Thats the range you with attack with multi spells, not sure about can you attack the monster stacked under you.

But he means if there were 100 people packed into those 9 squares, would it hit ALL OF THEM, or just the ones on the top of each square.

I used chinchompas at PC and all the monsters were stacked on one spot in front of the portal. When I attacked them I got pretty crazy damage per shot.
