Global Warming
While some areas are getting warmer, others are getting colder. Texas is having record breaking cold spells this year. While I believe in a long term warming shift (with an equal cooling shift), I think we can safely say it's not snowing in New York because of El Nino.

How do YOU feel Christians/other religions are treated?
Whoo, way to bring in the flame (ie insult of spelling). We don't need that here.

State of the Union....
Doesn't mean he isn't smart. Just that any President can't keep their personal beliefs out of speech. All Presidents have made foreign policy blunders in private, best to keep that out of broadcasts.
-
State of the Union....
That would be amazing! The first president in 210 years to actually write their own speech! 10:1 you would say something that would piss off some part of the world and start a war. That's why Presidents do not write their own speeches. They give a list of what they want to say, and a crack team of the best writers in the world make it into a politically correct speech.

How do YOU feel Christians/other religions are treated?
How do China, Cuba and North Korea still survive, with a lower crime rate than anywhere in the world? How did the Soviet Union and the French Republic survive without an official religion? (Communist nations even prohibit religion) There are underground religious organizations in all of those nations. Doesn't mean anything, just stating that religion was there. And as for lower crime rates, I think the fear that the government can kill you and think nothing of it would be a slight deterrent to crime.

The "sience"
Personally, a hole in the space/time continuum is hard enough for me to comprehend :P.

State of the Union....
I must say that Danger has a point. Even if he stumbles a bit, the world gets the point. His charisma outweighs his public speaking ability.

The "sience"
You lose, since in the very first post he explains the spelling. Posting without reading first post = the lose.

The "sience"
I've taken astronomy and geography for sciences at Uni. I love the physical sciences, try to stay away from organic sciences (they are HARD). Love learning what makes the world tick.

How do YOU feel Christians/other religions are treated?
Don't worry, it isn't. I didn't mean to say that science=atheism. I am just protesting moderator action. Tripsis locked the Evolution thread because "zealots" (in his own words) were taking the topic off track. Now that atheists (not synominous with science) are taking this thread off track, nothing is being done. Elaborate? In the evolution thread, I never stated that evolution existed. I merely stated that I don't believe in "man from monkey" and tried to use some religious examples to back up scientific ones. I was willing to carry on a civil discussion about evolution. No, the topic is how we feel religions are being treated. But people like Tigra are bringing in the "Does God Exist" crap which inevitably (and has) turns into a flame war. It would be nice, but I strongly doubt it is going to happen. I would love to discuss religion and science and everything else without censure. But some people on these forums can not handle that freedom. Tell that to some other people in this thread, on both sides.

How do YOU feel Christians/other religions are treated?
If the topic on Evolution was locked because all of the "religious zealots" came in and drove it off course, why shouldn't a religious topic stay open when atheists come in and turn it into a flame war? I love the double standard in the OT. The mods only enforce their own rules when it deals with their own views. If there is any justice left here, this topic will be locked or cleaned. This is why the ban should be reinstated. We can't have a discussion on evolution without religion being brought into it. We can't have a discussion on religion without atheism being brought into it. The forum just isn't mature enough for these types of discussions!

How do YOU feel Christians/other religions are treated?
I think globally, there is a very real prejudice against religion. On the internet, it's like a jihad against us. Sometimes. This forum is actually pretty good.

I'm at Texas Tech. We have one of the best teacher-training schools in the nation. And...err..Playboy's Hottest Girls on Campus 5 years in a row.

Spanking children, is it wrong?
WHY does everyone seem to think that? No parent does that. If they do, then they're idiots. It's more like "Go to your room, no reading, no game boy, NO NOTHING". That argument is getting old and not true. Then the kid is playing Game Boy with his finger on the "off button" listening carefully for his parents.

Spanking children, is it wrong?
I'm not sure what a switch is.. I know I got the belt when I was younger :ohnoes: A switch is a really strong and thin branch from a small tree. Parents scored double punishment from them, because they would send the child out to the tree to pick the switch. My dad got it that way on the farm. I'm lucky he used a paddle on me. The sheer intimidation factor was enough to keep me in line.

Spanking children, is it wrong?
I think spanking in a disciplinary way is appropriate. These days, a time out is simply not effective. A good swift smack to the rump is something else. I only look for two things: -Never spank out of anger. EVER. Put off discipline until you calm down. Immediately comfort the child after the discipline and let them know you still love them. -Never strike a child anywhere but the rump. Make sure the child knows the discipline is for discipline's sake, and not just a random happenstance. Guys, when I was a kid, my great grandmother and grandparents switched me. If you guys whine about spanking, I'd rather take a paddle (and oh, I've gotten it too!) over a switch. Those things HURT.

Global Warming
That 5% part isn't true. The average household releases a couple hundred TONS of carbon dioxide every year. Multiply that by several billion, and you have yourself much more than 5%. The average household has enough foliage, vegetation, and grass to absorb most of the CO2 and convert it to oxygen. There are billions of trees, trillions of blades of grass and countless other plantlife that convert the CO2 to O2. And your math doesn't even make SENSE.

State of the Union....
I'm actually curious about something. Where did the stereotype that Republicans hate people of African descent come from? I've heard this all the time, and see it on shows like Chapelle's show and Mind of Mencia. Apparently, just voting Republican makes me racist? Heck, before Clinton the only non-racist Democrat President was Kennedy. John Davis was a Democrat, too. Fun coincidence. Sorry for getting off track, but it bothers me. I especially dislike how any black man who runs for President on the Republican ticket is branded a "traitor" by the NAACP.

A lazybeam that is Non Lethal.
Yeah, Bush is to blame for everything. Especially for technology developed under Clinton's administration (and I must say that Clinton had nothing to do with it). It's humane compared to bean bags and tear gas. Most certainably better than a repeat of Kent State.

A lazybeam that is Non Lethal.
haha...DEW...funny I WANT ONE  Good luck. Microwave ones cost about $800k and the light pulse DEW costs around 1.2 million each. Needless to say, these are just prototypes. Each has cheaper variants that are much much larger.

A lazybeam that is Non Lethal.
I don't have the official research on Directed Energy Weapons. I just know that they are in research, and that they were used in a book series I read (Microwave DEW's in Left Behind, and Light Pulse DEW's in Debt of Honor.)
-
A lazybeam that is Non Lethal.
You mean a DEW? They've had those for years. Concentrates microwaves on a person, which flash heats the water in their skin, which makes the burning sensation. Can disable a person for 15-30 seconds. Looks like a rifle. There's also a variant that fires a light pulse, which can knock a human out for several minutes.

It's in our blood! And it's God's country. Texas IS glorious :P

Global Warming
West Texas already started that. :P The only state that surpasses us in clean energy is Arizona, and we have more access to natural gas than any other state (Alaska doesn't count, because there are very few tapped out wells up there.)
