Baptism isn't forced? How do babies give consent?

What's everyone's issue with it? I think religion is quite an interesting discussion topic, and it applies to nearly everyone in the entire world. It's also a topic that changes people's lives and choices considerably, and therefore it is something worth knowing about. We did discuss it a bit much in threads it wasn't that related to, but now we have our own thread for it and hopefully we keep discussion there.

No, I'm thinking of baptism. The idea that one is "accepted" or whatever into a religion without even being aware of the name of said religion, let alone the morals, principles, and beliefs that come with it. Religion should be a personal choice, made with no pressures, at an age where you *understand* what you're doing. IMO.

I find baptism utterly ridiculous. It's like forcing someone into a religion. Kids are baptized far too young to know what they're doing. I know it doesn't actually force you, but I still find it a ridiculous imposition. Same thing with circumcision, though that is much more invasive.

You need a very good GPU to have it be efficient at all. Definitely beyond what the average person has.

Anarchy is theoretically feasible, but in practice would probably disintegrate to [cabbage] in less than a week. Most people misunderstand anarchy or have preconceived notions of what it looks like (or both). But until we actually have a large scale implementation somewhere, we should not immediately rule it out as a possible form of life.

It can't "pause" the unit and send it to a new idle computer? I don't believe so.

For all those doubting the results - do you honestly think CERN doesn't test and retest all these results? Wouldn't you think a massive, super-advanced organization like CERN would only report things it was pretty sure of? I agree this will need to be tested by others and proven more conclusively, but I do not doubt the validity of the results too much.

I used to do this, but there's one main problem: if you tell it to use a lot of power, it goes fast but takes up a LOT of power. If you tell it to use less power, it goes a lot slower and takes forever to finish one unit. I could never find a happy medium.

Just a little saying I found (but do not necessarily agree with all the time): Christians reject all but one god. Atheists reject just one more than that.

My Eggs, her reaction is understandable. That kind of thing certainly does exist, and while if I was her I would call [cabbage], a lot of people have zero idea of how available that is.

My opinion (me being an agnostic athiest, not believing in any deities but willing to accept existence if actual evidence were provided) on faith is that it is illogical. Faith is believing in something you have no evidence for. If it makes you feel more secure or whatever, go for it, but do realize and acknowledge that there is no evidence if there really isn't.
