Good programme to delete other programmes?

Yeah, Norton went kicking and screaming through the door and left some body parts in my computer that i'm unable to get rid of. I was wondering if you guys have any reccomendations on a programme that removes left over parts easily. I know there's one, but i forgot the name, and googling "software deleter" shows me some random programmes that I dont feel safe downloading.

I have a util called "Die Norton Die" but it's at work, If I get the chance I will post it here for you when I get in later on.

There is the official Norton remover on there site, which seems to work albeit it takes a while.

I would also recommend you get CCleaner, which is great for removing extras left behind when you un-install programs.

Norton is up there with McAfee in the terms of irritability. Not only is the software extremely heavy and often doesn't pick up newest threats, it's a pain to remove & it conflicts with nearly every firewall on the market (and even some games).

CCleaner is good for removing leftover 'pieces' after uninstalling Norton, as mentioned already... That's if after running a removal tool, you still have problems. Even if you don't, it's a very useful tool, you should run it at least every few weeks or so. You wont just clean up your computer, but you'll get possibly hundreds/thousands of MB of hard-drive memory back after it deletes 'crap' from your computer.

jimmyw3000, I recommend not using any utility for removing the remaining parts of Norton... Instead, I recommend backing up your whole registry, and manually going in and removing the parts by hand, preferably with a sheet of paper (or two) next to you with a listing of all the keys that Norton would ever create in your registry. :geek:

(BTW, I know some people are going to go nuts... But, that's how I and someone else got rid of Norton here, and made sure it was really gone. Norton's tool didn't do the job back then.)

That's usually pretty good. Unzip and run the executable.

I'd second getting Ccleaner. It's helped me remove a lot of junk Norton left behind (stuff that even the brute force removal tool missed :?) and lots of other old files/registry entries that were no longer needed.
