bmboy
Well, up until yesterday, I used IE6, but windows went and decided to automatically update to IE7. I don't really mind that much, except for one problem. When I hit start, and go to my games sub-folder, there's an icon there for runescape. It's just the link moved out of IE's favorites list, and placed there so I can get to http://www.runescape.com. The other two browsers remain blank, and IE6 doesn't run properly. I've tried deleting the link, hoping that a new copy created in IE7 would work, but no go. Any ideas?
Kinslayer777
I know this is a lame, perhaps even bothersome, suggestion seeing as it's ignoring your problem but you really ought to get firefox. Yes, this isn't an answer to IE but it is a solution i suppose. Or, at least, Opera. But there's no need to turn this into a browser battle if you'd ratehr not and for some inexplicable (maybe the evilness of IE being preinstalled and you used to it?) reason want to stick with IE. Diminished2b
Maybe try uninstalling the version you don't want, and keeping the other.
Vito_Blade
Maybe try uninstalling the version you don't want, and keeping the other. You can do that? I thought the new version overwrites the newer version. "We'll bring the sexy back to judging >_>." --Nadril Bleh, once I get off my lazy bum and go to Imageshack, there will be a picture here. ____
It should essentially "replace" IE6 with IE7 :-?
Cruiser
IE7 does replace 6 when it's installed, but can just as easily be removed through the Add/Remove Programs panel. Uninstalling IE7 automatically roles you back to IE6 (that's what happened with both machines I've removed it from). This is also why I don't let windows automatically install updates on it's own, it causes issues. :P
bmboy
Well, I'd rather not get into a browser battle, but IE is not so much what I'm used to, as it's what my mom's used to. I never upgraded to firefox/opera mainly for that reason, but hopefully now that she's forced to get used to IE7, i'll soon be able to switch. As for the moment, I can't uninstall either IE6 or IE7 without losing both. IE6 shouldn't even be on my computer, and uninstalling IE7 won't leave me with IE6, because most of IE6's functionality is gone. Because I have IE installed as an integrated part of windows, rather than a stand-alone program, neither one appears under the Add/remove programs box, but the generic title of "Internet Explorer" is in the Windows XP setup section. Unfortunately, uninstalling that leaves me with no IE, and re-installing it gives me IE7 back, but doesn't fix my problem. Any other ideas? PS. If anyone knows a way to stop IE7 from zooming in/out whenever I move the middle mouse wheel while holding control, that'd be nice too. I realize it's probably impossible to stop it, but it's kind of annoying.
Vito_Blade
Well just as a tip, you could always have FF/Opera installed. And then just let your mother use IE and you could use Firefox. Just make sure it doesn't set itself up as the default browser. I think it automatically asks that on startup every time until you turn it off. PhaperPlane
I use IE7 (FTW) and it seems to work fine, I don't know what the problem is, I just updated it this morning and it seems to be working fine for me, I think you should just re-install it if you can, otherwise, switch to another broswer
wooden_fire
You could use system restore because your computer should have set restore point before you installed IE7 or if not just find another restore point before IE7.
