im1knight
ok, im really tired of my lil bro just logon to my computer and turn off it without use Turn Off Your Computer option. its really annoying. i have set windows password so he cant logon to my account..but um, since he like to break my computer..he often pull the power out when its boosting. so is there anyway that i can set a password when computer is turned on? like a password before the screen that appears "windows xp" then the lil scroll thing running. if so, how? ashozzy2
Erm there is the way to set the computer so to start it you have to press Control Alt Delete, which takes you into a password screen. That should stop him.
Cruiser
Erm there is the way to set the computer so to start it you have to press Control Alt Delete, which takes you into a password screen. That should stop him. That involves letting windows boot, which he already said he doesn't want. There should be an option for a "Boot password" in the system BIOS (F-key when the computer boots, don't remember which exactly). This will prompt you for a password while the system boots and before windows starts loading. Be sure you remember what's set because you have to reset the BIOS to defaults to clear it. Darrel104
It will vary but i would try F2. It should say when you boot up your computer. Press it a few seconds after pressing the power button.
Hitman247m
It's usually F2 or F8
Kinslayer777
Or Del for me. F8 for startup mode/boot first selection & Del for Bios It should say somewhere in the boot tests.

Collective
Have you actually checked for yourself yet? 90% of computers say "Press to enter SETUP" when they are turned on. By far the most common key for desktop computers is Del(ete).
____
Depends on the manufacturer / bios itself. Mine have always been F8 (even at school / uni). Once in the BIOS you can set a password that you'll need to enter to even boot windows. Be warned however - that forgetting this will force you to hard reset your BIOS by changing the jumpers on the mother board. So try and make it something you wont forget in a hurry. dsavi
You can buy software that makes so the first thing you see when you turn your computer on is a password prompt. Theres one called Point Sec, but it's a little bit advanced...
