Cheapest place to buy nVidia 8600 GT

Featured Replies

If I remember correctly, the nVidia 8600 GT is the best GPU on the market right now... where can I get it for the absolute lowest price, and when buying online will shipping costs be very high?

I have one laying around here, want it?

GTX295 is the best card you can currently get...

If you really want one (if you live in Russia, sorry for this american site) EVGA 8600gt, 256mb, ddr2 - 50$

Otherwise you have the 9500gt, which performs a bit better than 8600gt MSI 9500gt, 512mb, ddr3 - 45$ after rebate

I'd go for the 9500gt... If you aren't really in love with the 8600gt.

Otherwise you have the 4670, which runs around 8600/9500gt in circles, and offers very good frame rates for it's price Powercolor 4670, 512mb, ddr3 - 55$ after rebate

If you like Nvidia, 9500gt or pay higher price for a better card. Otherwise i say go for a 4670.

Btw, what's your psu specs?

(not that any of these card are power hungry, but good to know)

No no no, you could do a lot better, it depends if your PC & PSU will handle it at the moment. There are many cards that outstrip the 8600gt by a long way for a slightly higher cost, but require a lot more power (watts) to run. A 295 may be the best card, but it'd be wasteful. If you want something really high end perhaps look for a GTX 280 or 285, quite expensive though. If you want something less power hungry and cheaper, the 9600GT looks to be good buy.

Actually the 8600gt is outdated. You'd be better off buying an 8800GT or even an Ati Radeon 4850 (if you have a PSU of at least 450 Watt)

8800GT is also outdated

The prices are not too bad I see. So GTX295 is currently the best (I am looking into getting a nVidia card, only, I don't want Radeon or anything else), right? Also GeForce series is better than Quadro, right?

Also I am not sure on my PSU specs, sorry.

Thanks for the info so far. :)

The easiest way to find out what wattage your PSU is just to open up your case and look at the sticker on the side. A GTX 295 is wasteful imo, if you want a very high end card I'd suggest a 280/285. It'll handle pretty much everything on highest specs, even Crysis.

Quadros are rendering cards so will perform poorly if you try to use them for games. Since you want a Nvidia card, Geforce is what you want.

Ok I will open my case tomorrow and look. Also I don't care if a 295 is "wasteful", I just want the best. Just like Russia having 16k nukes is "wasteful" but it's cool to have the power of destroying the planet a few hundred times. :) Thanks for info so far.

Really, you'd be better off with a single 280, or 2 of them in SLI. The GTX 300 series will be out later this year with Dx11 support for Windows 7, and yet more cards will come out after that making them 295 seem like a waste of money. You'll still be able to get 60fps or more on pretty much all games with either card. I found some prices on Newegg for both anyway:

XFX Geforce GTX 295 1792MB

- $509

BFG Tech Geforce GTX 280 1GB - $349 (CoD5 included free)

MSI Geforce GTX 285 1GB - $349 (CoD5 included free)

Post your cpu (+speed), ram (+speed) and your psu specs. Would be kinda stupid to buy a GTX285 if you have a E7200 for example. Also make sure you have enough space for card x in your case.

And as Dracion says, DX11 cards will be out later this year. So i think (without knowing your specs) perhaps a GTX260 (SP216) is your best option. DX10 cards will be able to play DX11, but with some features turned off.

Pricewatch for PC component comparison shopping. Pay attention to the store ratings and you'll be fine.

GTX 295 is also ~$520USD, you could get a whole PC with that money.

Currently I have a Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz processor, 1 GB ram (will upgrade to 2 soon) and 170 Watt power supply. And wow the GX295 are expensive.

I wouldn't even trust a 9500gt with those specs, atleast not the psu.

If you want anything better than a 9500gt (because of your specs, your parts will bottleneck any better card than the 9500gt). And the psu is too weak.

You'll need to upgrade your whole computer for anything better than a 9500gt, and even if you want that, you'll need a new psu.
