RebelAssassin
christmas is coming up and i need some advise on what to get. I play BF2 quite a bit but my GFX card isnt very good (geforce fx 5200) and im looking to get a new one. i will need to upgrade my PSU aswell (currently 250whts) i have a limit of ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã125, ive found a 400wht PSU for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã36, unless somone can find one for a better price, i will have ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã89. What card should i get that will let me play BF2 on low settings with no lag at all for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã89? EDIT: forgot, i have only AGP available www.PETAkillsanimals.com
zonda
I got an AGP nvidia GeForce 7600 GS Very little improovement from my fx 5700. Yes, of course there is some. The card was only like 120 bucks or something, so I'm not complaining, but in reality, AGP has gone out the windows just as quickly as it came. ... Cruiser
AGP has been around for a looonngg time (in computer terms anyway :P ). The 1ghz machine my dad built in the mid 90s has an AGP 1x/2x slot in it. Finding AGP cards is getting harder and harder with PCIe becoming the new standard so you may want to save up some money and build yourself an entirely new system instead of wasting time finding and buying outdated hardware. Building yourself a PCIe system will also leave you open to upgrading for quite a while to come.
____
the only psu i say anyone should get is the antec phantom. costly, but very well worth it. Probably take up the 125, but meah. vid card, dunno. my 9800 pro runs pretty much everything fine, but i'm also looking to upgrade. anything within 1 /2 years old with 128 - 256mb will do it fine. Chris
"550W" PSU for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã19.96 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductI ... tID=132721 I quoted 550W because it probably isn't true... But it's more than enough to run what you have. 512MB HIS Radeon X1650Pro AGP8x - BUY IT NOW! = ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã103.39 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductI ... tID=487722 For the money, that's a good card... In fact I'm pretty sure it's a pricing mistake. :| If you don't like ATi/AMD cards then, I suggest you go for... 512MB BFG Technology 7600GS, OC = ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã105.50 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductI ... tID=454108 Slightly more expensive, but in all it's worth it for the extra performance. As it's factory overclocked. :) Notoriously Trollish.
RebelAssassin
i was going to get a 7600GS but i was told that a GT was better? www.PETAkillsanimals.com
Chris
i was going to get a 7600GS but i was told that a GT was better? Yep it is, but in your price range. I don't see how you'll afford a decent PSU and a 7600GT. A standard 7600GS (256MB version) can be as little as ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã76.09 (Scan.co.uk). A standard 7600GT (256MB version) can be as little as ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã114.89 (Scan.co.uk). Quite frankly this is the most research I've ever done on nVidia cards... I usually stick with ATi. : Notoriously Trollish.
Anesthesia
Aren't the GT versions PCI-E anyway? Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.
biohazardous
nvidia are great cards, expecially the newer versions but nvidia usually go overboard with their prices, expecially the newer series...
