Steam wont connect to the internet, a little help?

I just got half-life 2, and I get to the part where i try to install the steam engine, I put in my username and password, and i get an error message about it not being able to connect. A little help? (im on a router, my comp is good enough to run the game)

:shock: nice room you got there. All i have is a PS2, xbox, laptop(2005 gateway I think) and a 20" TV. So yeah, your room is better somewhat. but still, i do some running every now and then, sometimes i ride bikes, jump on trampoline, im NEVER playing football with anyone huge again tho(I hated saturday :( ). I do occasionally go over to someone else's house tho.
