[/hide] Personally I'm not a fan of these super-zooms, I hear they're handy for holidays when you can't carry all kinds of lenses but image quality suffers at the extremes - barrel and pincushion distortion. It all depends on your expectations though. If you don't mind changing lenses you may want to consider some fast primes, they tend to be good IQ for price and have wider apertures. Try the classified ads at the back of papers etc, that's where I picked up my SLR. ;) Actually, the telephoto is not the best choice for holidays and walkarounds, the best lens for that would be either a Tamron 17-50 F 2.8,or a 28-70mm F 2.8 (multiple brands, but for nikon and canon it's like 1500-2000 dollars),however, tamron has a 28-75 f 2.8 for about 500 dollars, and as i said, telephotos tend to really get slow at big focal length because of the maximum aperture,so if you don't mind spending around 1500-2000 dollars on a 70-200mm f 2.8 lens, get a 70-300mm which is something like f 4-5.6

Well i'd say that you shouldn't worry about the age of the lens since any lens is usable as long as it works properly, for example,i use the AF Nikkor 28-80mm 3.5-5.6D on my Nikon D300,and that lens is like 10 years old,if you're worrying about getting worse image quality then i have to tell you it's dependant on the Camera sensor more than the lens.

Eh,forget the 15-30mm 3.5/4.5,you won't get creative with it,you really would have limits, also,i wouldn't suggest the 28mm f 2.8,it all depends on what you want to use,if you want the best ultrawide lenses, then you could use a tokina 11-16mm (tho it's manual focus, and if you are on a budget, then get the 12-24,it's 400 dollars.),which is the best ultrawide lens for DX format DSLRs,and gives sharper images than high end lenses like the Nikkor 12-24 3.5/4.5 which costs something like 1200 dollars last time i checked, And surely the 28mm f 2.8 is nice, but it is nowhere compared to the 1.8 one,in the end,it's your call.

Thanks for the suggestion :) However, right now I do have a crop camera because I find myself shooting things from far away more often than landscapes. I'm not going to buy another camera for the few landscape shots that I take, I just don't take enough of them. You are right though - so thank you :) Well, you can use full frame for anything really, but it really pays off when shooting landscapes, any photographer would go with full frame over the 1.3x/1.5x/1.6x crop any day,and as i said, even a 60 dollar SLR can do the job,but it's your call, good luck in the future :

I love 4 and the first one non-sepia Just a tip mate, for landscapes,it's much better if you use a 35mm camera(full frame),because you get much more of what you shoot, and 35mm combined with a wide angle lens is just pure win If you can't afford buying a Digital Full frame camera,i suggest you get a film one,all film cameras are full frame, and trust me,you won't regret it.

Hey,nice works, just a question, where do you find those auroras? and have you ever used Nikon?because i'm thinking of either buying a Nikon D300 or a Canon 50D,i also have a Nikon F60(film SLR),which uses AF Nikkor lens, which means i can use it on the D300,so?

Today...
Well, today i had the usual job at a design company, plus flirting around with a coworker, lol. Also, today i attended the friendly match between Palestine and Chechnya, being Palestine the home team Chechnya scored her 2 goals in the first half,Palestine scored her 2 goals in the second half,so the match ended up a tie it was quite an experience to be for the first time on a real match not in tv,and trust me,it is more fun.
