im1knight
okay..here is my problem.. which is better? i saw that mcafee full protection was $99 and Norton was $59, so um...i got kinda confused. they r all 2007 version and can install on 3 computers. any1 know which 1 is better, like whihc 1 is easier to use, which firewall and virus scan is better? Cruiser
Both blow major chunks. Norton is a massive resource hog and misses infections. McAffee has released numerous updates without proper testing that have screwed over more than a few corperate systems. Get yourself AVG and Zonealarm if you need AV and a firewall. Both are free and already widely used.

Notorious_Ice
Yes it is very good. The best free firewall I know of. Its better then plenty of pay firewalls too. Don't be afraid your life will end, be afraid it will never begin.
Kinslayer777
Cruiser knows just what he says. Norton, has always (except when it was the ONLY av) been crap. Mcafee was alright for a while. Very smart too, early introduction of non-active progs to get people to buy them. Stinger and such, saved me alot. They've more recently (last couple years) been crap. I'd recommend...just what Cruiser recommended... :? Edit: One altercation. The free version of Zonealarm is somewhat weak. Evidently you have the money to pay for something, so i suggest if you wish to get the Zonealarm Firewall (29.99 9.99 yearly suscription- consider getting the free version for now until holiday promos start sprouting up) or the Zonealarm Suite (69.99) although the suite isn't worth it unless you really don't care for the money. biohazardous
Norton is cancer for your computer and Mcafee just interferes with everything... Get AVG ftw When i switched from norton to AVG, Instantyl AVG picked up about 25 virii that norton missed.

coltm4carbine
here's what I'm using on my main pcs: Laptop: AVG free, AVG AntiSpyware free [manual updates etc] (formerly ewido), Windows Firewall. Desktop: McAfee Personnal firewall, AVG free, Ad-aware, spybot, AVG AS and windows defender. Both the PCs are hiding behind my router too. From personnal experience: Norton Killed My PC within a month. McAfee was good. Kaspersky was the best but my subsciption ran out. Zonealarm got on my nerves. Kerio personnal firewall was also good. Kinslayer777
Windows firewall is NOT a substantial firewall. Sunbelt Keiro or Zonealarm is the way to go. It's some people's foolish faults. at only the *very beginning* will the firewall ask you many questions. Once you set it up, like letting your browser automatically connect to the Internet, and various programs like AVG to get updates, then you will not have trouble until something nasty (like an infection) tries calling home. zonda
...Mcafee just interferes with everything... Never had a problem yet with mcafee, and I've been using it for the past 5 years or so. Yea, they've had a few bugs... but so has every other form of software... ever. Overall, it takes up about 15 - 25m of RAM, which is fine because it's doing it's job protecting my computer. I've never had it interfere with anything accept for the occasional script kiddie... If you want to talk about interference, point your arrow towards windows firewall - "ZOMG your trying to run msword.e3e THIS COULD BE A VIRUS!!!!" ... Vape
I've used Norton for probably 5 years now (previously just Antivirus, now the Internet Security Suite) and it's been great. That being said, I've not tried any others and since my parents are paying for it the money isn't a big deal. Where the bloody hell are you? biohazardous
biohazardous knows what hes talking abt! I'm using AVG and Spybot atm and its working fine for me.. I HATE ZONEALARM!! it pops up every 5 seconds when nothing is wrong!! =) AHere are some benefits of the 2: AVG - Lowering the priority of it by about 1 hardly effects the scanning of it and helps tonnes if doing other stuff at same time (not major recource hog (unlike Norton)) SpyBot - Quick... Quick updating and substantialy fast scanning. My PC's about 5 years old (yes, i know....) It has 512mb ram, 1.8 ghz pent. 4 cpu and full 80gb hard drive (just about to build a new betty from cratch) and it scans my PC in about 20 mins. Kinslayer777
Hmmm..Isn't it wonderful that you're now probably more confused then before? I anycase, listen to me! ;) I've actually tried them all :P Oh, and if you demand norton I suppose I'll mention there's a six month trial in the google pack. And, I'll make sure to mention there's a neverending trial for AVG if you're using it for non-commercial reasons.
