ajpablo Posted January 13, 2005 Share Posted January 13, 2005 my rl friend was playin jagex checkers when this game first came out...then he played it right when the site came back up after the huge update of this "RUNESCAPE" and he still plays today... i miss jagex multiplayer games. i had a rating of like 180 but i dreamed of making it on the high scores. except slime wars is all i was good at. slime wars is awesome. iw ish i still could play it. it always says they took it down for repair and then they never brought it back. last time they said they were fixing it, they just removed the chat. Orange_Juice_Box Posted January 13, 2005 Share Posted January 13, 2005 I understand fully all I was one of the first players to play this god forsaken game aswell... i remmber times were there was only 1 server on this game and it was never above 2000 people lagged horribly... and yes i remember the evil cabbage patch in lumby... How many times i was killed by newb killers and who knows what else i miss those times... runescape was such a different game then than what it is now. I remember the first drops of items.. and yah knowone even cared about the value of those phats we all just wore them cause it was neat... first drop of rare items. i also remember feeling a somewhat feeling of richness when i first reached 100k cash... but those days are over...But im still playin Shout out there for anyone that remembers S H A R K back then one of the best miner smithers we had in this game usto be by that guys side all the time... I even remember an old password for that account from like 4 years ago lol oh yah if anyone reads this and wonders ifthey possibly remember me from back then i had characters by the names of Pears Big pears pearson and now im known as defiantbrave because of who knows how many times we all (all us orriginal players) back in the original Runescape got each and every one of our accounts stolen :P Even with all the new gimicks and all the new stats and all the incredibly devoted players i still rate this game #1 as an online rpg game Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
sixpacked Posted January 13, 2005 Share Posted January 13, 2005 lol yeh i made my "sixpacked" account in like late 2001 (september i think) kinda hard to prove since i didnt know about the "print screen" to take screen shots but anyway...i do remember choosing to be a warrior or something like that but the funny thing was i quit after 10 minutes because i couldnt figure out how to walk :? lol. But yeah because the only games i had ever played were ones that used the directional buttons (under del, end etc..) So there i was for about ten minutes hitting every button on the keyboard trying to make my character do something when i finally gave up and hit the X button to close it. after a few weeks i decided to try again and after a while i figured out that the mouse was used (yeh i know im a [wagon]) so yeh i played for like a week afraid to leave lumby and i remember trying to trade things like pots etc for like full iron cause i saw some lvl 60 wearing it at the time... lol he was a noob when i think about it but anyway, some guy walks up to me and said he would upgrade my iron dagger and wooden shield for for free so i gave them to him and he logged out. the dog scammed me. i just turned my comp off and went inside and watched television and quit playing for like a year or lik 9 months or something. since then ive really been on and off with rs playing for like 4-5 months then stop playing for a while etc. hey btw u should add the fact that you didnt need a cetain combat lvl to wield armour or weapons... u could be lvl 1 attack and still wield a rune weapon i logged in one day and found out that i couldnt use my mith battle axe cuz my att was like 14 or 15 or someshat dam thats a long post :D Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Lol, I was too scared to venture outside of Lumby for fear of being pked. (I chose to be a Pker when they had the option), and always got attacked in the Varrok General store where I was usually chased back into lumbridge. The second floor of Lumbridge Castle actually allowed players to PK each other once inside. I would sit in one of the rooms and wait for someone to walk in and I would bash them for 5 minutes with my iron short sword and bronze chain mail. I also remember killing goblins at the goblin hut to get thier iron daggers and sell them at the sword shop in varrok. Lol, it was a pain in the behind to get online, cuz there were only 2 servers, and I'd sit and wait (constantly clicking log in) in hopes that someone would log out. Man, those were the days. I DID however, meet the character named 'Lightning' (was scared he'd swat me like a fly) when he was like level 90 I believe. I said, "wow, you are a very strong person." Lightning replied, "lol." *feels n00bish now* :oops: lol. Anywho, I loved the game back then, even though it was crappy and all, I had never played an online multiplayer game before and it was a whole new mysterious world. (made lots of good freinds, and helped E.A.R.T.H. fight the Sabres clan after much flaming on the RS Official forums- when they still had them). Got involved with clans at combat level 34, and have been in them ever since. Man, RS was great fun and very mysterious back then. Sandytrain .. goneril(i belive she was first to craft the diamond amulet.. ) , Dmonik ... Mctavish.. Lady lynda (wah I love her :P), and lots more but those are the only specific ones i can remember their name right now. -You forgot about "Server Status",later on another hiscore table from 1 ~ 2000? which was so annoying because you had to search for yourself your place and couldnt like now just write the name. -Hmm... *Click* pickaxe , *Use pickaxe on...* rock.. same goes for fishing , so hard to level back then. -Hmm when choosing "ranger" when you created a new char you would get 10 arrows. people abused it and created many characters and just drop transferred. -Could weild at combat lvl 3 any armor and any weapon from any kind untill this was fixed..(after it got fixed, those who still had armor on before the update at low lvl could still go around and show off with it, if they got it off they couldnt weild back ..later on Jagex stripped everyone according to that little bug in the last update) -Hmm i dont think anyone mentioned it yet ... Could put only up to 65k in a trade ... so if you bought something over 65k you needed to make 2 trades. Shout out there for anyone that remembers S H A R K back then one of the best miner smithers we had in this game There were rumors it was paul gower character .. *I have pictures from the old rs.com forums and lots of more pics not so intersting from back then , Ill post them whenever i find time to connect the old computer and just transfer it to my new one right now. Shai Posted January 15, 2005 Share Posted January 15, 2005 yes, something like that. hmm i dont know if its that old but it still counts for me : -Addy plate cost 40k. -blue cape was +2 defense. red and black cape were just capes with no stats ..there were only 3 cape colors back then. -Strength potions were orginaly purple. -*Dont know if this true* but ive heard back then on a knife trick that you could weild knives and hit hard, and if you weilded too many it would kill you. -You could weild anything if you clicked *weild* on a weildable item and then quickly drop it so it weilded the next item in line in your inventory, wasnt matter which item it was. I used to never do anything with bones because i didnt know you could bury them, but when i realized you could i would bury all my bones behing the bridge in fally, and go back later to try to find them. Couldnt find them, and that made me angry so i never got anymore prayer. I was one of those who got addy when i first came out, and got a square when they first got smithed (had some connections) My origional char got stat/item wiped for automining for 2 days (started doing it right before the big wipe, unluky) Was at like 82 mining then -.-. I remember some 1200 or 1300 total skill char got wiped, forgot his name, its on the tip of my tounge but i cant think of it. He was a top 5 overall player. Heres a funny pic for you all, its not fake either. I logged on one day stranded in the wildy few months after i got my rune. Duno if larges were out at this point, i think they were. If the file size is too big photobucket gonna auto resize it so it might look crappy. I got killed to, quit for a few months after flaming in posts. Man it hink im going to go back to rsc, i miss it too much and dislike rs2 soooo much. The game is too big and its on fun anymore. Runesaper Posted January 17, 2005 Share Posted January 17, 2005 I didnt read this entire thread but felt I would comment anyway. I too am an RS senior citizen. I started playing back in early 2001. The game has changed a lot, the people who play the game have changed a lot. The entire game was a lot more "packed" if you could call it that. There were much more known clans and groups. This was because there were so few players. You didnt have to read a forum to know a lot about what went on in runescape. The mod's were much more user friendly from what I have seen lately. You knew who the mods were, you knew the mods. Hell a lot of us were pretty good friends with the mods. Im not saying that people arent anymore, its just back then it seemed more common. Manager was the cool moderator (who I still speak to on a pretty often basis) and rs guide didnt seem as well liked. I remember lezas organization type of deal. This was a huge thing, many of the more famous players were involved in this. They were given donations very often and the donations would be given out in games I do believe. I, and many others were known as the runescape board trolls. Basicly what we did was piss andrew gower off a lot. He pushed us to the off topic forum which kind of sucked. Eventually the board trolls died out due to the removing of the forum and we all kind of just spread out. I think the removal of the forums has changed the game in a huge way. That was a major turning point, after the forums were taken out the website was changed etc. Also, andrew gower use to have a lot of multi player mini games on the runescape website. These were pretty cool 3d games, connect four, just simple things. Also, if any of you want a blast from the past, visit http://www.archive.org and check out some of the old stuff that was posted on the forums and the classic runescape website if you have never seen it. The quality of the game and the quality of the players has gone down a lot. To me, and I think to a lot of people, runescape wasnt as much of a game as it was a community in a made up world. The game was a lot less commerical. You didnt see people selling 5000 coal ore very often, not that I remember at least. There were a lot of events that took place in RS which were pretty big, birthday parties being one of them. Probably the most famous birthday party was none other than justin chrono. Anyone who was there probably will remember this, was pretty cool. Im not sure if they have them anymore, but, there use to be drop parties. A player would drop a ton of expensive or atleast Ok items which party attenders could grab up. This was a simply awesome thing. Again, there was more of a sense of community than competition. Most of you have probably never seen the actual original runescape. Rs classic is not the original. The original was really really bad. Andrew gower at one point posted some screen shots for people to see. So much more, so little time. If you want to find some old RS pics with some known people check out "runescape hidden camera" I think its somthing like that. An old website. Edit - Also, soon after the forums were removed the gowers implemented a weird chat filter, it was messed. It was so buggy. EditEdit- If anyone can remember, there was a point where I was black holed. Being black holed was basicly having your character in complete darkness in a knowwheres land. Some people were put on the second level in the game and could walk around, I wasnt unfortunetly. I was also muted for about three months. I was pretty known for the black hole incident, after a forum post and many replies they un-holed me and set me free. EditEditEdit - At one point as the game was rapidly deterorating many players but their hopes in a new free game, planeshift. They released the game with no actual objectives, you could just walk around. Then slowly added on to it, really really lame. I know the last I heard the servers were horrible and it took like 5 hours on cable to download the game, not because of the file size but because of the server suckage. I've seen Runescape come and go, worlds be created...I remember hearing people selling rune two-handers for..what was it? 1.5 mil? or for a rune kite/battle. Those were the days, when I was level 30 and saw the first rune plates being worn, when black knights had been the hardest to fight. I HATE the runescape players nowadays, who are level 70 after three weeks and then laugh because I'm 82. Makes me sick to my stomach.
