Jaziek
The most useless stupid bunch of trained monkeys on the face of the earth!!! I HATE THEM ALL !!! I AM GONNA BLOW UP THE TECH GUYS CALL CENTRE!! [developmentally delayed]ed pea brained idiots!! I KNOW MORE THAN THOSE PEOPLE!! ok... iv got my rant out of the way.. now.. my main PC has just had its HDD replaced and the Wifi and lan seem to be malfunctioning, as well as various other drivers. Every time i try to view wireless or LAN connections windows explorer crashes and asks me to send an error report. Theres no getting round it. I have system restored multiple times. 4, 5, 7 ed twice and even replaced the hard drive. to no avail.. i cannot think of anything that would survive that, and then only affect something as minor as my wifi.. any ideas? and also - feel free to vent your anger about tech support idiots here... steveinater
this may seem stupid but if it keeps crashing are you shore you have the required ddr ran memory required to keep everything working if yes then, i would suggest re-installing the software updating everything required so you know have the newest one. also what operating system are you using? (98, xp, vista or and apple computer....etc)

It would have nothing to do with the registry. It sounds like something to do with the drivers. Check and make sure you have the latest (and the correct) drivers installed. Get the driver directly from the manufacturer's website. When updating drivers make sure you un-install the previous driver from add/remove programs and then install the new one. Always restart when told to do so.
Jaziek
drivers are fully up to date. i think its an OS problem, ive put it into the shop for diagnostics as per request of the call centre idiots. have to wait and see what they come up with. Parabola
If you suspect an OS problem why not save time and reinstall windows yourself? For the time it will be at the shop you might as well do it yourself - it will be quicker and cheaper (if you have to pay for them to look at it). Even an inexperienced user can install windows, it's stupefyingly simple. The installer is made for laypeople (the clever people have already orchestrated an unattended install with nLite or similar).

"well, we need to run some checks.. are you sure it's plugged in?"
Parabola
I meant reinstall windows from scratch. Though since it's pre-bought I assume they didn't even give you a windows disc.
Jaziek
im pretty sure a 457 constitutes a windows reinstall
Parabola
In my 15 years of computing I've never heard the term '457' before - would you care to explain it to me? Also, if you are using a recovery disc you are not reinstalling windows. You are ghosting the same image onto your disc - if that image is flawed then your newly ghosted image will be flawed, no matter how many times you do it. Jaziek
457 to execute commands 4 5 and 7 on the basic recovery disc interface - completely format the drive create a new user partition install windows (no additional apps or drivers, but i have the update discs with all factory shipped apps and drivers on so i can get them back)
DaN
To be fair to Tech support people, most problems are caused by users The most useful bit of advise you can get out of a user is what they were doing just before the problem occured. Users generally dont admit to doing something stupid (I know I dont) ~Dan64AuSince 27 Aug 2002
