This is a guide for ARENAscape's new players.
#A1. What is ARENAscape?
ARENAscape is a text based browser game, designed by Silverion. It is originally based on the game Runescape (www.runescape.com) by Andrew Gower, but has gradually evolved beyond that.
#A2. Ads/Banners
Please try to click one or two banners a day to help keep the game running. Silverion, the creator of the game, pays for the server out of his own pocket! So please, click one or two banners and let it load - all help is appreciated!
#A3. Getting Started
To start things off, you need to access the ARENAscape webpage at http://www.arenascape.net. You will see the news if you go down a little on the page.
You must first sign up for a new character to play. To do this, click the 'Create New User' link, or http://www.arenascape.net/new_user.php. Fill out the application, with a one thing in mind:
Enter a valid email address. If you do not, you will not be able to change your password. You will need this to identify yourself if you are having account problems.
#A4. Logging In
After creating a character for the game, go back to the login screen to log onto the game. Type in your username/password, and you will enter the game. Note:Names and passwords are CASE SENSITIVE! If your name is BoneCrusher, you must type in BoneCrusher to log in. Bonecrusher or bonecrusher will NOT WORK.
Once you are logged in, you will see the control panel. If you are a first time player, you will need to create a character. Fill out the form and tada, you've entered the world of ARENAscape. Keep in mind:
(Whatever you choose to begin as does not necessarily affect what you can become in the game. You may start as a wizard, but may, in fact, become a warrior later on in the game.)
This screen shows the status of all your characters and their stats. An explanation of all the buttons:
Two Swords: Click this to play with the selected character.
Arena: This looks like a brown wall. Click this to send the selected character to the Arena. Why? You may have up to 4 characters at one time, but only 2 may be in the Arena (active) at any given time. To swap characters, you must send your characters to the barracks.
Barracks: Unused characters are sent here. It takes 7 days to complete the move.
#A5. The Arena Yard
Congratulations! You got this far. After you log in, you will see the ARENA yard. This is where you navigate and do all your crazy little actions. You may choose to go to any of these places:
Training Yard: Come here and train your character using saved up experience.
Items Arena:Need a new item? Fight for it!
Clans HQ:(Under Construction) Where you can check on your vassals (followers), leaders, and your clan.
Dueling Arena:Where you can engage in player vs. player fights.
Monster Dens:Fight monsters here +5 to -10 levels based on your own combat level.
Mirror Room:Fight yourself! Are you up to it?
#A6. First Fights
If you look at your 'status box', you will notice that you start off with 0 experience. To earn experience, you will need to start off fighting monsters - the Kitchen Backyard is best for beginning players. Click the link for Kitchen Backyard, located on the left side of the page.
Once you get inside, the fighting already begins! The whole fight is displayed for your pleasure, until you reach level 10 (when it will stop showing the whole fight, and show you an abbreviated version). If you won the battle, you will see that you earned experience, and possibly fame. Do this a couple of times, and gather a good amount of experience (At least 200 is a good total). Then click the link 'Return to Arena Yard' (or press the letter R on your keyboard).
#A7. Using Your Experience/Training
After you've accumulated some experience, it is time to use it to train your character and make it stronger. Click the link for 'Training Yard' (or press T on your keyboard) at the Arena Yard page to get to the Training Screen.
Here, you will see boxes with information relating to your character. (Name, level, free experience, experience needed for next level, etc.) To increase one level in a particular stat, simply type a "1" in the box for which ever stat you would like to raise. (Type 2 into the box to raise 2 levels, etc.) Click the box marked "Train" and wait for the page to load. (DO NOT CLICK THIS TWICE!) Tada! You're stronger.
#A8. Specialization/Low Skill Bonuses
If you wish, you may choose to 'specialize' in particular stats, such as magic, prayer, or attack. This will give you a bonus in the specific skill, but in turn, will lower the amount of experience you are able to use for your other stats (support skills).
To get a "spec", you must raise the desired stat to at least +7 your combat level. For example, if I am level 20 and I want to have 2* attack (2 rank), my attack level must be 27 (20+7). To have 3* attack, I must have level 31 attack (20+11). To earn this though, you must sacrifice your other skills and let them lag behind while you raise your attack level. A list showing the required levels to get a specialization:
+7 = 2 Rank
+11 = 3 Rank
+14 = 4 Rank
+16 = 5 Rank
+18 = 6 Rank
+19 = 7 Rank
You may also decide to neglect 3 skills - magic, prayer, and range - and get bonuses for doing so. You will be weaker in the neglected skill, but will be stronger in another. To get these low skills, your prayer, magic, OR range must be at or under one half of your combat level. For example, if I am level 30, I will have a low magic bonus if my magic level is 15 or lower (30/2 = 15). Below are the bonuses you can receive:
Low Magic = +1 spec in Strength, magic attack will be overpowered by enemies.
Low Prayer = +1 spec in Defense, prayer aura is weaker than peers.
Low Range = +1 spec in HP, bow has only a 5% accuracy rate (meaning your arrow will probably miss!).
These low skill bonuses add specs onto your character. If you have 2* strength and low magic, you will have 3* strength. (This 2* + Low Magic combination will not be as strong as a regular 3* strength; your base strength level will be lower than that of a 3* strength, but you will be stronger than a 2*). If you have no spec in strength with low magic, it will be equivalent to 2* strength.
What do each of these specs do?
Attack spec: Raises accuracy. 3* or higher will be able to initiate DOUBLE ATTACK.
Defense spec: Raises evasion and decreases damage taken from other players. 3* or higher will be able to initiate COUNTER ATTACK.
Strength spec: Raises maximum damage of your attacks. 3* or higher will be able to initiate CRUSHING BLOW (2x damage)
HP spec: Gives extra hit points in battle to the player. 4* or higher will gain extra strength specs. (Extra str spec = Hits spec - 2) You will gain 1/6 more HP per spec.
Magic spec: Increases magic damage and decreases enemy magic damage. 4* or higher will be able to initiate ANIMATION (magically creates a weapon for that fight)
Prayer spec: Increases the power of the prayer aura, both for reflecting and healing.
Range spec: Increases the power of range damage in battle, increases amount of bleeding damage inflicted onto enemy.
#A9. Special Abilities
If a player is specialized in a skill, they may be able to do certain Special Attacks.
3* Attack and Above: You are able to do double attacks.
3* Strength and Above: You are able to do Crushing Blow (2x damage)
3* Defense and Above: You are able to do Counter Attack, ONLY after blocking your enemy's attack (which gives you another chance to attack).
Note: If you have a 2* strength, and have low bonus, you will be able to do Crushing Blows. The low magic bonus acts as a strength spec (2* + 1* = 3*)
4* Magic and Above: You are able to animate a weapon, much stronger than your current one. Gives a boost in attack, defense, and strength. You do not cast your first round spell, however. There is no way to disable animation at the moment.
4* Hits and Above: You gain extra strength specs, according to the formula:
Quote
Bonus Str Spec = Hits Spec - 2
#A10. Magic (Offensive)
Magic is cast in battle three times; once before any melee fighting, once in the 3rd round, and once in the 6th round.
- You may only cast a spell if you have at least level 5 magic.
- Having a higher magic level than your opponent will increase your magic damage and decrease their magic damage.
- Low magic bonus gives an "invisible" spec in strength.
Every 10 levels after level 5 will get you a new magic spell: (For players without a magic spec)
Level/Spell Name
5 Wind Strike
15 Water Strike
25 Earth Strike
35 Fire Strike
45 Wind Bolt
55 Water Bolt
65 Earth Bolt
75 Fire Bolt
85 Wind Blast
95 Water Blast
105 Earth Blast
115 Fire Blast
125 Deep Freeze
135 Melting Rain
145 Small Meteor Strike
155 Meteor Strike
165 Large Meteor Strike
175 Huge Meteor Strike
185 Small Meteor Rain
195 Medium Meteor Rain
205 Meteor Rain
215 Large Meteor Rain
225 Huge Meteor Rain
235 Disintegrate
245 Disintegrate II
255 Disintegrate III
265 Disintegrate IV
275 Vorpal Matrix
285 Ishtar's Revenge
295 Poke of Doom
305 (No Spell Name Yet)
315 (No Spell Name Yet II)
*Note: If you have a spec in magic, you will be able to cast higher spells than you would be normally.
How do you determine what you'll cast with a specialization in magic?
salamander said:
1. take your magic level.
2. take one away from your specialisation rank and multiply that by 10.
3. add the two numbers to get your overall magic level which will then tell you what you can cast
So basically, the formula is:
Your Magic Level + [(Your mage spec -1)*10]
So if you had level 25 magic with 3*, you would be casting level 45 magic (Wind Bolt). 25 + (3-1)*10 = 45
#A11. Prayer (Defensive/Offensive)
Prayer is healing magic. You cast an aura before the battle, both for offensive and defensive properties. It can heal your wounds after being hit and can reflect damage back onto the enemy.
- You must have at least 6 prayer to cast an aura.
- Your aura will reflect damage ONLY if there is leftover aura after healing.
- Reflection damage increases with higher prayer range spec.
- Prayer specs give boosts to attack and strength.
- Low prayer bonus gives an "invisible" defense spec.
Every 9 levels after level 6 prayer will gain you a new aura. (For players without a prayer spec)
Level/Aura Name
6 Weak Wind Protective Aura 4-7
14 Weak Rain Protective Aura 7-10
23 Weak Dusty Protective Aura 10-13
32 Weak Red Protective Aura 13-16
41 Wind Protective Aura 16-19
50 Water Protective Aura 19-22
59 Dust Protective Aura 22-25

95 Sandstorm Protective Aura 34-37
104 Bright Red Protective Aura 37-40
113 Weak Holy Armour Protective Aura 40-43
122 Weak Unholy Armour Protective Aura 43-46
131 Bronze Skin Protective Aura 46-49
140 Holy Armour Protective Aura 49-52
149 Iron Skin Protective Aura 52-55
158 Unholy Armour Protective Aura 55-58
167 Steel Skin Protective Aura 58-61
176 Strong Holy Armour Protective Aura 61-64
185 Mithril Skin Protective Aura 64-67
194 Strong Unholy Protective Aura 67-70
203 Adamite Skin Protective Aura 70-73
212 Weak Sky Protective Aura (?) 73-76
221 Sky Protective Aura 76-79
230 Strong Sky Protective Aura 79-82
239 Protective Aura 82+
*Note: If you have a spec in prayer, you will be able to cast stronger auras at lower levels. We haven't confirmed the formula yet.
#A12. Archery (Ranged)
The archery (range) round comes after casting your aura and magic spells. It consists of two parts; shooting the arrow, and bleeding.
The range round consists of one arrow, fired from both you and your opponent. Bleeding starts on the first round of fighting. The amount of bleeding is affected by the strength of your bow, and your range spec. The amount of bleeding is set at the beginning of the fight; once you have bled that amount, your wounds will close.
- You MUST have at least 5 range to fire an arrow.
- You have a 5% chance of hitting you arrow if you have low range.
- A higher spec in range will increase the damage of your arrow AND bleeding damage inflicted upon your enemy.
- Low range bonus gives +1 "invisible" spec in HP.
#A13. What is an adventurer, and what good are they?
If you would rather become a balanced fighter, you would gain the rank of ADVENTURER. Not weak, yet not strong.
As an adventurer, you have a hidden bonus. You are able to 'unleash' random 2* specs. There is a 10% chance of any specific spec will be 'unleashed'. The chances to unleash x amount of specs is:
0 specs = 32.06%
1 spec = 39.60%
2 specs = 20.97%
3 specs = 6.17%
4 specs = 1.09%
5 specs = 0.11%
6 specs = 0.0068%
7 specs = 0.00017%
You may randomly acquire the powers of:
Tank: 2* Defense
Swordsman: 2* Attack
Hercules: 2* Strength
Healthy: 2* HP
Mage: 2* Magic
Cleric: 2* Prayer
Archer: 2* Ranged
#A14. Items
After training a bit, you may want to get some new items to make your character stronger. Go back to the Arena Yard (from the Training Room click Back to Combat in the top left) and click the link for the Items Arena. Here, you can sacrifice 10 fights to fight for the a new item (each item is guarded by a guardian).
Rules:
RULES of item arena:
a.) You fight an enemy guarding the item, and if you win, you gain the item!
b.) You may only fight for an item if you have 10 or more fights, AND if you have the required amount of fame.
c.) If you try to get an item that is higher level, there is a chance that you will meet the guardian dragon Tiny. 1 level under (5%), 2 levels under (10%), 3 levels under (15%), 4 levels under (20%), 5 levels under (25%)
d.) If you try to cheat (usually by typing the link for the item in the URL) you will face Tiny.
Bows are shown in the items arena after you have a range level of [bow level]+10.
If you win the fight, however, you will win the item. It will be automatically be equipped onto your character.
#A15. Clans HQ: (Under Construction)
This is where you can manage your clan, check your clan status, and check up on your leaders/vassals (followers).
[Will be edited once the Clans HQ is more complete]
#A16. Monster Dens
This is an area where you can fight monsters around your level. The monsters range from -10 to +5 your combat level. (If you are level 30, the monsters in the dens will be from level 20 to level 35.)
Random Fact: The monsters den used to give double experience!
#A17. Mirror Room
This is the area where you have the chance to fight your own character! Unleash your anger at yourself, and gain experience points and fame at the same time!
#A18. Dueling Arena
Think you can take on another player in a fight? Then enter the dueling arena! You will put your fame on the line - if you win a fight you will gain fame. If you lose the battle, your fame will be taken away by the other character.
You will find that players are either a lot easier or a lot harder than monsters. They have different combinations of specs, and sometimes have stronger weapons. Be careful!

#A20. FAQ
I've seen players in the game with an avatar (a picture)! How can I get one?
In-game avatars are given to players who donate to Silverion via Paypal. (It helps Silverion pay for the server)
What is this "Abandoned Arena"? I found the wall, now what?
The Abandoned Arena is a quest that Silverion started but never completed. (Though he did work on part two, the quest is not 100% done yet)
The Abandoned Arena team was supposed to be made up of the first few players who found the hidden tunnel. But Silverion never finished it up; no one is sure about what will be of the quest.
#A21. Logging Out/Red Dragon Inn
Once you are done with your turns (you don't need to use all of them!), click the link at the top of the page to log out. You have two options:
Regular logout: Uses no turns to log out, but you will NOT be safe from people taking your fame!
Red Dragon Inn: Uses 5 turns to log out. You WILL be safe from people trying to take your fame, but you will NOT be safe from revenges. Use this when you're trying to save up fame for an item that you want.
Whichever option you choose, you will regain fights the same way. You will regain 6 fights per hour, or 1 per 10 minutes. (After you have logged out for 1 hour).
#A22. Problems?
If you are having a problem with the game (either technical or about something in the game), please come to the ARENAscape boards! Our community is filled with great people that will gladly help out with your problem. See you there!
