Seriously, if you're a beginner don't use c4ds. You can if you want, but its gonna be a lot harder, brushes for starting are great to learn with.

It's not a question of how I did in GIMP. Gimp is a fine image software, If I had the choice now between Gimp and Ps, I'd choose Gimp. Its smudging with some c4ds.

Lol, I believe I've improved today. Thanks to you I finally got back on devart, and looking at work there inspired me to do bigger pieces, and stuff.

Is it just me or does that render have a white background? Not transparent?

You've done it again, this is the same background type absolutely flat, except that you lowered the renders opacity, thats a big no-no.
