  1. Gingy Warr, P2P if there's any space, please. I did have my old account on there but it must have been wtfowned when Jagex decided I hack other people's computers for a living. :^_^:
  2. I'm gonna lay what I think out on the table: Great idea, very little creativity in execution. Hardly the kind of stuff that makes, 'a huge addition to the Defence skill and defensive equipment'. (Jagex, December 2010)
  3. Especially if you're dungeoneering.
  4. You could do this anyway but... OK. :???:
  5. My thoughts are also with his family at this sad time. As you say, the suffering has stopped now.
  6. How did you find out his playing time?
  7. Those who gain lots of money via MHing and slaying do so because they've put their (virtual) lives on the line for it. They run the risk of death, and are richly rewarded for success. On the lower end of the spectrum, those who combat Flesh Crawlers will be lucky to make 100K per hour. On Smash World we call this risk vs reward. I could carry on racking up damage with TL's SHDA (very low risk, no chance of a KO), or I could go for the jugular; SH -> F-air or SH/Dodge -> Z-air w/DI towards opponent -> SH -> N-air. If I don't hit, I'm almost certainly giving initiative to the opponent; if I hit, he's dead no questions asked. The skill is deciding whether the chance of receiving the reward is worth the chance of conceding that risk, weighing up those if's, but's and maybe's. Regrettably, split second decision making wasn't something I was ever very good at, which probably explains my poor performances in beat-em-ups and FPS, and relatively good ability in racing games and flight simulators, but understanding the concept isn't hard. The problem is, no such spectrum exists for risk vs reward in the skilling world. The risk:reward ratio in current skilling acitivities doesn't come close to the conventional ways of making money via combat. There needs to be a new activity that promises lots of profit via skilling, but runs a significant risk of death. For level 3s, maybe they can buy an item that protects them, but halves their potential for making profit, so as not to remove the incentive for training combat completely. Then again, you could argue the only way to introduce risk of death into skilling is to involve combat somehow, since LPs are directly linked to combat, however much pure skillers want to deny this. As Tripsis said before, the near-total absense of real-life skill in the RuneScape combat system doesn't particularly help things; risk only becomes a real concept rather than a statistical one when real skills are being involved and not just mathematical probabilities and max hit calculations.
  8. I'd keep my current headphones, I'd keep the £7 headphone/mic set I bought for Skype from my university SU shop, pay off the mortgage from my dad's new place, bank the billions and live off the interest. Maybe buy an Xbox for myself to stray from the monotonous boredom such a life would bring.
  9. Thinking from Jagex's perspective, I could invest money in trying to fix a perenial problem that has plagued RuneScape for years and has almost been accepted as right anyway, or I could focus on using the lessons learned from RuneScape's combat system to make sure Stellar Dawn's isn't a failure either. I'd take the latter everyday. Given Jagex have got a new MMORPG coming out next year, I just can't see them busting a gut to fix the combat triangle's problems.
  10. Ankous are vulnerable to the Salve amulet too.
  11. Where did you hear this? I received none whatsoever for having no tokens at all. Took 150 of each discipline to get two defenders, but I got it when it was crowded.
  12. The context I made those comments in is different to what most people on TIF would appreciate, given we have a socialised healthcare system in the UK and there's more help for people who get themselves in a bad way (i.e. the "safety net" here is larger than it is in the US). I certainly don't think that's a bad thing, and in any case over recent years it's been slashed full of holes anyway, but there's obviously some level of judging there. The difference is is that it's not the 'sitting on a high horse' type judgementalism, it's a realistic assessment of how far someone should be prepared to helpselves before other people will come in to save them. Expecting other people to pay for your house and food whilst you sit on RS doing sweet FA is clearly not right, and yes, I'm judging there as a tax payer. iirc - I made the post 2 1/2 yrs ago - the person I was replying to implied all judgementalism is wrong, including whether I should be judging people who play RS too much, which is just silly. Where judgementalism goes wrong is where it reaches statements like, "I don't like religious people 'coz they're clearly irrational for believing in God." or, "All level 138s need to get a life 'coz they play too much." Like anything that has the potential for inducing addictive-like behaviour in life, balance and effect on wider life is key.
  13. In terms of group organisation, is it just easier for one person to have the designated role of keying the doors? I wouldn't know really, having never properly keyed a large team. This idea sounds great for fighters, but organised chaos for the keyer. No way you can keep track with four other people doing their own thing, read a map, input into the map and key at the same time. It's a great idea otherwise. I usually use the Tip.It planner and keep a skeletal version of the map with very minimal information (key doors, junctions, boss room). If there was anyway the keyer could update this map and other people could see the map updated 'live' on their own monitor, that would be the next step. Again, I wouldn't know how possible that is. But definitely the idea of keeping a map updated live is a great one.
  14. How many tokens you got?
  15. If there's enough of you at PC, get all the legit players to go on the intermediate boat. Three points every game is better than four points on the off-chance bots don't ruin a veteran game. Plus it screws the bots over since they basically depend on living humans to attack the south portals. You'll get some idiots saying the only reason people are failing the veteran level boat is because you're somehow not trying hard enough. Ignore them, they're not the kind of people you'd want to back you up in PC anyway. The sensible people will go for it until the boat becomes too watered down by low levels that it's no longer tenible. I've even been in situations at PC where the novice boat gives more pts/hr than the veteran boat because the latter has been ruined that much by botting.
  16. If a clan actively encourages rule breaking, there's a seperate rule for that, for which we should report for. If a chatroom contains rule breakers, there's a whole host of rules you can report for depending on what they're doing. If I come across a rule breaker in-game, we should report for that. See where I'm going here? The only policing powers normal users have in-game is to notify Jagex of their suspicions. The thing is, you're treating botting as though it's something people accidently fall into until they are enlightened to the error of their ways by peers in whatever clans they're a part of. There's nothing accidental or inadvertent about botting; it's a premeditated choice, and I refuse to believe any amount of peer pressure will change the basis of that choice any time soon. It's naive and pretty ostentatious to think that clan leaders play anything more than a very minor role in the battle against bots. Going back to the employment metaphor, the employer may be condemning the employee's out-of-work actions in sacking them for criminal activity, but given their stable cashflow has now ended, will that make them stop dealing? Doubt it. Expand that question further and ask, "Would it have any impact on drug-dealing in the local community?"... No. If you refuse to endorse botting as a clan leader, have a medal. Amazingly enough, GPs don't encourage heroin use either. That in itself won't even begin to scratch the wider problem of botting.
  17. AFK skills are for training while watching the NFL on a Sunday night (baring in mind the 'evening game' in the US starts at 1.45am here). With all the commercials, you only have to look up at the screen every 30 seconds anyway. The commercials drive everyone insane, but I've got something to keep me occupied. If Slayer, Dungeoneering and mini-games are meant for fun, AFK skills are for driving away boredom whilst you do something else, like read, watch TV/iPlayer/films, write or listen to some music. That said, I'm not a great fan of watching my avatar chop ivy whilst I sit there and do nothing but stare vacantly. When you play anything on the Xbox, your skills are constantly being utilised because you constantly have to input commands. With RuneScape sometimes you just click and watch, which is basically the same as sitting in a room and staring at a wall when you think about it.
  18. As a general in HYT chat, I can honestly say I would have no idea if someone inside the chat was botting. Sure, there are some lurkers who never talk, just like in all chats, but it's not like I stalk all of its members just to make sure, on Jagex's behalf, that they're following the rules as an unpaid volunteer. Hell, if Jagex want me to do that, they can pay for a wage and some accomodation in Cambridge, please. Secondly, how is the onus on the clan leader? That's like saying, if an employee of yours falls into some criminal disrepute outside of the work place, you as an employer are responsible for whatever they did. Your idea of accountability is way off the mark, and your suggestions about publicising bank details border on insanity, and almost definitely crosses the legal line in every developed country on planet Earth. You overstate your importance in this. Whether you kick them or not is irrelevant - they're still botting. All Jagex care about you doing has been highlighted in red. Again, you misinterpret your role in Jagex's rule enforcement. And again. Where is this implied? I mean, why is the expectation for clan leaders to follow rules any greater than every other RuneScape player? We all sign the same contract when creating a new account, do we not? Where's the special 'Clan Leader Clause'?
  19. So yeah... he got 66 Dung as well. He's crap at beating Night-gazer though, for real.
  20. To be fair, most of his and Obts posts have been doing exactly that - it's just that you've not agreed, and they've been coupled with seem pretty needless and nasty retorts that drag a civil discussion into full blown rowing (and you've not exactly avoided making the odd snipe yourself). It's the latter phenomenon that this board really needs dealing with. Sometimes, reading this board is like watching the House of Commons during PMQs, and it's unsavoury. Expanding on Kimberly's point, when I started to wind down from RuneScape two years ago on my old, now banned, account, I stayed around Off-Topic and was involved in the Mario Kart Wii and SSBB threads. When I decided to make a new account earlier this year, the first thing I thought about doing was finding the old HYT chat and getting back in touch with some old Tip.Iters I once knew. Then again, this is only one story of the millions upon millions who play RuneScape, but undoubtedly wanting to return to the HYT clan chat - a part of the wider Tip.It community - was influential in making me return to the game. The original question was "Does RuneScape rely on fansites?" which clearly is a given 'no', but it does add to the gaming experience unquestionably, though maybe less now than Tip.It used to many years ago.
  21. You'd have to assume if they were doing that, we'd have seen a screenie by now. This has been going on for weeks if not months now.
  22. I understood his point perfectly well. Dunno about anyone else...
  23. Does it? I think the legitimacy of this point has been somewhat presumed - we've not seen any accounts showing correlation between this policy and an increase in Jagex's profits. For all we know, they've invested more into macro detection than is being gained by keeping accounts open, in which case, the potential for producing new updates lessens.
  24. Attitudes definitely changed when Achievement Capes came out. No doubt about it. I remember a time when Legends and Obsidian capes were respectable combat gear, and the only way to check if someone was bs'ing about being level 99 was to check the hiscores. I'm trying to find out what the first update after I joined was.. anyone know of a list of game updates by chronological order? EDIT: nvm, found it. http://services.runescape.com/m=news/over-15000-runescape-accounts-banned-for-cheating No RFD or Fairy Rings at that point. Klank's gauntlets, anyone?
  25. I can empathise why some might be a little peeved about struggling for one defender whilst others have 66, but in general, people at the Warriors Guild don't seem too frustrated with the competition. The tokens don't drain anywhere near as fast as they did under the old physical token system if you're using the multiple tokens system, so it's not a huge deal if two people fight for a spawn - you'll have more than enough time to get at least one anyway.
