For design class a Green team organization asked our teacher to sorta make us design artwork for it to be displayed. The original assignment was to make a logo of some sort with pictographs or whatever looks good. This is what I came up with.

 

 

I'm stuck on what to do next because it doesn't really get the message across, or really display a message.

 

I was doing some pentooling in class whhile our teacher was talking and came up with those gradient swirls. The green, blue, and white things that you see. After class I just put a circle between them so it looks like it's going around the sphere. Then fooled around with gradients again to make that gem- like thing.

 

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I ADD.

 

Btw the green = land, blue = ocean, white = north/ snow.

What about making the sphere the globe (if it isn't supposed to be already). A very obvious globe would get the message across that it has something to do with the environment.

Or... (this may sound corny) you could work in the Recycle logo, instead of drawing a map.

The globe idea is probably better, but the recycle logo with the 3 arrows would be easier imo.

 

It is already very good looking. I'm just not sure what the dark spots on the "gem-like thing" are.

(i might be entirely wrong here) Maybe make easily-identifyable continents... like a rough outline of North America or Africa, so you can tell that its a globe. (and maybe is not supposed to be)

^ It's a piece of Canada isn't it?

 

EDIT: Sorry I should have commented too. It does look very nice ;) I'm not sure what else to add to incorporate a message D: *thinks about it*

Yea it's the province that I live in. I'll figure out something, but I will make the globe more obvious. Thanks.

I had in mind of somehting to place the gem on top of. Since I'll probably add text to it so how about a circular plate which holds the gem? I dunno.

Well, right now the province seems a bit flat. Maybe you could try to spherize it a bit more?

 

Was kinda hard because Gimp doesn't have the sphearize(sp?) filter like ps.

I'm really loving it. The lines really look like the are holding the globe. It looks good, I think, and it shows the message your 'company' wants to get across. However, it maybe borders the area of being almost too detailed, if you know what I mean? Logo's should be simpler, in my honest opinion. Looks good though.

I'd make your green/white/blue things more flush with the sphere. You need something in the middle that pops out and grabs your attention otherwise its pretty dull imo. Yours swirl things aren't enough to do that. Right now your province is hidden behind everything, maybe try and bring it to the front and just make it grab our attention on a first glance.

The Firefox logo springs to mind here! :P

Yea I shouldn't of called it a logo, it's more of a piece. I know a girl whose making a sculpture.

I'm probably gonna change it now because the gem thing doesn't really stand out to me either even when I was making it, I was just hoping that as I develop it more something lucky would happen.

If you were looking on a map it would look green, but adding realism to a clearly non- realism thing is just silly.

The leaf, drop, and snow flake means that the people in my province live on the land, by sea, and on snow.

At first glance, most people won't recognize that's a globe. How is adding slightly realistic color (to a piece that's not meant to look realistic) silly?

 

You added land, why not make it so that people can tell its land? But you're right of course, land is much worse than unidentifyable shapes.

I think I'm gonna scrap that idea. It does look too technical.

 

Anywho, here's some twist on it. I may use it.

Also changed the snowflake to a cloud because people probably wouldn't get that land, sea, and snow thing so I changed it to land, sea, and air so it fits more with the environment thing.

Move all the objects closer together, give it a sense of unison. Looking much better though!

I think regressing to those 3 simple shapes representing land/air/water is good. I would move them closer together, as shiny stated, and possibly let them intertwine a bit.

I thought about the binding thing you said and so I thought it would bind things more closely by making a circle thing surrounding the sun connecting the 3 orbs. This is just a sketch of what I'm gonna do. There will be more added onto it, this is just for illustration.

I'm not sure about the binding ring thing, it would be better if they were being bounded in the triangle shape not a circle

I really like that last one that you posted. The only thing, the sun doesn't follow the same style as everything else.

 

Unlike spia, i like the ring, everything looks great except the sun.

Tbh I don't like the sun either. While I was making it I knew I was gonna change it sooner or later but I didn't know how so I just left it until I was done with the rest.

Scrapped the circular binding thing and made a new sun. Looks more symbolized.

Come on guys I need feedback. The more the better because it's due this week.

I like the new sun... The Symbol just doesn't look like it matches the others though...

Would it look better having only 3 sun rays instead of 4, and have each one point towards an element?
