  1. People wore capes, more or less cloaks actually. They protected the back because a full set of plate was too heavy for a foot soldier. Sure for a mounted lancer they were fine. Most wore a chain tunic with latches on them. These latches were used to attach plate breast plates and arms. This caused for huge gaps in the plate and the chain was little protection in those vital areas. A cloak was worn to add protection cause it was light enough to manuver in, not as movement restricting as plate. As for getting in the way, I think you are thinking of cloth capes like you see super heroes wear. A leather cloak is quite stiff and sterdy. It doesn't fly around with a lot of movement. It forms around the body as you move.
  2. We already have metal boots and gloves. I never see any in the smithing table.
  3. OKay, I just figured out I misread the tip it guide. It was saying that there was no faster gain in experience when using a short bow over long bow. That it was the hit rate which is your range skill. However, I would think that if you shoot faster, you would hit more and more which means more xp over time.
  4. I think I understand the question. If you have a high attack level, and go on aggressive, I would think you would hit for less 0s because your accuracy is higher. It would seem to also be if you have high str and switch to accurate, you would hit harder more offten. That is what everyone has been answering but I guess it wasn't in words the poster understood for his question.
  5. Ok thats taken care of. Now what about bows? I know I am very limited in bows but what is the difference between short and long? I was told in the raange guide that speed has nothing to do with long or short cause speed is range skill modified. So what is the difference between long bows and short bows? ..... Other than one is long and the other is short.....
  6. So I am pretty well stuck wearing only hard leather chest, leather vambracers, leather chaps and leather boots until I have the ability to kill dragons? So not even studded is wearable by f2p? Wow, and I thought things would be rouogh, but never knew it would be this rough. The only things tip it shows as member only wearable gear is things like robin hood hat, ranger helm, ranger boots, and stuff like that. I have seen people wearing the other gear in f2p worlds so I guess that is why tip it lists them as wearable by f2p.
  7. I was looking over the tailoring items under the range guide on the tip it site. It showed a lot of stuff that only members can make, as wearable by f2p. For example the snake skin stuff and the coif. Was this a mistake or is it possible for f2p players to wear member only made tailoring items? And yes, I am a glutten for punishment making a range pure on f2p. Going to cost a lot of money and take a lot of time. What with not being able to tailor good clothes or fletch my own arrows and stuff.
  8. OKay, but how much is it worth? Before a mod comes along and locks this thread, I didn't think the market place was the place to put this. I figured it was a newbie question and that only buying and selling belonged on the market place.
  9. How much is an uncut diamond worth? I know cuts are much more valuable but surely an uncut, being diamond and all, is worth a bit......
  10. Not that it realy matters in a game, but metal capes, even a chain cape, would be impracticle. Too heavy to manuver in as well as the weight pulling on you from the back would be trouble. Thats why when warriors of old wore their armor, they put on a chain shirt then put on their plate. The chain would be weighted on their shoulders so not to throw off their center of gravity. Then a leather cloak or cape was draped over the back to add to the protection but not to be too heavy. Things I wish they would add would be metal gloves, IE guantlets, and boots. After all I have never seen a full set of plate armor not have guants and boots. I wonder why the devs left the boots and guants out of the smithing table.
  11. Could someone please explain to me what exactly is a pure? I was thinking it was focussing on a single combate attribute but I see stats of peole saying they are pures and they have a mix of skills trained. So what exactly is a pure? Also what is the viability of raising a character with range alone? Or how would it best be done to raise a character dependent on mostly range? I am on f2p so I wont be able to fletch. Would that be much of a problem? I want to go member but my main would be the one I take and I don't think it is worth the money to have more than one member account. My main is going primary melee, not even using range or magic. However I do have some magic skill dueto quests. I also have a bit of prayer because I can't help but berry bones when I am training. That brings up another thought. Is it viable to try to go hand to hand? Training melee skills and relying on prayer but using no weapons, like a monk or something. If it was, I would make one and work him up and could quite possibly make that account a member so I could switch to claws. One last question. Is there anyway to bypass going through the tutorial island when you create a new character?
  12. Wow, I didn't know that about anchovies. Good thing I didn't need food after all. Well at least I have them for when my cooking gets high enough. I am currently cooking apple pies. I just found out what I was calling my combat lvl was only my attack. I was not thinking right. My current combat lvl is 32 with attack being 29 str 29 and defense 20. Does my attack have to be 30 to wear adamant or combat lvl? That brings up another question. My mining says I can use an adamant pickaxe but does that matter if I can equip it or not?
  13. I was about to ask a similar question. I am only lvl 19 on crafting. Tailoring leather takes a good amount of time. Pottery is even slower with the mining of clay and such. I have very little money. Isn't there any way to work crafting that isn't a huge time sink? Smithing, you just mine some ore, smelt it to bricks, then poiund it to an item. All you have to buy is a pickaxe and a hammer. With crafting, you have to have needle and thread, molds for jewelry, a pickaxe for mining clay silver and gold, a chisle, and you have step after step of menial laboring steps to get a single item. Crafting has to be the worst skill to lvl in the free worlds.
  14. I'm with you on that thought. There are too many people already benefiting from my deaths by NPCs rather than to go out there and let them kill me first hand. LOL
  15. Thats the problem. So what if it is a game? There is no reason to just roll over and play dead. Why not try and make a change? Why just sit back and accept something they should have fixed when they kept adding to the size of the world? The world is getting larger and larger but there is nothing done to the rule of death so the distance could be factered in. People should nev er be allowed to depend on the misfortune of others to survive. Also I don't think I would call the p2p quest a fix. So now you are bound to a city, next to the one you used to be bound to. Since it is a p2p thing, they should have made the bind point a p2p city that only members can get to. That would be more beneficial to those playing on the far reaches of the world that only they can go.
  16. LOL what makes RS different from WoW is design team, customer support, graffix, game play, and many many more things that RS just cannot compete with. Thats why RS can go as free or have people pay 5.99 where as WoW has a set price twice that of members. Thats why RS is RS and WoW is WoW.
  17. What is your basis for this? For one, flails and wips can be duel weilded. As a martial artist I use two nunchaku and those are nothing more than flails. As for the penalty, I think you are a little too constrained on your thinking. A penalty for duel wielding is never 1/2. In all games I have played, the penalty to the off hand weapon is only 25%. Meaning it only does 75% of its normal dmg. This is also factored in with the level of the duel wield skill. So what this means is to be good at duel wielding, you would have several skills to work. The speed of the second weapon would not have anything to do with the weapon but instead your skill in duel weild. Meaning that at low levels you might not even get that second swing in. Your attack lvl would then be checked against to see if the second swing lands or not. Then your str would determing the dmg you do if the hit is successful minuss the 25% penalty. This also opens a whole new weapon choice. They could add off hand weapons that have a defense rating. These weapons would only be equipable in the off hand and never primary. This also takes to mind the restriction to other weapons as primary. Mostly, anything of high dmg would be restricted to primary so people can't cheat the 25% defficit.
  18. What is being talked about is the idea World of Warcraft ripped off from EverQuest. The aspect is that you and or your group could go into a place and trigger the dungeon or whatever, to be only usable by you and your group. Basicly the rest of the world stays the same but you and your group are taken to another server where the dungeon sits for only you to use. You have free access to everything in it and no one else can get in. You could also think about it like in Diablo. You and your friends want to go dungeon crawling so you create a game and lock it.
  19. It isn't so easy to just follow someone by clicking after them. especially when they are on follow so they can type and pester you with begs and taunts. I don't know what I think of this idea. I am tired of those annoying beggers that click follow just so they can stay on you and beg for money or items. Also there are other people who just click follow just so they can harrass you. I like how you can turn trades off or to friends to keep people from pestering me with trade requests just to ask for free items so this idea could work.
  20. I posted this as a rant but it turned out to be more of a suggestion and a possible fix so I thought to post it here. Doesn't it burn you up that when you accidently tred into an unknown danger and are quickly killed? Someone is always hanging around to benifit from your misfortune. The other day I was looking for a ground spawn item and accidently treded into a wizzard area. I was unaware it was even there. As I tried to run, I found I had a tag along. Someone who was in the area and too high lvl for the wizzards to attack. He was hanging out just to catch people who would enter the area and be killed. He was simply corpse looting. Then he had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to buy a mith scim. The very scim he took off my body. I was on a quest and needed several items on me as I traveled. I needed my axe to cut some wood to make fire, so he got my mith axe as well. I had just finished imp catcher and so my accuracy amulet is lost too. He drank my beers and retained my other quest items. All I was left with was my mith legs, chest, and shield. I had just bought all the mith gear so I was out of money. I have no way to replace many of the items like my helm, my amulet, and my ring. I agree there should be some type of penalty for death but why should my penalty be a benefit for someone else? New rules should go into place. Either extend the time your items stay hidden from the rest of the world, or allow soul binding at different cities. It sickens me that you are soul bound to one city your entire game life. Heck I don't even come around Lumbridge anymore so why should I return there when I die? They could set it up so that you return to the last alter you preyed at. Make the alters a bind point. If you enter a city and want to do your business from that city, go to the church and prey at the alter and from then on, you are bound to that city and will return there when you die. This would eliminate those 3 hour runs to where you died and you just might have a chance of getting to your death spot before some player vulture robs you blind.
  21. I just had to close this thread with an update. I smithedmy way to 10K and found someone to sell me a full set of mith. I then raised some more moneyand got a scim. I filled up on some cooked anchovies and took my hammer, stake, and clove of garlic and saught out the vampire. I was still attack 20 str 25 and defense 20 but I was able to slay the vampire with out using a single bite of food. The quest then put me to attack 27. wado thanks to everyone for their advise.
  22. I could have sworn I ran into a vender, I thought it was an axe vender, that sold pickaxes but now I can't find him anymore. I am getting tired of mining with a simple bronze pickaxe at mining lvl 30. Not that lvl 30 is anything special. It is just I can use better quality but cant find it. I can equip mithril so I guess I will look for one of those.
  23. Guess my gear really needs looking into. I was working on making my own gear but it is slow and I only have a set of bronze plate legs, iron full helm, bronze chain chest, leather vambracers, leather boots, and a cape i found at the goblins. I only have about 2746 coin so I dont know if I could aford anything better. I have looked all over the tip it site but I can't find an equipment guide. Anyone got something to guide as to what gear for what lvl would be sufice?
  24. I don't have a mith scim but I do have a mith bearded axe. Would that be about the same in effect? Also what about the silverlight sword, is it any good? Oh and yes, I have the stake and the garlic. I have worked at the goblin village and now have 20 combat lvl 20 defense and 25 str.
  25. So range and magic has to do with combat lvl? I have never trained either of those skills.
