i am wondering if the max sticks of ram that you can have in your computer is 2, because thats the most ive heard of people having. i was looking in my computer and i saw 4 slots for ram sticks and i might have some extras lying around. all i need to know right now is what is the max number of sticks of ram i can have?

If you have 4 slots you can have 4 sticks...

You'd need to look up your motherboard's details to find out what the maximum capacity is though. It is no good having 4 slots and trying to fill them with 1GB sticks when your motherboard only supports up to 2GB in total.

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

Got to be the right sort, of course, and some implementations will lose performance with 4 pieces installed, unless each piece operates as single banked (some say "single sided", but that does not always hold true that banks and sides are comparable).

Older systems had even more limitations, with early PC100/133 SDRAM systems often unable to use 512MB modules or even some 256's

when i get the system information , it shows that it is a dell dimension DM051 inter pentium 4 cpu 3.00GHz 2.99GHz, 512 MB of RAM

does that mean that that is the max i can have, or is it just the amount that i do have. i know that i do have 512 mb

Make sure you research a little about ram. I don't know much i never needed to look into it but the glimpse i got was that not all ram fits together :) More then just the simple dual slot cards same type but also some latency speed jazz i never looked into.

Sick! That thing should run prettyyyyy well. Never ran on 4gb of ram before, but my friend was getting a 6,000 dollar cpu with 4 GHz Processor speed and 4gb of ram. Not anymore though :( I think it'd be pretty fun to go on though and browse the internet...

Except for some sort of undercover intel-microsoft weird patch a friend claims,

remember that the standard 32bit version of Windows only can support up to 3.2gigs of ram. You can run 4gigs but wont get more then 3.2

I wouldn't really recommend more then 2gigs unless you really need it. At least for now. Sell it while the prices are high if you happen to have two gigs. You can get ALOT for quality 1*2 DDR2
