You have heard like 3 or 4 songs I'm guessing? Btw, listen to some folk metal. You mean electric banjos? What the hell are you talking about? "The tin whistle and flute can be found in such Celtic metal bands" "Some bands are also known to highlight more exotic instruments from their ethnic background or country" Just a few excerpts from Wikipedia. And plus most doesn't talk anything about killing (In depth at least) So that's another plus for you. Also normally the vocalists dont really growl as much but a scratchy singing (I dont know how to describe it)

:lol: No they are not. Most of the bands now a days just do it for [bleep]ing shock value. And it actually is getting pathetic now that people are just trying to get grosser then all the other bands. 99% of the bands a not glorifying it. I read an interview with Necrophagist and they even said something like "We're just normal guys, its just shock value" And it doesn't matter what you think is worse, its that you think one is okay and the other is not when there really is not much of a difference in the obscene level. The lyrics are just super descriptive a lot of the time and people just freak out.

Because they are metal.
