A really long time ago (prior to RS2 beta, pre2002, etc...)

Wow I just started playing again a month ago, it's incredible how much has changed. I remember I first started playing RS in the second half of 7th grade, so it was probably early in 2001. (boy I wish I would have taken more screen shots, I'll have to check my old HD's to see if I have any... I know I have one where I was wearing a burnt meat-according to my inventory-)

Here is what I remember:

-My first account "ChefZawadzki" still exists somehow, but it was hacked a long time ago... I don't think it's used anymore, but I was somewhat known back in the day as someone who helped new players on the RS.com forums (prior to them becoming p2p only forums)

-I guess one of the most important differences was that Misthalin was the only Kingdom

-There was only f2p

-People were very excited and highly anticipated "player houses"

-I forget her name, but I remember I was there when the first Diamon Amulet of Power was crafted and enchanted

-There was no rune armor and the best weapon set was Addy Legs, Large, Long, Mith Plate, Ammy of Accuracy, blue cape(which was different from other capes, could only be bought at champs' guild), and Steel/Iron shields. (I dont even remember if Kite shields existed?)

-Speaking of addy long, it was a common scam to swap an iron long for addy when selling

-Phats were dropped and no one thought very highly of them at the time (man I should have held onto those!)

-Apple pies were the best food in the game

-There was no fishing, crafting, prayer (well that could do anything), herblore, thieving, agility, or runecrafting (obviously lol)

-When you started you could pick to be a miner, warrior, ranger, or adventurer? Something along those lines

-The Chefs' guild and Champions' Guild were the only guilds

-Raw meat was just raw meat, not specific to the animal

-There was no such thing as the wilderness because when creating a character you either picked PK or NONPK, you could switch back and forth two times.

-A lot of people had "newbie killer" accounts with low combat and high range stats (Cabage field of death near lumby)

-There were two huge clans, Messiah... (Messiah 12 I'm still after you :P even though you prob stopped playing years ago)

-Few servers

-You could press F10 or F11 to make the graphics worse (lines across the screen, but faster FPS)... FPS were shown in the bottom left corner

-Sometimes time would be lost! Wow I can't even imagine the OUTRAGE that would be heard if this ever happened again. What I mean is that sometimes a certain block of time (30 mins) would be "lost" and everyones' accounts would be reverted to before the loss of time

-Bluerose13x, tks? (I really can't remember his name, it was something like that), Lightning, and a few others were the premier players and contrary to what some believe Bluerose13x was not a bad person, I'm not sure if she even still plays/posts, but I remember talking to her through email a couple times, she was nice.

-mad4u689 actually played Runescape! (lol mad if you read this)

-There was this lady "Leza" who was very generous and I wish she still played, she was the nicest person on Runescape and many will never know about her or remember her

-When RS was expanded, people used to stand outside in a "line" near the Fally bank and try to look fashionable in phats, santas, black armor, rune, etc... (I saw this when I attempted another comeback)

-There were several glitches including a way to up prayer level very fast (although prayer level was useless back then) Also a fire could be made under the door in the basement in the varrock bank (unconfirmed: could walk into room and take the items)

-Items in Varrock Muesem (butchered spelling there lol) were addy

-Black Knight's Quest cheat was very popular... I remember me and my friends (on my old account ChefZawadzki, not Fusion X) would make 3-5 dummies at once to do the BKQ! (2500 gp reward)

-People on the old RS.com forum made a HUGE stink and fuss when the tilda "~" wasn't allowed to be displayed in the ingame chat

-Kill/booty(lol) stealing was so common, it was often worthless to fight npcs for their goods b/c people could stand inbetween a player and the npc and wait for the drop

This list is longer than I orginally thought, sorry! I know there is stuff I am forgetting, I will edit when I remember! Also, it's great to be back and although I'm almost 18 now I still find RS very addictive and FUN! Hopefully this will be a good community to once again become a part of.

Always good to see an alumni still playing. Too bad I don't remember those glory days, back when RS was good.

However, I do recall the player selection screen, and about a week before I signed up, they took half of that stuff out.

I agree with your thoughts on everything, I wish I wouldve kept those old screenshots of bugs and stuff, it would be very fun to show them today, its nice to see people like you anyway :wink:

Wow, that was pretty long, but i actually enjoyed reading it all! It's good to see original runescape players still around and i like the part when u mention how you are still after Messiah 12... well i hope you like the new runescape these days!

i know almost all of it , i cant remember the time where there was no rune (proberly because i wasn't more than lvl 30) and i dont recall the phats being dropped either =/ but that was proberly because me and friend just stayed around lumbrigde fighting goblins and cows (thats why i was lvl 30 =) ... )

but i would have been 11-12 back then .. so i proberly didn't look at what people was trading.. but we also had alot of breakes (we were real friends)

OMG! Finally someone who understands my pain and feels the exact way I do! I'm just like you, been around since Jan. 2001, and I'm ashamed of what the games came out to be. I'm extremely proud of Paul, Andrew, Ian, Mark and everyone else at Jagex who make this game better... but the people have gone down hill. When I first started playing there were like, what, MAYBE 80 total people. Everyone stole iron daggers to sell at the general store to get money, everyone constantly held clan wars at as you said, "the cabbage field of death", amen died many of times there, and outside the Varrok bank, died there many of times too--

There were also the two main clans, Sabre's and Messiah, I was neither so I was constantly owned by both sides, countlessly mining coal and being killed because of PK/Non-Pk and I got stuck, PK!! Now everyone today is about.. OMG Ch00b I'm l33tzor cause I have better skills than you!~! I'm ashmade when I hear ppl talk like that, I've played since January 2001 and I have 1143 skill total w/ 86 combat, whoopdi do. I get out and do other things with my life and try to have some fun. People need to stop ranting for updates, actually, I think people would enjoy rs MUCH more the way it originally started. Varrok, Lumbridge-- ANTICIPATING the vampire slayer quest at draynor, no al khaird, no draynor bank, no fishing, herblore, theving, rc and such-- No faldor either, no banks period for a while, pk/non-pk, no rune, good/evil magic, prayers that were useless, YEA STOP COMPLAINING PEOPLE--

my rl friend was playin jagex checkers when this game first came out...then he played it right when the site came back up after the huge update of this "RUNESCAPE"

and he still plays today...

Yeah, I'm pretty nostalgic as well. I think what I miss most is that the community was smaller, and the moderators and Andrew and Paul actually were able to keep in contact with the community. That was nice! :D But as the community has expanded, I've met lots of great people, so that's cool.

Btw, I don't care about Messiah 12. Messiah 14 and Messiah 21 are mine :| Although eventually I became friends with the guy who'd been Messiah 14, despite his many attempts to kill me over and over again when I was stuck as PK... so uhh, whatever...

I had problems with bluerose when she got in a fight with Kalikachu... but yeah, she was cool enough... and Lightning is still one of the most awesome RS players :D

Btw, if you want to get in touch with Leza, I have her on livejournal and such :) She's having a baby btw! :D

I remember those days all too well. I started in March 2001. And for your records it was Mysticsmagic who made the first diamond amulet :P I bought one for well over 100k, and a week later Hiana could craft them and they costed next to nothing. :twisted:

Yeah, but you can tell it from their fairy tales of "party hats were dropped" (they came in crackers, they weren't dropped directly) and "rune was purple" (the only thing rune that was purple was the rune 2 hander and Andrew had the only one, no such thing as purple rune armor) and "I started in 1999 (Came out in Jan. 2001). :)

Like I said there, that's some interesting stuff you have to say. Some of it I was through, but a lot was before my time, and eveyone loves hearing about it. What are your opinions on how runescape is now compared to back then?

I missed some of that. I started playing in December of 2001. I was a no-name though. I doubt anyone I met back then would remember me.

Sorry I remember; I confused you with the guy called "Oldmanschild" that had a character of some sort with the number 6 at the end of the name. 8) Either way your name is pretty familiar. But you probably remember OMC too. He used to post on the old boards (especially PK'ing) when people like Wargazme, Angel2002 (I wicked I), LKJ, L6vi were still working their way up to the higher levels.

I remember those "class" things.. I think my account (korp) is a adventurer..

I started playing in June or July of 2002 (hence my name). I also remember how you got to choose the type of player you will be. I am, and always will be, an Adventurer =D

It's sad to think that tons of people on RuneScape shall never get this option to choose. Although it makes no difference now, I'm glad I was around back then. Now that Tutorial Island is out, people learn how to do everything. All I got was an axe, a tinderbox, and 10 hp (which I think was higher than normal when starting out). I don't recall anything else I got. Those were the days.

I remeber picking what class I wanted to be, I picked adventurer (or what ever it was called). I remember when you saw someone in full rune, you respected them. I remember when I went down into the varrock sewers at level 20 and died from the deadly red spiders >_<. Jeeze, them goood old days....Oh yeah, back when the dragon was level 110

Yuppers, there was the rune purple large helm too...

Here's an SS I took when Paul showed up on a "board troll" party. Ganja Rasta is the same person as Fook A Ji, btw.

In case anyone is interested, here's the other SS I'm quite proud of... with Andrew announcing that on his list of things to do, Wilderness is quite a priority... it didn't come out until months later, btw :P
