The bible is very hard to understand due to its metaphors. If it was really that simple, everyone would know excatly God was talking about on every scripture. Yet there is many different intepretations (sp?). Seriously, The bible is made for everyone, but not just for "the dumb". The Bible is extremely complex, saying it's "only for the dumb" is simply ignorance. I agree with defender as well. It's a book of life and morals etc, not knowlege.
