Once a great game. A story/Rant for veteran players.
Jac, here is a link for mature. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/mature Look at number 1. Careful consideration = Mature = Thinking carefully Responding appropriately = Mature Webster: based on slow careful consideration Wikipedia: Maturity is a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate manner Stop denying the true definitions!

Why do you keep taking the same things, rewording them, and making them appear different? It's seriously getting annoying and making it impossible to even make any sense out of your posts. You did it twice in that post alone. Debating is used for discovering truth, not distorting it. If it doesn't depend on it, then it doesn't have to do with it, in that context. Don't take things out of context like what you're accusing me of. They mean the same thing. Appropriate responses are the same as thinking carefully, in that context. Don't take things out of context like what you're accusing me of. They mean the same thing. Let me show you another definition of mature: -based on slow careful consideration

So you're just gonna cherrypick and ignore my Wikipedia article that says that age doesn't have to do with psychological maturity (the one he's talking about), but you still go by your article that says age has to do with physical maturity (the one we're not talking about)? Just answer me one question. Can kids act mature? (Same exact question as, "Can kids think carefully.")

But he was... He agreed with you about physical maturity and brought up thinking things through - a different kind of maturity. Then, going by chronological order, you disagreed. You are just rewording things to make them sound different. It's the same thing. He brought up the kind that, like I showed you from Wiki, does not have to do with age.

I know, I know. You don't have to rub it in.

Slayer Sucks
I remember seeing a list of how long it took to get to each Slayer spot. The highest was like 6 minutes and most were 2 minutes. This isn't that much when you compare it to skills where you have to gather secondaries or have to bank a lot. There is wasted time in almost all of the skills. I see no reason to single Slayer out when it comes to this.

Because when you say they can't you're saying that they never can. No one said they will always be mature. He only said that they can. Can't = impossible, can never do Can = possible, can do at least once The point of his post was to divide the two different types of maturity, hence the mentioning that there are several meanings for the word. If this wasn't what he meant, then mind telling me what else he implied by bringing up two different meanings?

I know that. I never said he was wrong about the physical maturity - just that he's wrong about kids not being able to think carefully (acting mature). Why do you all keep saying, "Oh, Comp was talking about this type," even though the poster clearly said that he wasn't talking about that type. The poster was talking about acting mature, yet Comp still disagreed. This still doesn't explain why you said, "No, they can't" to us saying kids can act mature.

And as I've stated, I agree that there is a correlation. All I've been saying is that kids can be mature and think carefully (even if that means only a little bit). I never said they are completely mature.

I still don't understand why you said, "No, they can't," though because this was the whole point he was getting at. He agreed that kids aren't mature in the sense of brain development, but he only said that they can be mature in the sense of thinking carefully.

The some who have are the ones I've been talking about. I'm sure there are at least a few 10-year-old's out there who have exhibited the acts of thinking carefully and responding appropriately. Definitely not the majority - I've agreed with you that the older you are, generally the more mature you will be, but I think that even children can exhibit at least some traits of maturity.

That's assuming the parents will punish him (and it's assuming they would find out). Let's take the parents out of the situation then. Do you think a child without parents has the ability to decline a cigarette and has the ability to know it is dangerous in the woods after dark?

Note: This is dragging out longer that I intended, so let's work together to clear it up. Teamwork gets things done - rivalries just distracts us by making us only care about hating on each other. They are the same. Thinking carefully and responding appropriately both mean the same as "doing the right thing" in simpler terms. If you don't think they have the capability to think carefully or respond appropriately, then you are saying they never do the right thing. This is not true. It is nearly impossible to always do the wrong thing (always be immature). And like I said, it is supported by Wiki. Maturity is a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctual, and is not determined by one's age. Maturity also encompasses being aware of the correct time and place to behave and knowing when to act in serious or non-serious ways. Let's look at a few examples. 1. Thinking carefully. Someone peer-pressures a 10-year-old to smoke a cigarette. He thinks about it and about the dangers. He refuses the cig. He exhibited thinking carefully and being mature. This scenario is completely possible and most likely happened before, do you agree? 2. Responding appropriately. A 10-year-old's parents tell him not to go playing in the woods after dark. His friend invites him to play in the woods, but the boy remembers what his parents said and he responds by declining the offer. He responded appropriately to the situation. Do you agree that this is a possible situation too?

That whole post was entirely irrelevant to the argument. Look. My intentions are to clear things up. When you go off track on tangents like that it makes me wonder whether you care at all or just feel like practicing typing. Let's clear this up: 1.) "Thinking something out fully and carefully" 2.) "Responding in an appropriate manner" Which one(s) do you agree that kids can do?

Now your argument is that you are always right? Wow... that's... mature. I'll say it again. "Thinking something out fully and carefully = Responding in an appropriate manner." These two sentences are the same, even though you disagreed to the first and agreed to the second. What makes you think they are different? Tell me! Not sure if I'm comfortable with believing anything you say after that. Actually, there is a bit of hypocrisy in this too. You say that I shouldn't be telling you what you meant, but at the same time you're telling me what he meant.

I'm not going to believe a professor is illiterate. "Thinking something out fully and carefully = Responding in an appropriate manner." These two sentences are the same, even though he disagreed to the first and agreed to the second. Surely a professor would understand that?

 What? The whole point of his point was to separate the two meanings. Read: "Mature has several meanings, one meaning you have met full development of your mind (which is what you're talking about) and another is that you think something out fully and carefully before you talk about it (which even 10 year olds can do if they put their mind to it)." The part he is speaking about is (2) - the number you agreed to!

The context the other guy was talking about WAS NOT ABOUT BRAIN DEVELOPMENT. He specifically said he wasn't talking about that kind!! For the sake of your own embarrassment, please read: "Mature has several meanings, one meaning you have met full development of your mind (which is what you're talking about) and another is that you think something out fully and carefully before you talk about it (which even 10 year olds can do if they put their mind to it)." You expect me to take anything you say seriously after that? You're making Comp's argument look even worse.
-
Once a great game. A story/Rant for veteran players.
Then you were wrong when you responded to how he said "kids can act mature," by saying "no, they can't." All he was saying is (2) kids can act in an appropriate manner, and you said that they can't.

I need someone to prove me wrong.
The 4th spatial dimension and time as the "forth dimension" are two different concepts. And what does that have to do with what I wrote? Duration isn't spatial, it's relevant to time.

So you're saying that I'm not allowed to disagree with only one of your statements? A: "Trees have leaves. Trees have bark. Trees have roots. Trees have hats." B: "No, trees do not have hats." Is person B wrong to point that out? Does person B need to disagree with all of his claims in order to be allowed to disagree with the last one? Perhaps it would help if you understood what we're talking about with maturity: Maturity is a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctual, and is not determined by one's age. Maturity also encompasses being aware of the correct time and place to behave and knowing when to act in serious or non-serious ways. Now I have a question: Do you (1) think children will always respond to a circumstance in an inappropriate manner, or do you (2) think that sometimes they can respond in an appropriate manner? 1 or 2?

I don't care about your previous comments. You said kids can't act mature, so I decided to prove you wrong. Don't make ridiculous claims if you fear being proven wrong. Yes they can. If kids always had an immature personality then that 14-year-old would've never went to college. He's living proof that kids can act mature - proof that you were wrong about saying, "No, they can't."

Does being thick on purpose really help your cause? He was talking about actions - not physical maturity. Read it again: "Mature has several meanings, one meaning you have met full development of your mind (which is what you're talking about) and another is that you think something out fully and carefully before you talk about it (which even 10 year olds can do if they put their mind to it)."   So you still think that kids can't act mature, even though I've pointed out the Wiki quote that says it doesn't have to do with age? He said: "and another is that you think something out fully and carefully before you talk about it (which even 10 year olds can do if they put their mind to it)." You said: "No, they can't." It's basic English dude. Please tell me what other secret meaning the words "No, they can't," have, because I'm really curious. By saying, "No," you are saying that kids can't act mature. This is like the tenth time you completely changed your argument. Either you think kids can act mature, or you think they can't act mature. There is no in between!

And as I've showed you before, that type of maturity doesn't have to do with your age. I specifically asked you if you were wrong for saying, "No, they can't," and you said no. Don't pretend like this is what you've been saying the whole time.
