Difference between Jews and Christians?
None of the Jews I know are actually 'Jewish' if you get my meaning. They're jewish by birth, and that's as far as it goes. As far as they're concerned, their jewishness is just an excuse to poke fun at themselves for a laugh. "Does anyone else here from England get evangelised(?)?" Dude, you ever been to oxford street? Constant evangelism there. Only problem is, it's bad, and makes me embarrased. Frankly, they're embarrasing to my religion. I don't blame them for trying, but surely their lack of results should reveal something? Yet just down the road is Hillsong. If you go to see We Will Rock You on a sunday, be surprised. An entire theatre full of youth (well, youth-ish) giving praise ot the Lord. Also one of the most succesful in England. I was there around a month ago, when the Senior Pastor from Oz was over. He commented on how the theatre was completely full, people were standing in the aisles. While someone like me would think that's a good thing (being an Anglican at heart), he said "You Brits don't have enough faith - you should have got a bigger theatre!". I just found that hilarious. It's that type of attitude that Christians in England should have. Instead, we get old people complaining that 1) there arn't enough youth in the church 2) that the youth are ruining the country. Stupid English.

General P2P argument: suicide bombings in the middle east
The following is essentially an arguemnt on the P2P forum that went a bit off topic. The original topic is here: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=258111&start=135 I haven't read the entirety, but the last pager interests me. The following is the last post of the time. Edit: Took out the quote. The BBcode links didn't copy, and the link the post is above anyway ;) Anyway, I want to continue the debate about it being considered good to kill youself (martyrdom) in the middle east. Surprisingly enough, it is. It is very difficult to understand because of our western culture. In Islam, if it is ever run by an islamic government, then it is and will always be Islamic soil. So they weren't pleased by the British creating Israel. As far as Islam is concerned, Israel is occupied territory. Islam (here we move more into the 'extremist' viewpoints. This interpretations are not followed by all. Indeed, even the above is not followed by all) also has a different viewpoint on israeli civillians. Very few of the Jews there were there originally. They are majority settlers. Every citizen (not sure about women) is also forced to do 2 years of military service, and after that service can still be called up on the whim of the government. As far as most in the middle east is concerned, every israeli is a soldier, and thus is fair game. Suicide bombings: As they're targeting 'civillians', they see it as a legitimate tactic. They figure that if someone charged in with a gun, they would kill a few before they were killed. This was they can cause much more destruction and still only lose one soldier. And now the mass support of the population. As many newspapers magazines (things like 'Sunday Telegraph Magazine') like to point out, this is supported by the majority. For as starters, the people are disgruntled that they're being forced out of their homes. The illegal deportation of 415 palestinians in 1992 is example enough. The fact that 3 UN resolutions did nothing to convince Israeli to let them back into palestine revealed a lot to the palestinians. Anti-Semitism is rife within Arabs, just as much as anti-arabs (don't think there's a fancy word for it) is rife within israeli. There's a great example in Light Force (by Brother Andrew, the bloke who smuggle Bible's into communist countries. The book talks about him supporting efforts to unify the Church in the middle east, both messianic Jews and Palestinain Christians) of a father putting on a funeral for his dead son. Instead of being sad, he (and all of the guests) are happy. The reason? He took Israeli's with him. Another contention is international support and end-of-the-world theory. Most end of the world scolars agree that there needs to be a temple in jerusalm in order for Jesus to come again. This means that there will need to be an Israel in order to build one. The US will support Israel for this reason: the Christians in America support israel, and neither the Republicans nor the Democrats can afford to lose their votes. While Israel has the support of the US, the situation is unlikely to change. Palestine has no international support. Bush may say alot about his 'road map', but he doesn't give $3 million (it might be billion. In fact, I think it is) a year to palestine. So yes, most popular support in the middle east is for the terrorists and suicide bombings. People may not admit it publicy, but it's true. Arguing that the majority of the middle easterners are peace-loving hippies who love Israel and the US simply holds no ground. Only problem is, I have the strangest feeling I'm going to get argued against. I know that some people here are from the UAE, and further afield. I doubt they're against Israel (well, they could be, I don't know). Chances are that the people able to access the internet are going to be part of a rich minority. The people doing the major supporting will be a lot poorer. That said, there was a topic here earlier which implied that the UAE banned any website to do with Israel. So maybe anti-Semitism is across all classes? By the way, is there a special word for 'anti-Islam'? Hatred of jews has 'anti-Semitism', so whats everything else's special word?

Difference between Jews and Christians?
I'm reserving this post to edit later and write a huge amount. There are loads of differences. I just hope there isn't a time limit on how long I've got edit this. I won't be back for about 5 hours! Just something about what Herr wrote: Jews believe that they are given a place in heaven by birthright - God chose them, not anyone else. So there is no point in 'Jewish evangelism' as God wouldn't accept them. Christian's on the other hand believe that Jesus died to save everyone, so everyone should be given the chance of salvation. Evangelism is one way of doing that. If Gehjl (if he still come here) could take over for a few hours till I get back, it would be most appreciated. Expect a looooooong post ;) Edit: Long post no longer needed, Insane has covered the basics. Oh, I was so looking forward to it as well ;)

Funny, Stupid, and pointless old laws
Similar to the one above, but my old (welsh) history teacher told me that it is legal to kill someone if a) they're welsh B) they're standing outside westminister cathedral c) you're 12 feet away from them d) you shoot them with a longbow e) they die from wounds inflicted by the longbow, but not on the torso. So if you hit them on the torso, it's illegal. I doubt it's true, but it sounds plausible. Everyone complains about government interferance, but back then the government interfered in everything, creating individual laws for stupid things. It often just created more loopholes than before. So much for legalistic ideals

GRR WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!!!!!
There's another thread here posting pretty much the exact same thing. Try re-downloading the runescape client, and make sure that your firewall isn't blocking RS at all. Also try re-installing Java
-
Need help with a java error that spontaniously closes RS
Either what Zonda says, or it might be that your firewall doesn't realise RS is using some ports, and so blocks them, which forces RS to crash? I'm not sure, but it seemed like that from all the '_thread_blocked' bits.

Firefox typing screwing up
I used to get this alot. Then it stopped, and then I downloaded the latest firefox. Not sure why it stopped beforehand. And I've never had a popup from RS.

Playstation 3 and Nintendo Revolution
Some people seem to misunderstand what 'raw data' and 'raw power' mean. When Sony say that the PS3 has 20 or so times the power of the PS2, they're fiddleing with the statistics. When in a 'full game mode', where everything, lighting, shade, physics etc as well as pixels, the PS2 could run, say 20,000 pixels. I have no idea of the actual figure, I'm just using an example. Rendering just the pixels, nothing else, the PS2 could run about 50,000 pixels. Sony is using the 20,000 statistics. Also, with the PS3, they're using statistics gathered from only pixels being rendered. Add lighting and stuff, suddenly that '20 times the PS2's power' will drop back down to 2 or 3 or 4 times. And it's not only Sony that fiddle with the stats. Micro$oft do it as well, and Ninty cook the 'amount of sale's books, buy using weird combinations and 'confidence interval tests' that sound clever but actually mean nothing. People need to start taking what every games company (be it Sony, Micro$oft, Nintendo, or even Jagex) says with a very large pinch of salt.

Movies that brought you to tears
Never actually cried during a movie. But I have cried afterwards, when I lie awake and think about them. Too much. I take things far too far in my imagination. LotR3? How were you able to cry? I spent the half 40 minutes desperately trying not piss my pants! I kept thinking 'it's got to finish soon', but no! There was always that extra line of useless dialogue! And I'm quite proud that I never cried during titanic. Actually, I fell asleep and missed the good bits. Never wanted to see it since.

Revelations: Did you watch it?
Nope. I intended to though, but I was out. I also indended to watch Cold Case, Nip/Tuck, the 4400, and Hex when they were out. I never did. Looks like another *semi* good drama I will never see. Plus I doubt the theology would be accurate ;)

The Dumbest thing you've ever had to do
As it's our last week of school (nearly out of here after 7 years!), we're doing really random things. Instead of my Stats lesson we played twister and ate cake. During lunch I wore a bunny suit, my friend wore a monkey suit. I had to run him over (very hard to see where you're going with a bunny head on) at slow speed, go out and help him, then he beat me up and stole my car. All on video of course ;) Tomorrow I turn up for 20 minutes, then drive to Krispy Kreme (or what ever it's called) to get doughnuts for my Ethics class. No learning, and i have exams in a month

Help with Dramatic Opera Music
Quite often when it gets hot, I put on my air conditioning (ie wind down my windows) and stick on classical fm. I look so cool 8) Either that or some random cheesy love songs. The Power of Love (from back to the future) is always a great song to drive to. Doesn't make you look gay at all

Playstation 3 and Nintendo Revolution
Amen! Besides, by Nintendo's own admission they're not finished with it. The controller, which Iwata says is the revolutionary bit hasn't been announced. All we know is that they're wireless. Anyway, who cares about raw power? Sure, games can look sweet, but the gameplay can be crap. Lets look at the original 'killer app' for the PS2 as an example. Gran Tourismo 3. Looked abso-bloody-tastic, but was boring to play. After 20 mins of staring at the screen, I turned off my PS2, turned my PSX back on, and had more fun playing GT2 in an hour than I did in the 12 I spent on GT3. The same with *all* the 3D GTA games, they just couldn't hold my interest as long as the original. My PS2 and games have long since been sold (I was majorly dissapointed with San Andreas), yet I still fire up GTA on my computer for a laugh. It's still fun! Which is more than I can say for the vast majority of PS2 games. Basically: graphics = absolutely nothing. If a game looks good but is dull to play, whats the point of it? By contrast, a game with awful graphics but decent gameplay can hook people in *cough* Tetris *cough*. All the updates of Tetris, trying to give it better graphics, failed. Need I say more? I would far rather see what Nintendo are going to do with their revolution (suposedly including new methods of controlling the games. Mind links anyone? ;)), than some computer chip that can provide raw power that will never be used to its fullest.

Guild wars Screnies! **WARNING 56k**
I'm usually wary of games that promise later 'X-packs', as they tend to be over priced based on the content. Take the Sims, each x-pack was around ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã20-̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã25 in England. Cheaper than a regular, game but you had to have already spent at least ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã35 on the regular sims, and the content inside one x-pack was not enough to warrant it's price tag. Maybe ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã10 max for the content inside. The same with Age of Mythology, I thought the Titan's was a complete rip. The campaign was crap and short, and the Titan's themselves sucked. I loved the new civilisation though, so it wasn't all bad. Still, I thought it was overpriced for what it was. Which is why I am hesitant about Guild Wars. Once an x-pack comes out, everyone online will upgrade to that, so you would have to spend the money to keep up. Not that I'm gonna buy it anyway. I have A2 exams in a month, and am free for around six days during the summer, having been booked completely by friends/family so far. Then I'm off to Belfast for uni, so I don't think I would spend enough time on it to warrant buying it.

Guild wars Screnies! **WARNING 56k**
I have no idea what you're talking about with the whole 'level 20 psycokiller/hippie' thing. Ah well. Screenies look good, I'm just not big on spending large amounts of money on a single game. Surely they should update it online? Preferably without the $20 - ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30 price tag? My PC should run it though. AMD64 2.6, the 64 means that it essentially creates two processors out of the one, so it's insanely fast. It beats pretty much all intels off the charts. The rest of the stuff I can't remember so well, but it was the best stuff you could get for a laptop when I bought it (4 months ago), so it's pretty high spec. I think the graphics card is already outdated though.

Dragon Pickaxe?
We don't have to give a dragon hachet to woodcutters. Woodcutting is far too easy as it is. Whereas miners have to move onto a new rock after each ore, woodcutters get multiple logs per tree. They don't need a dragon axe. Mind you, we don't need a dragon pickaxe either, but it would be nice.

MMORPG's - The drugs of today?
You lot haven't read "Everything Bad is Good for You", have you? It's a book that is doing the round in England at the moment, and apparently was successful in the US a month or so ago. In it the basic theory is that computer games, television etc (which most people believe are degrading society) are actually improving it. Using his examples, look at television. Before hand, in the so called 'golden-age of television' (mid 70s), shows have 1 plot, 2 or 3 main characters, and that's it. Now look at the Sopranos, 10+ characters, all with their own complex backgrounds, stories and plots, all interweaving. Desperate Housewives (only seen one episode), same amount of characters, varying and interelating plotlines. It's complex! Now, videogames. If they were just pure escapism, or mind-numbing entertainment, games would be getting easier. Not so. They're getting more challenging. You have to think about what you're doing. When you start a new game for the first time, you have to process alot of information very quickly. Next year I am going to Belfast to read History for my degree, and I blame this on a mix of Age of Empires 2 and Civ 3! If I hadn't played those games 4/5 years ago, I wouldn't have found history interesting. I wouldn't have done it at GCSE, and I wouldn't have carried it on to A-level (where it is my best subject). And I certainly wouldn't be planning to do it university! Without those two games inspiring me and teaching me (as the T2 supplement says, "Many a GCSE pass in History has been laid at its [Civ 3's] feet!") I wouldn't be anywhere near what I am today. Modern culture/games/tv/wahetever takes a lot of effort to understand! It improves your mind! It expands your ability to process information. I can use an example from my own life. Myself and my gamer friends at school have an uncanny ability to remember information very easily. In my philosophy class, if one person mentions one fact, my brain goes into overdrive and recalls information that is entirely related to the subject at hand. No one else in my class can do this, and no one else plays (or played) games as regularly as I do (or did). Essentially, games have expanded my ability to process information, which will provide me with many advantages in later life. Sure, I read a lot, and that gives me a vivid imagination. So, with both reading and games under my belt, I should be able to tackle pretty much any career! It increases your brains ability to process information
