  1. He pointed out the two types (thought process and actions) and you disagreed with the second one. You're the one trying to distort facts and actual events that took place. Hello! Have you read anything on this thread? Psychological maturity, by definition, has nothing to do with age and is only an adjective to describe an action! "He was mature by refusing the cig." Refusing a cig has nothing to do with your age! Then you are referring to physically mature again. Let that go for a second. Stop holding onto it so dearly. There are different meanings for maturity. One has nothing to do with age!! Try to understand that. It's just a way to describe an action such as good or bad!
  2. Links don't matter. I linked you to Wiki which said psychological maturity is responding (acting) to a circumstance in an appropriate manner and that it doesn't have to do with age. You've ignored this fact completely. Like I said, I would only be playing the devil's advocate - I would be wrong but it would bring up a point worth pointing out. They can't be physically mature, but they can be psychologically mature by responding to a circumstance in an appropriate manner. Read up on it! Maturity is a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctual, and is not determined by one's age. Maturity also encompasses being aware of the correct time and place to behave and knowing when to act in serious or non-serious ways. Question: Can a child do anything in the above paragraph? If they can, then that indicates that they are being mature and acting mature.
  3. Well I'm not. When I said act and be, I meant the same thing. You're spewing out illogical semantic rules that you made up on your own. If you don't want to conform to the English language, what's the point in talking to you? Reminds me of how this whole thing started. Someone pointed out there are two different definitions and someone disagreed. If I was interested in playing devil's advocate I could just deny the fact that "acting" is what you claim it to be, and make up my own definition for it. But I'm nice so nah. You said kids can't be mature. Yes, they can be because they can do mature actions. It's that simple. Wikipedia illicitly says maturity doesn't have to do with age, and that it is the ability to respond in an appropriate manner. If you're saying kids can't respond in an appropriate manner then you are saying everything they do is wrong. You're seriously a fool if you think that.
  4. In a world where "No they can't" = "Yes they can" but "acting" =/= "being" it's kind of hard to make sense out of anything you say at the point. ;) Ah, so by "acting" you think it means "pretending". So every kid that refuses a cig is "pretending" to be mature? That is seriously your argument? act - a state of real existence rather than possibility be - to have an objective existence : have reality or actuality
  5. I am always right too. I admit it when I'm wrong. That's how everybody is!
  6. You didn't answer the question... at all. Again, what is the difference between acting and being mature? If one makes a mature action, they are being mature and they are acting mature. There's no other way to put it. Stop manipulating the English language. act - a state of real existence rather than possibility be - to have an objective existence : have reality or actuality Aw, what do you know? Dictionaries prove you wrong again. I suggest you stop making up your own definitions and actually go by the book. Everyone else seems to conform to the simple laws of English. Join us!! You have a hard time answering questions, don't you? So what do you say? To be relevant or not to be relevant.
  7. Are you serious? What is the difference between being mature and acting mature? Is being bad and acting bad different too then?
  8. I don't know why, but Mercyful Fate was always my favorite choice when I was on RS. It might have to do with how they are both fantasy-oriented. Hmm.
  9. Mine wasn't that bad.
  10. Zierro replied to Derbo's topic in Off-Topic
How did he manage to do that...?
  11. He's right. 2 people have won an argument against me. Fortunately, it was a long time ago and my fault that time. I've learned from my mistakes ;) I find it funny and slightly egotistical how keep track. Does it really matter? Or is it just a crutch you lean on in order to "augment" your credibility?
  12. Am I the only person here who sees the contradiction? You flat out contradicted yourself this time. How are you gonna hide now? =D>
  13. And like we said to you tons of times, there is a correlation but it doesn't make it impossible for a child to act mature - which is what you've said. I said it was possible for kids to be mature and adults to be immature. You disagreed. You claimed that Wikipedia proved me wrong (even though it did the opposite  ). Why do I have to point out something you just said? Again, does being thick help your cause?
  14. Learn to read. Wikipedia says age doesn't determine psychological maturity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maturity_(psychological) Maturity is a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctual, and is not determined by one's age. Maturity also encompasses being aware of the correct time and place to behave and knowing when to act in serious or non-serious ways. While it has been shown that older persons are generally more mature, psychological maturity is not determined by one's age. They are two different concepts. Psychological maturity is the way you act and physical maturity in the way your body is. An old man (physically mature) can make an immature act, a kid (physically immature) can make a mature act. Why is this so hard to understand? Are you really that immature that you can't admit old people can do immature actions?
  15. Why do you keep changing your mind? First you say it isn't your argument, then when I ask why you said, "No they can't" you tell me it was your argument. Make your mind up and be consistent if you want to be taken seriously. Contradicting yourself is counterproductive to the debate. He pointed out the two types of maturity. There is the physical and the psychological. They are different. Wikipedia proves that psychological maturity does not have to do with age. All he said was that kids can be psychologically mature. You said they can't. Obviously you are wrong, as it clearly says psychological maturity is not determined by age (there is a correlation, but it is completely possible for children to be mature and adults to be immature).
  16. Yes you can.
  17. Why's that? It's such an old thread.. I haven't even bothered to read it. I get bored with all the threads where everyone agrees on things. :(
  18. You can be physically mature and not be psychologically mature. You can be psychologically mature and not be physically mature. You can have one without the other. Studying it wouldn't be racist. But assuming that all bad drivers are Asians would be. No, I'm pretty sure kids can think carefully. "Yes, they can."
  19. It annoys me when Is God Real? isn't on the first page of Off Topic.
  20. It says there is a correlation, not interdependency: While it has been shown that older persons are generally more mature, psychological maturity is not determined by one's age. Stop ignoring facts. So is saying, "Asians are bad at driving," a great point worth bringing up? A response to your random fact. Again, it doesn't matter if it was the sole factor. I can still disagree with it if I want. You were wrong, sole factor or not - kids can think carefully.
  21. Never said that. What I did say was a 10-year-old can be psychologically mature. This was addressed pages upon pages ago. Just because one specific group generally exhibits a behavior, it doesn't make it a point worth bringing up, and only shows intolerant tendencies. It is not morally right to say, "You failed the driver's test? You must be Asian." It is racist. How did what I responded to relate to the debate? Stop saying things that can be said about you. It's tedious. You are the one switching. You keep making contradictions. How is it physically possible for "No, they can't" to not be the sole point and be the main point at the same time? I got news. They're synonyms. Seriously, look that word up or something. And either way, it would still be a wrong point. Well, not everyone has the opportunity to argue with you in order to realize that, now do they?
  22. Since when do pointing out lines help you? Mind pointing out the line that proves it? Actually, you haven't made the response to the argument yet. Here it is again. "You just said in your last post that the "No, they can't," wasn't the sole factor of your point, and now you are saying it is your whole point. Which one is it?" Oh and the argument several pages back, the one that would clear up everything - what other meaning can "no they can't" have? - was never answered. I wonder why...
  23. Why would you make a movie of your own humiliation? That would be emotionally damaging. By the way, I'm pretty sure you're the one who created the whirlpool in the first place. I actually aim to clear things up. You just want to make everything more ambiguous.
  24. I disagree with the "No, they can't" and I also disagree with you pointing out maturity and age in the first place, as that is ageist. Usually online I'm in the moderate mood. You just said in your last post that the "No, they can't," wasn't the sole factor of your point, and now you are saying it is your whole point. Which one is it?
  25. At least we have one agreement we can work off of. I'm not friendly by nature, even when I'm in a good mood. Well I never said your whole point was wrong - I just said it was wrong how you said "no they can't" to that. Why am I not allowed to disagree with only one of your points?
