog-town) in latin you can get a passable and cool-sounding name (canifis).
