  1. Exactly. It's pretty basic operant conditioning. Something has to reinforce the behaviour in order for someone to do the same action 10,000 times. Though the pattern of reinforcement does not change, what reinforces the behaviour varies from person to person. By the same logic, two people may enter the same career, let's say nursing. One may become a nurse for the satisfaction of caring for other people, and will go on nursing so long as that satisfaction is there. The other may want money, and will carry on so long as they're being paid. In both cases, the behaviour is being reinforced, but the reinforcing agent is different. Likewise, people may train at ivies for experience, or other trees for money. It's subjective, and no one can say for fact which is better for every player. What matters is that the person in question has found the right reinforcing agent for them so they won't bored and quit the goal prematurely.
  2. The point I was making is that "Tip.It" doesn't keep resorting to this Efficiency argument, only one person does because they critique and lecture people all the time without ever needing to or being wanted to, and then gets his knickers in a twist when people reply to him with retorts. Treat your neighbour as you yourself would want to be treated. You can't keep bringing every topic on the general board to the same [bleep]ing topic of "Effiency", making comments like "lol 70 Ranged" and then whining when people tell you to shut up. I'm sick of it. Just play the game the way you want to, and if you genuinely want to help people, hang around the Help & Advice board or apply to become a Crew member and put your 'elitism' to good bloody use. Outside of those contexts, just keep your snobbish opinions to yourself.
  3. No, one person did. Das was talking about how people should show respect to each other without resorting to elitism. Not once did he mentioned efficiency.
  4. The General board isn't a strong community. It never has been. That's why people over the years have established their own "sub-communities" in the form of clans, websites and CCs to gather more like-minded people. Those different groups don't come to share tea on the general board now, they come to openly oppose each other. Frankly, you need to pretty thick-skinned to post any kind of contradictory opinion on here without being shouted down by some other person for allegedly being "wrong" in their "well informed" opinion. It's a caustic environment where a diversity of opinion is no longer tolerated, and it doesn't bring out the best in people or make for much tolerance. The saying, "If you haven't got anything nice to say, don't bother saying it," is pretty much dead here. The CC I use is generally friendly with each other, so... I'm happy that my 'community needs' are being met.
  5. Don't you know? The RSOF is for "omg lol RANDDOOOM XD" rants. TIF is for well thought-out rants OR rants in which something EXTREMELY and UNUSUALLY bad happens to the OP. In this case, the OP is ranting about something trivial that makes absolutely no sense. His thread should be locked and he should warned by a mod for the loss of brain cells I've endured by reading it. And he has yet to reveal why these people (read: random internet strangers) are able to get to him. Is he that insecure? He's answered this question about five times. You're no Jeremy Paxman. You can't keep asking the same thing until you get the answer you're looking for. From an objective POV, if it makes no sense to you, but it does to most of the people on this thread, it's probably you to blame, no offence intended. Believe me, I've seen my fair share of banal codwash in my time on Tip.It, whilst there's many a good thread written on the RSOF from time to time.
  6. On a forum entitled 'rants'... how bizarre.
  7. Note that MMORPG does *not* translate to: All people should be doing the same xp rates to achieve 200m in the fastest/most productive way possible. It might be what *you* want, but someone else may be different and for all you know, they're blissfully happy of their own methods. This isn't professional sport; it's meant to be something more personal and less stressful. And that's the beauty of RPGs, folks.
  8. I don't understand your gripe with this, really. I'm assuming you're being sardonic by that statement. The old Elite tasks are still in the new task system, so there's definite content for high levels, but they've integrated those with the old Lumbridge Guide/Objectives systems that were designed to educate new players on the game's basics concepts (like, mining ores to smelt weapons, using weapons to gain resources, using resources to train skills). They've put it all together into one slick new system. I can understand it's annoying for high levels to be engaging in tasks which appear menial, and they could maybe have put in a system so they didn't have to, but I wouldn't draw any generalisations on how Jagex are 'basing the game now' from this update. There's something for everyone, which frankly, is how an RPG should be.
  9. Just as a general observation, I see people asking general knowledge questions far more often than I ever did pre-GE. I mean, I'm talking about basic items like limestone, steel platelegs and tinderboxes. You get the feeling nowadays it's just "The GE sells over 7,000 items, chances are I'll find it there and not have to care about anywhere else". Then when the GE isn't selling, "Err... what now? I guess I'll just sit here and wait a bit..."
  10. Training a skill for the sake of enjoying it? What kind of crazy [cabbage] is this?
  11. I'll rephrase it for him: I'd rather have a slightly bugged update than an update so full of bugs we'll have another Falador Massacre on our hands.
  12. You'd have thought they'd make a bigger song and dance over the HP update. Maybe not a whole one of the three major updates per month, but they'd mention it in the BTS somehow.
  13. If we go by the 'two week' rule, and that the last update (BOAESU) was two weeks ago Tuesday, logic would lead us to believe today was the last date they could have released a new update and still be sticking to their rulebook.
  14. then jagex should have put 99 at 1 million xp, not 13 million. That's not a decision. That's the way things have always been. since you cannot grasp the concept: then jagex SHOULD change 99 to 1 million xp How does this make sense? All those who have trained beyond 1m in just about any skill would then also be disadvantaged. I'd hazard a guess such a decision would still disadvantage the majority because they've trained thirteen times longer than they needed to. The fact is, not one of you has come up with a decent argument as to why Jagex should be releasing content for people who have over 90 Agility, ~0.2% of their paying customers. The fact none of you can see that disadvantages 99.8% of Jagex's paying customers just speaks volumes about the extent to which you're willing to deny this, so I'll just leave because it's clear I'm not gonna get a straight answer.
  15. then jagex should have put 99 at 1 million xp, not 13 million. That's not a decision. That's the way things have always been.
  16. I didn't call you a 'nolyfer'. I asked a simple question, which I'll reitterate since you seem to have dodged it: If I'm in charge of a business, and I have, say, 100K customers, what possible sense is there in making decisions that only benefit 200 of those customers?
  17. TBH stone, this account is not my first, but you can continue to patronise me if you wish. It's generally unwise to refer to people's accounts as an argument for 'not knowing any better'. Focus on arguments. I'm willing to bet that if a poll was put on the Tip.It website right now asking if 90 Agility is a high level for the skill, I reckon the majority would disagree with you. In fact, I know this because out of the millions of paying accounts RuneScape currently has, less than 20K have even level 90 Agility, let alone the levels you're talking about. If I'm being perfectly open and honest, I'll put it like this: I pay just as much for my subscription to RuneScape as you, and I receive the same content updates. Why should Jagex pander to you and a tiny minority of players at the top, just because you don't see any merit in training some skills any more, while the rest of us end up losing out on our potential updates? Even if you take morality (and your personal jibes) out of the argument - from a business point of view, why would Jagex release high level content that, in truth, will only benefit less than one percent of their paying customers?
  18. If it's with friends, and we're having a good time, why does it matter how long we take? When I'm having a good time, I usually hope it lasts as long as possible. How can you talk about 'the journey' when you're criticising people for taking any more than 30 minutes on a 5:5 large? It's complete nonsense. What exactly is wrong with only having a top for aesthetics? I mean Christ, I wouldn't dream of taking a PHat to PvP but I'm not gonna call it 'useless'. I spent some time today hunting strange rocks. Not for the XP, but for the replica pieces. Naughty boy, I know. I should have been grinding herb for ovls.
  19. Competing against someone else for a resource, just to see whose ping is faster? Seems a bit... silly. I'm not in any control over that; how's it a competition? May as well throw some dice and have done with it. So... now I've established in my own mind that it's not a competition, I'll just find the quickest way of finding a resource I can claim for myself. Which would be world hopping.
  20. PFFFHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Yeah man, that 200-300k profit is off the hook. I swear you make it your job on here to argue for the sake of arguing. 1gp would be insane profit compared to the 0gp you gained before for powermining. Then there's also the potential for goldsmithing.
  21. It's weird thinking how Runecrafting, Woodcutting and Farming were the 'gathering' skills that were once profitable whereas Mining and Fishing were powertrained for no profit through granite/iron and fly fishing. Now ZMI is preferred because nature runes are shot, choking ivy is far better than anything else and Farming looks set to have its profits slashed as well, but we now have concentrated gold and rocktails for insane LRC profits. Strange that there's been almost a complete reversal there. The one thing you notice: Natures: 44 RC Yews: 60 WC (higher recommended, I know) Herb running: 38 Farm for toadflax Conc gold: 80 Mine Rocktails: 90 Fish It's clear that Jagex's agenda is to basically destroy the profits for the lower levels and restore them to exclusively high level content.
  22. It boils down to this for me: Would I rather spend the next 30 minutes of my time focusing my peripheral attention on the telly/music/film I've put on to take my mind off things, or would I rather spend it competing over some virtual resource with someone I can't even meet face to face? Just world hop. It's easier.
  23. Maybe no "right" to do so, but it would have probably been an act of mutual respect if the rangers didn't start taking his spot. This game can be competitive by all means, but it's just so much nicer when people just yield to other people and world switch instead of stealing spots. So why doesn't he hop world? Why should the rangers hop just because he is too selfish to leave & let them take the dragons, when they have the ability to take them by using their superior skills? It's like... when you're at a bank, and there's not enough cashiers. You can queue up, or you can come back later when it's less busy, or go to a different branch. The one thing you wouldn't do is just 'shove in' past everyone so you get what you want and not care about anyone else. If there's a mother with a baby in front, you wouldn't barge past them because you have "superior skills". It's just social etiquette really - if someone else is using something you want, ask them nicely and be prepared to wait for it, or go find it somewhere else; and in RuneScape, the latter option really is as simple as spending 60 seconds on a world hop. With slayer monsters/FMing spots/Ore spawns there's really not an excuse for crashing unless you're purposefully being anal.
  24. Four people have 200m dungeoneering experience now, and a further four are within the last 10% to that goal. Unless you mean Pheonix wants the dungeoneering experience? He could probably make it by the time anyone gets anywhere near 200m RCing experience.
