  2. articles on why the great depression happened, written by well known economists nathaniel branden and alan greenspan. im going to look for a link to it somewhere on the net, i read it out of one of my books. im not really adding anything to what they said, just summarizing it. ill edit if i find the articles. cool
  3. cool how did you get the job
  4. well now that i know you dont know basic economics, this makes things more difficult. people dont borrow from the government (well, in theway you said it). the government lowered interest rates which the banks and financial institutions all had to follow. take for example your local savings and loan. you can get a loan for a house or a car from there and get a certain interest rate on it. this interest rate was set by the government at way to low of rates, so everyone started to borrow from the loaners, and the interest rates were set so the loaners couldnt really do anything about it. when they started to call in the debt, no one had money to pay it back. and then the banks couldnt pay back their debt either, and then all hell broke lose. if the government wouldnt have set such a low interest rate, then not as many people could borrow money. only the people who need to borrow woudl borrow then, and they wouldnt go crazy investing it whereever they want. i knew that... I used borrowed money from the government to shorten all of that this was one of the major ways that the regulated the money, they lowered and increased the interest rates to control the amount of borrowing the government also sells and buys bonds in order to regulate the economy they also produce more money if the economy is suffering (but this is rarely used) and i think you were referring to an event after the stock market crash, where everyone was afraid that the economy would fail, so they tried to withdraw all their money from their bank accounts. the bank did not have enough money to pay them back, so all the banks failed. FDR fixed this by having the fireside chats with the public to encourage them to put their money back into banks. he also issued many laws that would prevent this from happening. bank reforms were one of his major reforms. but it was still the merchants fault for offering buying on margin, where they did not actually borrow the money but only paid part of the share of the stock, not the governments fault... btw what is your background in history. I dont want to be arguing against a historian or something
  5. you could work on the text a little more and you should try to add more details to make that bar blend in a little more nice sig

    sorry i cant see it
  7. i dont like the text hard to read you can work on the bg a little more though
  8. if you had read what i wrote, you would know i explained exactly that. the GOVERNMENT put its nose into buisness, creating artificially low interest rates, and everyone began to borrow when the economy couldnt support it. they invested all this money they borrowed into stocks, bonds, anything they could. once the loans needed to be repaid and the money didnt exist to repay them, the government raised interest rates extremely high to curb all borrowing, and te stock market crashed. if the government was never in it at all, then interest rates would have never been that low, and not everyone would have got extremely bad debt. the great depression would have never happened if the government hadnt intervened. im not sure that the government had low interest rates, even if they did most people did not borrow money from the government it was the merchants in the stock market that offered this "buying on margin," where you pay only a percentage of the stock. most people invested this way because they thought the stock was going to rise so they would be about to pay the rest later, but when investors lost confidence there was a huge crash. the government did not play a large role in the stock market or the economy until/during the great depression, where they made laws to prevent speculation and buying on margin, so that another crash would not occur. they also began to regulate the economy so people would not get into debt and would not loss faith in the banks. This is why I support FDR.
  9. No, that was Japan that got us into WWII. Any president would've declared war after something like that. FDR said that he was looking for an oppurtunity to get all the isolationist to support the war somehow, when he made an agreement with some british guy the japanese warned the us that they were going to attack and FDR told them to not attack the japanese until they were attacked first if he didn't tell them this, the US would have attacked the Japanese first and there would have been major opposition to the war by the isolationist and FDR did have intentions of getting the US into the war thats what i think
  10. hoover got us into the great depression. fdr kept us there. and who are you to judges how long the great depression should have happened? i dont think it should of happened at all, and it wouldnt have if the government at the time wasnt turning socialist, and was trying to completely control the economy by keeping an artificial economic boom. the government set interest rates irrationaly low, so everyone started to invest more and more, and then once some of the bills started to come in no one had any money. the government then raised the interest rates extremely high to stop borrowing, and that put many buisnesses out of buisness, and many people into bankruptcy. after doing that, fdr decides that since socialism got us into the great depression, lets blame it on capitalism and see how socialist we can go to get out of the great depression. so instead of letting the economy get better by itself, he decided he should control it. he then instituted many different laws including extremely high minimum wages onto american buisnesses, so that unskilled labor was earning much more than it should be. the buisnesses couldnt stay in buisness like this, so many failed and all the people were out of work. and instead of taking away all these stupid laws on buisnesses, he decides that he should worry about all the unemployed people who wont help at all in getting the country going again. so he creates social security. now all those unemployed people are getting paid for doing absolutly nothing, and all the money comes from taxing the people who are working. the people who are workign are already having trouble with increased prices in everything because buisness had to increase the prices to stay in buisness anymore, so the working people took the brunt of the assualt. now what did fdr do to get us out of the great depression? nothing. all he did was make it last longer, and made a lot of stupid laws that should have been previewed before put into effect, and should have been repealed once people saw what they did to ruin the country. instead people celebrated with fdr for "saving" us from the great depression. most of the laws werent "stupid" thats why they are still in effect today and he did technically save us from the great depression because he got us into ww2 which ended the depression how would you know that it would have ended if he did not become president. how do u know that economy was going to get better by itself.
  11. finally someone i agree with Reagan did nothing but put us into more poverty in the long run JFK is overrated he got to be president because of tv and he did not accomplish anything he promised (civil liberty, direct relief... etc.) FDR would be #1 for me ashington and lincoln are okay too
  12. nice i like the empty middle
  13. you've posted 3 times whining about how people dont rate and he explained to you so...
  14. u can let the public vote without telling who made which one so they dont just pick because of the name
  15. i dunno what it was supposed to be why would u wear a skirt over an apron and pants??? and why would you wear a skirt over an apron so i just colored it She's suppose to be wearin knickers, it was a requested sig from Lime_Mercury for a girl to be puttin on a skirt while cookin lobs with a guy walking in looking confused. He didn't like the style so decided to do his own terrible version of it, though he knew my style.. (still dun get what he meant, I can't draw in someone else's stlye otherwise it won't be a sig made by me, just an immitation of someone else's..) Well anyway Im shocked that everyones choosin to colour in my linework, what I was tryin to get at, Quer, is that people should work on different styles of shading, it's a good idea to have an awareness of depth and contrast in your sigs but the same style of shading only works on certain styles of drawings, mine for example I like to believe is much more cartoony so doesn't need as much depth (your shading almost goes to jet black, which is sometimes too much for cartoons). What Im gettin at is for more lifelike pixel art, listen to Quer.. but don't limit yourself to one style, sometimes it's more popular and original to experiment.. Just look at Godslayer, you don't see anyone else with work like his do ya.. thanks for explaining explore more possibilities... this was like the first time i tried to color but okay i try to not limit my work
  16. its only about 12 hours since you posted, im only doing this in my spare time you know. (no further arguements intended from any side) Alright bmagic the rays of light coming from the sun are the best thing in the sig, together with the water, nice job  However what it lacks is not some of those regular thingys.. (contrast etc.) what you miss is texture. Now bare in my mind that your doing a brushing so its different. I like the pants and shirt and everything on the characters. But its the kitchen cabinets that ruin it and the sky. You see they seem like rushed random brushing with some dodge and burn in it, you need to use some Hard small brushes on that and make some Oak wood on it with a nice looking texture. Ditch the clouds your going for a far greater light scene (the sun) go for a great sky to compliment the sun. i see you didnt use layers.. try to use them (dont look at me i dont use them.. i cant even figure out how they work), Wow thanks sorry for rushing but i didnt want this topic to die thanks for tips ill work on the texture and i did use layers to put texture on the cabinets and the wood
  17. i dunno what it was supposed to be why would u wear a skirt over an apron and pants??? and why would you wear a skirt over an apron so i just colored it
  18. can i get some comments on mine i want to learn how to get better
