After clicking a rock once, click again at the same time your picaxe hits the rock for the second time. That doesn't work. You won't 1-hit coal that much, even at high levels, but mining coal to superheat mith, addy, or rune becomes pretty decent mining experience around level 75-80. Not even lv 100 (cape) :( You only have a very high chance of 1 hitting it though Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.
