Meh. I've seen other mmorpgs, and they're fun. Most more fun then runescape. But they're also more expensive. I prefer good ole runescape for my mindless timewasting. Most good games are just getting too expensive. But other than that i agree. My current favorite f2p game is Eternal Lands which is amazingly fun and has a nice community. The only problem is there isn't as much to do. You yourself said you're restricting to very specific weapons/skills. That would kill me, not being able to suddenly go from to mining/smithing. Sorry, but for variety and cheapness, I'll stick with RS.

Since runes were more available when you transfered runes from one to the other the amount changed. Your skills were the same on both, but not linked, so a level on one game would not transfer to the other. Because of new combat level system, pretty much everyone's combat level went up, while monsters randomly changed levels (elvarg used to be 100, lessers were like 3 levels lower) [/nostalgia]

Mining gold is NOT the easiest way to get into the mining guild. As annoying as it may be, the fastest way to get into the guild is sitting in the rimmington iron mine and powermining like crazy. With a rune pick you can one-hit the rocks. I sat and powermined for ~3 hours total to get into the guild, mining 3 and dropping

If you already have money, my favorite method is buying 1K planks for ~40K and making them into planks (costs 250K) and then selling them for 500GP each, netting you 210K profit. Takes ~1-1.5 hours a per 1K planks, but it works.
