A foolproof* way to stop macroers/autoers!

Featured Replies

~~*I say foolproof as I have not yet thought of a way to get round this. But I'm open to suggestions of how it can be avoided~~

I was thinking about the increase in autoers and macroers, and how they are still around even with random events. So, I thought about a new random event that would stop them dead in their tracks! Introducing:

The tourist!

For this random event, a tourist will appear and will ask you for help and a popup will automatically appear, in which you have to type out a sequence of letters and numbers from a picture (I dare say the whole game is a picture :P), and if you do it correctly, you will be given a lamp "souvenir" the tourist doesn't want anymore, but if you don't answer correctly, you will have to try again!

This means that it will stop people from whatever they are doing (in other words stopping autoers and macroers), but giving a worthwile reward for the trouble! Also, if you log out or auto-log out, when you log back in the tourist will still be there, which means accounts controlled completely by bots will not be able to do anything until the tourist has been helped.

Pictures coming soon, but what do you think? Oh, and by the way, don't flame.

It'd work just like all current random events then. Do you see the random events completely stopping autoers? No. Yes, if they were more common autoers would be stopped, but who wold want to enter a code every time you walk a few squares? Sorry, but it'd be annoying for regular players, and wouldn't help the autoer situation much.

So you mean like the sleeping bag text in rs classic?

Autoers found a good way around it 8-)

i dont think there will ever be a random to stop autoers, they are so complex they can get around basically anything you throw at them. I will admit this would stop them for a couple weeks until there programmars made them immune to this random as well.

No offence to the creator of the thread, but but this random would be unnecessary. It's just because of the popup thing. It may stop mentally disabled people but not autoers.

Ooh, I got one. Make it so if you're randomly walking around the tzhaar big red tough guy comes. He teleports you to tzhaar arena. Here players can watch you. Sometimes the NPC spectators can throw rocks and hit 5's on you. They can also throw peanuts (Spongebob refference). Then all of a sudden, after a minute "Here comes Tz-Tok-Jad!" comes, and Jad comes walking out of a large obsidian door. He starts owning you because you are tied down and weaponless. When you have 1hp left Jad asks you for 100k gp, and if you don't have it, he will take everything you have, burn it for an alternate fuel source, then kill you and you go back to lumby or fally. But every time you die at lumbridge after this event, you automatically get a poison which doesnt wear off unless you drink a super strong antipoison potion.

Another event is the lonely baker who wanders around runescape giving out cakes and bread, but 75% of the time that bread is loaded with poison or a miniature King black dragon that grows very large out of the cake and burns you in one hit. THen when you go back to lumby, a steam locomotive comes out of the ocean near lumby and runs you ever and everyone in your path.

Hehe the look on peoples faces when that happens.

And what if your fighting the Daganoth Kings and you need to kill the mage before the ranger respawns or you will have both at once (just a random example i have no clue if they spawn near eachother or what) because you have mage pray on? You waste your time on this.. the ranger spawns...You get this.. BAM bye bye guthan helm, spear, crystal bow, load of death and mind runes, fury, all the super restores, sara brews, and those 2 dragon axes you just got from drops.

Note:this is just an example, it would be horrible in literally every combat situation.

I think it's a pretty cool idea. it would just have to be on non-combat skills.

maybe if the tourist somehow uses a spell to stop the autoer from running away...

That "foolproof" jab hurts me right here *points at heart*

But seriously, the pop-ups could probably be avoided, and macroers would find a way around them in a few weeks. Nice idea, but no support.

The code in my sig should say 1032 not 0132.

Smashing Idea!! it'll b a good excuse for jagex to remove a few of those "random events" they have now... U should make the gifts vary from bronze daggers to dragon shields... And make the lamp tradeable

drapit.png

Seems like a good idea, but it won't work. Don't know if you addressed this but, why can't they just close the window? What about pop-up blockers? It's too easy to get around, and one web page can't control all those pop-ups, escepecially once it has been closed.

Okay, so I seemed to have confused everyone with the pop-up thing. What I meant was like the MOM strange box, where you have to answer the question. However, there will be no close button, so people cannot get round it and will not be able to control their character until they have entered the code. Also, this random event will only be triggered by non-wilderness mining, woodcutting etc. (like current skill randoms), and the lamp will help out a lot for people training skills.

make the lamp tradeable
Well, if the current lamps are tradeable, then yes, but if not, no. I intend these lamps to be exactly the same as the genie ones, as they can be incorporated as "souvenirs" the tourist was given and no longer wants.
