Euthanization of the Disabled

As some of you may have noticed, in the Holocaust hate crimes thread, there is a debate going on about euthanization of the disabled. There are many sides to this story, and I'd like to know what others think.

It is my personal belief that we should euthanize the disabled and abort disabled fetuses (feti?). I speak only of severely debilitating diseases, not of diseases like, as we said in the other thread, ADD or depression.

No. It is morally reprehensible to allow a worthless human being to waste the resources that another person could use.

Opinions? And let's try to avoid flaming. Check out the Holocaust thread. MOST of the people there have been mature about this.

I'm a bit on the fence. I believe in Euthanasia for say, an old person dying from cancer, but it's a bit different to killing off a disabled child =/ It still has a life, it might not be as good as a 'normal' person's life, but it still is one and they're not necessarily worthless. But it makes sense in another aspect, the resources could be used on another person and it might be putting them out of their misery in a way. I'm not entirely sure.

Robert, why don't you learn to shut up? You've made a topic which you know is going to incite flames, and you think that by adding 1 sentence, people won't.

Please, give us a valid reason for your views. Disabled people can still function within society.

A disabled child can still bring happiness to the parents, who have no objections to caring for it, and they can grow to be functioning members of society.

It is morally reprehensible to kill those who are disabled. Frankly, there are clearly enough resources in the world to go around, so what? We kill someone and give someone else everything they would have used? I'm sorry, but I find that disgusting. If someone had to die, against their own wishes, just for others to live slightly better, I'm sure that any human being would be sickened.

That is basically what he is saying. Kind of the Nazi way of looking at things, minus the racism: kill all inferiors and we shall be a society of pure human beings.

This kind of thinking makes me sick. We shouldn't quantify worth of life and use it as a judgment of right to live.

How would you decide which severities of mental illness to euthanize? If one disease allows for the euthanization of the person then why can't another slightly less severe illness and one slightly less severe than that. You can't objectively choose which disease is worthy of death.

I would really watch your manner whilst posting, Robert_de_Sable. A simple line requesting no flaming is not sufficient enough when you are most definately going to insult individuals. Whilst your view may be that people with disabilities are "worthless", I'm pretty certain that vast majority of us do not wish to read such a view.
