tojima
gold sucks for smithing if you want to conserve money, at least with steel bars you can get some of your money back. gold ore sells for 580ish, bars for about 180. you will hardly get any money back. with steel you wont get much back either, but way more than gold. gold does give good exp on members, but on free... not alot of options. use the smithing calc to see if 61k steel bars will get you near 99 http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=616130 <--- Guide for Cheap 99 Firemaking

You can craft into gold ammys for 30exp each, Giving a massive amount of crafting exp. But, You should only do this if you have the money to spare. However, It sounds like your don't. slayer987654
Well your in luck, if you want to do that it it costs under 40mil... and over 30mil, I dont know the exact number, just buy a bunch at 600ea. So I should: Sell my two santas that I bought when they were 1-1.5mil. Get 42 mil. Buy 61428 steel bars and make them all into steel plates. I'll end up with 12285 Steel plates. That will get me to 99? How much do plates alch for? I can't remember it's been so long.

That could buy me 61428 steel bars... Can anyone give me some ideas on what I could do? Good news: 43 million would actually get you about 71K steel bars (using 600 gp as a price), not 61K. Bad news: 71K Bars * 37.5 = 2,662,500 XP = 12,780,000 gp when alched (900 gp = =1.2K-300 for nats) 21.3k Bars * 37.5 = 798,750 XP = 3,834,000 gp when alched After 2 rounds, you're looking at 3.46 million xp. In the end, you might get about 4 million XP with it, give or take 100K.
slayer987654
So... how many magic lvls do you think I could go up?
Goobore
Hello I need 12,843,986 XP to get to 99 smithing... Can anyone give me some ideas on what I could do? To get the exp that you need, you need: -- to smelt 228,338 gold ores with the goldsmithing gauntlets, or -- to smelt and smith 233,528 steel "ores", or -- to smith 342,507 steel bars, or -- to smelt 570,844 gold ore For a F2P player, steel bars are probably the best way to go. But at 600 gp (or more) per bar it's gonna cost you at least 205 million. So, your 43 million is not gonna do it. If you already had 68,502 nature runes then your cost would be "only" 123 million. Another possibility is to get 85 mining and then use the runite ore to pay for steel bars. Each ore would buy about 20 bars, (750 smithing exp) My final comment is, "Why?" 99 smithing takes a lot of time, effort, and money just to be able to make the 3rd best armor in the game. There are over 545 players that can make full rune gear so prices are barely above their hi alch values. If you want to make money then I suggest mining. You only need to get to 85 and the raw ore sells for a litttle less than the bar itself. Hope this helps
Goobore
I'm willing to spend my 42 mil on bars..... It's worth it in the long run, rune smithing is very profitable. True, after you have spent about 200 million gp getting 99...
Goobore
So... how many magic lvls do you think I could go up? Under what conditions? If you bought 342,510 steel bars and smithed them into 68502 steel plates, (99 smithing) then you could Hi-alch them for over 82 million gp and 4,452,630 million in magic exp. (reaching 89.84 magic) If you spent 43 million gp buying 71,665 steel bars, then you could make 14,333 steel plates. That would Hi-alch for 17.2 million gp and 931,645 in magic exp. That would raise your magic exp to 1,744,405. That's a gain of 7.72 levels to level 78.7 magic Hope this helps

True, after you have spent about 200 million gp getting 99... Eh, it's only about 40 mil that I need to get to 99.. and with only 40 mil, you'll need to buy steel bars at around 130gp each... check out the skill calculator on the tip it website. it lists how many steel bars you'll need to get to 99. according to it, you WILL need around 200 mill for steel bars if the steel bars cost around 500-

Sargas
Well Ive got a different Idea. This one would get you all the way to 99 and you would break even! Iron Bars: Buy for 200ea. Smith into Iron Knives and sell on forums for 40ea. Each iron bar makes 5 knives and selling at 40 would get you your money back. I was trying to determine your level and I would guess about level 56 smithing. At this level you must buy and smith 513,760 Iron bars into knives. This process would take quite a while. Another downside to this is I dont see many ppl selling iron bars in mass quantities at 200ea. If you willing to lose some money buy at 250ea. You will get alot more trades at this price. Also dont buy all the bars you need at once b/c you wont have enough money. Buy like 10k at a time. Buy 10k bars...smith 10k bars....Selling knives....And repeat. With this method you wont lose as much money as steel smithing. Just my thought.
