Kinslayer777
I'm vaguely worried this is against rules, however, here i am. I'm seeking to collect various quotes that are particularly good against the article. In my opinion, i felt it was dreadful. You're free to disagree or agree, or even to make a thread in support [unless this is against the rules] but perhaps that would be rather redundant to the article. My believe is that this is not the same as the discussion thread. Yes, i realize it exists. However, this is to highlight particular points i feel, and other people if I get responses, felt were very good against the article. I realize it is much more difficult to read through 4 pages of posts, good, bad, articulation, or just insensible. In any case, here are some of my favorites, feel free to post your own I'll see if other people/I like it then I'll include them in this list. Oh, and those occasional references to started a flame war, I'll admit, , that was me with whiz kid, I stopped though hehee.... Oh, final note: There are a few things i removed from quotes that i felt wasn't strong/was redundant to other quotes/I needed to shorten it . Maybe to make up for this^ These are in no particular order By far the worst tip.it times ever written, at least in my opinion. (And yes I have read them all) I liked the whole idea behind this article. People do take the game too serious. some people play way too much, others scam, and still others auto. However, this article focused way too much on aspects that will not be changed, such as n00bs. There will always be younger, or immature players in the game. There will always be scammers, and until JaGex makes anti macroeing a priority, there will always be macroers. This article was mostly just whining. The worst part of the article was the section on obsessive training. Since when does people advancing the highscores effect you, or any other player for that matter, in a negative way? ---Indeed. How is this negative to? Is it negative because it of...Jealousy...Laziness...? Granted however, yes, anger at autoers is reasonable. You do have the option of moving to members though. Although a result of Jagex repetitiveness in training, and poorly enforced, If it weren't for the free worlds they could not exist. It sounded more of one long rant in one part of the article. If you could afford a phat, you would buy it. It's not up to you to say what you think ppl should do with their lives. If i decided to no life rs, i would, and you wouldnt be avle to stop me, just like all the other players who are doing it now. ---Starting strong, dark ended up with a pretty aweful post. However, in this excerpt he once again stresses the important point why is this bad?! not generally impressed with the article, raised some points about the point of rares being stupid prices which I would like to explain because of the way the market is designed where money is being constantly created, anything that is non renewable will have a highly inflationary value as shown quite thoroughly by someone versed in economics in several previous articles (not sure of name, but he knew what he was talking about). the rare's actually work as a inflationary pressure release valve, which means that the vast brunt of inflation at the moment is absorbed in rares, and not onto things that newer players might want. Without these rares prices of basic materials could theoritically increase further beyond the value of alching the finished component (like bows for example) and people at the top end of the market would put there money into semi-rares (hard to re-new items like whips, d chains etc) that would likely put them out of the price range of lower players, other MMORGS do suffer from all of the other things such as begging(people who's destiny it is to become losers), scamming, autoing, obsessives (people who want to win, most people who succeed at anything need this they just need to focus on better things than games) I personally would prefer an emphasis on the enjoyable things about the game such as learning that effort begets reward, meeting and making friends with people from half way round the world, the value of goal and target setting, amoung many others. ---Interesting, i must have missed that article. The other day it occurred to me, and i was thinking "Hmmmpf, that's useful" the phrase "It's only a game" doesn't apply to every aspect of RS. Your items and stats represent how much time of your life you have put into this game - so when you get hacked and people tell you "It's only a game," they don't seem to realize that the hacker just stole hours/days/weeks/months from your life. --Perhaps a little extreme, however, if it takes you one hour to make 150k, then in order to return to your former runescape playing ability unfortunately you need to 'waste' another hour . I do wonder why I always see the words scammer and merchanting being used in the same sentence and header when people talk about general issues in the game. It gets even worse when those people then admit that there's nothing wrong with merchanting. I mean, if you really think there's nothing wrong with it (in fact, there is nothing wrong with it), then why link it to scamming in the first place? Furthermore, the same people generally proceed to say how merchants are changing their prices the whole time with huge price ranges. However, at the same time they also claim that the amount of merchants in the game is extraordinary, and that, for this reason, merchanting is not as easy as it sounds. Is it just me or are these two statements in complete disagreement with each other? --In addition, Merchanting in fact in some sense lowers prices. You can buy bulk from a merchant, saving time, or buy piece by piece if you value your time less then the premium. However, I am less experiences in the non-bulk order of merchanting. First off. Yes, it is only a game. But your perception of a "game" differs greatly than the next player. Some people have more time and CHOOSE to spend their time playing Runescape instead of ----------, playing football*, watching TV*, running*, and any number of activities*. They just enjoy Runescape. That's great that you're not a member, and I understand that. Maybe you should experience the game before you make generalizations about the whole entire Runescape community? Secondly, I would like to discuss your use of the word "nerd" (I am assuming this is an insult). How can you call them nerds when you have not met these specific persons. This, by itself, shows how bad the article is**. I was quite disgusted by your insults to those who you have never met. When you use insults, you lose ALL respect when conveying your point to others about a certain group. How can you say all of these people are "stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person" or "an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit"? You cannot even say most. Frankly, I am appalled. Next. Yes, autoers do ruin the game. I agree. It kind of squashes the achievements of others. However, you cannot call ALL of them nerds because many of them are just into money-making for quick cash. Don't convey your opinion to make it sound like all P2P-ers are like that guy who insulted you. Just a reminder. Not everyone plays for the same reason you do. Some want to be the best, and that is why they play a lot. Party Hats and some other rares could also fall into this category. Why would someone pay 500M for a piece of blue virtual paper? Ha, it's virtual money. Do not forget that. Virtual cash can go into virtual paper or virtual skills. Who are you to tell people what they should spend THEIR time and money on? Yeah, they like having paper. So what? You can't say it can be better spent because you are not the spender. A little angry, perhaps, but who am I to speak of that  Please consider the points brought up without overlooking them because you disagree and become hostile at the tone. e_Logan"]I am incredibly disappointed by this article. The author complains and whines incessantly about autoers, noobs, newbs, merchants, scammers, and no-lifers. All anyone has to do is go to the Rants forum and it's the same story told fifty different ways. The author should seriously learn to thicken his or her skin to such biting remarks as "noob". As for merchants, try to keep your head on straight when dealing with them. If all else fails, use the Runescape forums to trade. Prices there are incredibly fair. The "obsession" section of the article is what bothered me the most. I can spend anywhere from 10 to 20 hours in a week on this game, and if I know I'm going to have to free time for it, possibly more. This is not to say that I'm a "nerd" or a "geek" or a "social outcast". Quite the opposite. I'm a very successful Art student enrolled at a wonderful college. I have my circle of friends. Does Runescape interfere with my life? No, it does not. Not one bit. Perhaps the author should've thought this article out a bit more instead of alienating a vast majority of his or her reader base. ---It is indeed possible to play long hours, and function in life. Who knows? Maybe your life is like some people scrambling for a few hours. Or maybe you have spare time and play alot. Is it necessary to sacrifice certain things to play longer? Not always, and even if it is that means to the particular person Runescape is more important. They're happy, why aren't you? It should be noted i did edit these quotes!!! Not actually inserting words, but merely removing some words. This was with the intention of removing things already hammered in by other cited sources. Also, for parts of their speech i personally felt were less impacting. Opinion differs? POST :) That's it for tonight, besides having looked through the posts, I didnt really have much time to look this over Disclamer[/insert]. Sorry it's late i need to catch some winks. It's my hope that people consider the points. My intention is to separate these points, because few people will go through all the posts of the discussion. Before locking this, please consider that. Ohh...And one more thing. Yes, it is rather odd to be making a thread about an article. But in it of itself we get a whole new discussion...Isn't that fun? Yes the article can't be changed now but who knows where this discussion leads? Please next article include something perhaps education, perhaps interesting, perhaps worthy of being an esteemed Tip.it Time. NOT a long nonsensical rant. darkmage099
You didn't rebut the article at all, you rebutted all the posts that were in rebuttal of the article. Actually, they were not even rebuttals. They were merely his opinions of our rants on the article. He never responded to specific points. Therefore, it is not a rebuttal. Good job though piecing it together. I like it. Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!
Kinslayer777
Oops, sorry, I had hopped this was dead on page 3 :( I've stopped supporting my own thread because, honestly, it has very little purpose. A few notes. I never rebutted posts in rebuttal of the article. Nice job reading what i 'wrote'. I merely recapped various strong arguements against the article + added a tad of my own (not in the quotes) This has no purpose because it is simply moot that the article was terrible. Why am I reposting strong arguements. I can't see any strengths to the article, it's simply a joke. Misplaced in time, April not December that's the month. If anyone actually feels this has a purpose say it please I'll go through the rest of the posts in the discussion thread. Dracion seems to have responded to a few, selectively, how wonderful. Perhaps he can respond to these.
