November 10, 200619 yr New set of fake emails going round, they look like this: ___________________________________________________________ Dear (your real name, think their finding it through these forums), We are the jagex team and are happy to inform you that you have been chosen through careful examination to become a player moderator. Please do not think of this message as fraud. We have temporarily shut down the website mail system and therefore we have to send via email. Please check the RuneScape new archive and we hope to explain email sending soon. If you wish to become a player moderator, you must be a good example for other RuneScape players and report abuses efficiently. Your account would be able to log in the player moderator centre 5 days later and you will be having abilities to mute players for 48 hours and your Report Abuses will be reviewed quicker by our staff. Finally please send us your RuneScape username (your user name, slayer shunt in this case) and password for processing your information into the RuneScape player moderator centre. Please reply if you have any inquries and our staff will be happy to help. There will be no need of any other details such as Bank PIN's or recovery questions. Yours Sincerely, Mod_Ash ____________________________________________________________ DO NOT BE FOOLED, this is a gmail account (free email) and 100% fake. Send NO information, even gratuitous abuse. by sending them anything u confirm ur email is active and will recieve more scams. This is the only site which has both my email, my true name & my username on it therefore i believe they are targetting the users of this forum. these guys however are not particularly clever they sent me someone elses scam letter too, to a guy called Michael Legg whoever the hell he is. Anyways thats the heads up. dont get sucked in by it.
November 10, 200619 yr Thanks. It's hard to get tricked by these anymore as they're becoming so typical with online games, but it never hurts to have them revealed in case anyone would otherwise believe them =D>
November 10, 200619 yr God there are so many of these sort of e-mails going round. You really would need to be quite silly to get caught out by them. They can't even spell inquiries properly... @Trade_With
November 10, 200619 yr Author i'll probably report the scam to jagex but theres not much they can do about it. it is indeed a shame.
November 10, 200619 yr i'll probably report the scam to jagex but theres not much they can do about it. it is indeed a shame. Comment removed. Violates tip.it forum rules section 1.5 - McGuff1 @Trade_With
November 10, 200619 yr The best JAGeX could probably do would be to contact the email provider and have the email account banned for attempted fraud. This wouldn't really help though, as they could simply create another email account :-k
November 10, 200619 yr Don't know why anyone would think jagex is E-MAILING them from a FREE MAIL service, but I guess some people fall for it if the scammers are taking time to do it.
November 10, 200619 yr But the truely sad thing is I guarantee at least 10 people will answer this fake e-mail and give em all the info then get their accounts stolen because they dont have a bank pin. Geaux Tigers ! Congrats on a great year !
November 10, 200619 yr Sunli summed up the point quite well here. Simple: Don't tinker with anything outwith your normal field of use. Offline and unavailable.
November 12, 200619 yr If you have a Gmail account you can always filter those messages directly to the trash. Thank the world for spell checkers.
November 12, 200619 yr Those things are really common, so it's nothing new, although I only got 1 and that was like over a year ago. If you use common sense and read the rules, you will never fall for a scam like that  Best way to deal with that is to reply with fake info. Imagine if everyone did that; it would keep them busy for a while :D
November 12, 200619 yr why did you have to tell them i didnt get anyones password! :( (im jking incase you didnt know :shame: ) My carbon footprint is bigger than yours...and you know what they say about big feet. These are the times that try mens souls...
